Bruno announced as new Manchester United captain

The right and only choice.

It was farcical for him to have to hand over the armband to Maguire when he came lumbering on to the pitch.

The right choice. The only choice. The others (Varane, Case, Martinez) are/can and need to be leaders as well but don’t need to wear the armband.

True. When Vidic was the captain, Rio, Scholes, Rooney were probably the better players (that command respect) as well.

Honestly, he was the only choice.

I hope my boy Rashford is the vice captain. I think Casemiro and Varane are fantastic players, and Licha’s mentality is infectious but they have been here for around 2 minutes.

My preferred order would be:

Bruno (c)
Rashford (vc)
Varane
Casemiro
Lisandro/Shaw

Good to have some many options. We spent a good few years scratching around without one decent option.

Right call on giving it to Fernandes.

Correct decision.

We all know that he is engine in this team. Love or hate his behaviour but correct decision.

Was not my first choice, would have preferred Casemiro, but Bruno is still a decent choice.

Not a fan of his petulance though, and how he lost his head on several occasions when we got battered last season.

I think if Rashford continues his amazing streak this season, he should be VC next 24/25 season, aiming as captain when Bruno is gone or phasing out in probably in the next 3-4 years.

Scoring goals dont automaticly make you captain material. Lisandro a much better vice captain with his warrior attitude and more vocal.

Meh. I don't think it matters in the ways we fans think it does.
I also don't like Bruno's whinging (and diving, for that matter),
and the fact that he cried to the ref all the fecking time when we lost 0-7 at Anflied looked really really bad...

But a captain's real job surely has to do with everything leading up to the 90 mins we eventually witness once or twice a week.

He's most probably the one to arrive first to training, giving you shit if you don't train hard enough,
help new a/o young players settle in, make peace between players or groups of players who don't get along...

so Yeah, on the games themselves, we see the ref either 'intimidated' by our captain or sick of him when he complains to his ear.
and that's what we associate with captaincy, but it's just a fraction of it.

By all accounts, Bruno seems to fit lots of criteria for the behind-the-scenes work, and hence it's a good choice.

Lead by example is another type of leader. But I don't mind with Martinez also.

Unfortunately, he is no captain. It shows that presence is lacking in the squad when Fernandes has been selected.

By the way, is there a reason why Fernandes is always referred to on this forum by his first name?

Good for him. He’s basically been the captain for over a year now.

Remember this time last year when people thought Ten Hag would drop him and play the likes of Van de Beek instead? That was funny even then.

Makes sense given he was essentially the captain last season and so to give it somebody else might have been a blow to him, almost like it had been taken away from him.

We had some great candidates, my pick might have been Martinez or Casemiro but I guess these players haven't been at the club all that long, and that might be something else that played into the decision.

Bruno is a motivated, hard working, vocal, demanding player, when he first came he dragged the team by the scruff of its neck up a level or two. Hope it's the start of a successful era for us.

Congratulations Bruno. He has a winning mentality which has been lacking in recent captains.

There were people suggesting Bruno wasn't in ten Hag's future plans two months ago.

His most important attribute is the fact he wants to win badly.

"There can only be one gobshite in the team, Harry" - Bruno, probably
Looking forward to him flailing his arms around when Rashford gets fouled in CL final.

Still makes me wonder why other clubs weren't in for him when we were buying him that year from Sporting. We literally had a free run at him. Utterly brilliant player and leader of the team. He's now a mega superstar playing in the red of United, and probably the next Portugal captain too after Ronaldo retires

Great choice.

So now is Sancho still going to tell him to quit moaning?

I'm sure they are thinking EtH is wrong and he doesn't know what he wants.

He had a low pass success rate if my memory serves me right. Definitely the best purchase since RVP imo.

Ah the good times.

Really thought Liverpool were going to steal him.
He played in a friendly versus Liverpool before we bought him and I think he was MOTM or at least he put in a very good showing.

Shanco does seem a bit of a twat isn't he? what twist my nickers with him is not being willing enough to do the hard yard in or out of possession, then still has the nerves to mumble rubbish out of his mouth when being corrected by someone like Bruno who seems willing to do anything to win a football matches at our club.

There’s never been a better man for the job. He's always been the captain. Fact he rattles rival fans, is beautiful. Capitao Magnifico

Absolutely the right decision. He was basically the captain all of last season so he was the natural choice. I’m just glad we have other leaders in the squad now who can help out with the leadership and mentality in the dressing room.

This is great to hear. Perhaps when Maguire was captain, there were certain things that Bruno felt that he couldn't do (and which he would have done better) as he might have thought he'd be stepping on Maguire's toes but now officially being given the armband, the full captain Bruno will be unleashed.

It definitely is. Remember when Maguire got it because he was the only option that wasn’t a dickhead or launching a brand. We’ve come a long way since then.

I usually dont agree much with Rory Jennings, but he is spot on about Bruno here.

"A good team is always covering areas as leaders, team players, multi-functional players, specialists, individualists.

"But you need some leaders in the team, on the pitch, who are guiding the team, who are building the team, who are controlling the quality of the performance.

"And one has to wear the [arm]band and we chose, I chose, Bruno because he is a great inspiration. He is the example.

"He always wants to be a better football player, working very hard to give his maximum performance. So he is the mirror for many players and he is a good social connector.

"He is also very good at game understanding. So, for a manager, it's very good to have that intermediary on the pitch. So those are some reasons, but he can't do it alone.

"We need more help. We need more leaders to have a strong bond and who can point a team in the right direction."

"We respect Harry.

"Harry's very important for this squad, for this team. And, you know, in his role as centre-back, we have four centre-backs. I talked about consistency and we know we can't do it with 11 players and so I'm happy we have four very good centre-backs.

"And we will need them, and he has to fight for his place, as he did last year. He has a high potential so I'm sure he will do it, he will fight for his place and then it's up to him."

“Obviously, it's such a beautiful moment for me and to share it with my family.

“It's not something that you dream about, because that’s above your dream. It's something that makes you feel proud of everything that we've been doing.

“It's a big responsibility, but it's already a big responsibility to be part of this club. So we know that, for me, it will be the same. I won't change.

“I will keep the same standards and just try to give my best as captain, as I was doing when I wasn't.”

“It [lifting the Carabao Cup together with Maguire] was a great moment and I have to be thankful to Harry because he was the club captain and he didn't have to do that.

“Sharing with me that moment is something that I'm really pleased about and, obviously, it's something that you want to do more often and not just being as a captain, but as a Man United player.

“You know that you're playing for big, big achievements, big trophies and you want to do it more often.

“We will keep improving and giving our best to, every time, having that chance.”

“We will keep trying our best to set the highest standard that this club deserves and as these fans deserve," he asserted.

“We will keep giving our best to be in the best position to win trophies. We will give everything that we can to make them be happy, to make them enjoy our football.

“And, obviously, we’re trying, at the end of the season, to give them even more joy than last season.”

Wonder if Harry Maguire is going to post a public statement congratulating Bruno
