Bring back Rooney

To be honest I'm not really surprised we are a bit all over the shop, kind of reflects the team. Plus you guys have certainly been there in your forums....especially when Roy was in charge!!

Oh don't get me started... Liverpool forums have been really messy over the years...

Guess I'm kinda used to it now... probably why I think you're all overreacting. Because I've seen much worse.

Do we not win a bit more when Rooney plays? Has the hatred for Rooney gone so deep that people would rather see us lose than him play?

Not sure, but he had a pretty ok game against Fernerbache. Trouble is, I'm not sure what combination of players is any good right now, they all seem to be blowing hot and cold, game to game.

Remember the good old days when Rooney played and we used to win matches? And the only thing we needed to do to dominate the world of football was to drop him. What happened to that plan?

He might not be perfect but at least he shows some passion and leadership. Bring Wayne back!!!!
As well as been pretty useless on the ball, when has WR actually displayed the bits in bold recently? Honestly? His leadership on the pitch is non-existent. You need to do more than wear the armband and I don't feel WR does enough as captain.
Putting WR back in the starting 11 will do nothing to change the fortunes of this side other than give the media and fans another avenue to complain.

Our attack flowed much better with Rooney against Fenerbache at number 9 than it has all season with Ibra. Remember three of the fours goals against Leicester were corners which is kind of a freak occurrence. anyway. I thought Rooney transitioned attacking plays quite quickly in his last outing.

Yeah, that was definitely our best attacking performance of the season. At least it was after we scored our first couple of pens anyway. Impossible to know how much of that was just down to Fener being really really bad, though.

The reason it hasn't worked out is because we still lack pace in forward positions. It's been said since about 2013.

Mkhitaryan-Mata-Martial
----------Rashford-------

------------Carrick---------
-------Herrera--Pogba-----
Mkhitaryan----------Lingard
------------Martial----------

Underneath all the forlap tugging in the Ibra transfer thread was a worry that he'd slow us down. There were plenty of posters concerned about adding yet another aging, slow body to a squad brimming with them, but we assumed Jose would be able to make it work. It's concerning that we still look toothless going forward, and the solution may well be to drop him until he at least starts scoring the chances that do fall his way.

We've only just managed to get Rooney out of the flippin' first team! He's been shite for at least four years and putting him back in is madness. Martial or Rashford need to start up top.

I come on here and see a thread titled "Giggs was the answer" and the second I see is "Bring back Rooney"

The standard can only get better from here.

Bring back Ferguson. He actually might still be able to do his job unlike Wayne.

We're kinda sucky domestically so play him. It's not like the team is just too invincible that no room for him anyway. Just be sure to put him in the holding. Whenever he plays up front or in the wing, he starts passing out the ball like he's Pirlo.

Bring back the bald and angry Wayne. The pissed of kid that could get a red card and some amazing goals

Is this thread serious or just a tongue firmly in cheek?

Rooney the saviour :wenger:

Even if Rooney scores 5 goals vs City and 5 golas vs Burnley, he won't be a solution to our problems and won't help us finish in the top 4. Get rid of him and sign a top striker approaching his prime, Auba or Griezmann.

Well I did try to tell you all ........................

We put up with 3 years of nothing, Rooney manages to put in one half decent performance where he doesn't look like a competition winner (still doesn't score but at least manages to 'kind of' assist a goal) and apparently he is the saviour again

I think as with most of these arguments the truth lies between the two extremes. Rooney doesn't make it into our best XI anymore but he has shown recently that he could still have his uses if properly rested and used correctly

Just saying that we seem to win more when Rooney plays. I'm starting to get the impression that isn't what everyone here wants.

Yup, people don't want the team they support to win matches as long as someone they've never met, never spoken to and don't even know personally stays out of the team.

Or

You're talking shit.

I agree with you about the two extremes, and don't know if yesterday was just a one off or not, but he deserves a lot more credit yesterday than you are willing to give him. I suppose that's what some of us find frustrating. He played extremely well yesterday, for 90+ minutes, watching the replay every score and almost every threat went through him one way or the other. His goal near the end was an excellent bit of individual effort, and SHOULD have counted as the offside call was bogus. He also had another assist in the bag on the shot Mata barely missed. Yes, he had his share of poor touches also, but for the most part scored a 7-8 on scale to me. Will that continue? I surely hope so.

Yes, there absolutely no strong anti-Rooney feeling in the numerous anti-Rooney threads we've had in here all season. No one wants him to 'feck off to China', praises Mourinho for dropping him, claims that any goal/assist he gets is just luck, that any win is despite him etc etc

Talk about missing the point completely and going off on a tangent.

No one said he's not been criticised on the forum. The point is about the part in bold.

Without explaining much, ask yourself if people here had 2 options- Rooney plays every game from now till the end of season and United win the title or Rooney fecks off to China and we win nothing. Do you think there's even 1 person here who'd pick option 2? That should tell you who's talking shit here.

Rooney needs to be kept challenged. As soon as he feels comfortable and untouchable he will be back to his same old shite.

He deserves to start the next game (and will anyway coz of ibras ban) but if he doesn't atleast play well he will be back on the bench.

JUST LIKE ANY PLAYER SHOULD.

If he scores or assists against Arsenal then I'm sure anybody will be happy for him to continue. The thing that was pleasing was his performance was actually good too, not just chipping in.

Have to admit that the deserves his place in the team for the Arsenal game, with Martial out of form and Ibra suspended.

However the likelihood of a good performance against a top team has to be low.

It does however demonstrate the lack of quality/form we have, that a Rooney long past his peak is still in and around the starting positions.

Rooney and Carrick are still useful players and the experience they have is very important. I hope that Mourinho can find a way to use them correctly, so that the whole team benefits.

We were crap with him in the team, and were crap without him, so bringing him back won't make a blind bit of difference, maybe buying some good wingers, and trusting Martial/Rashford as our main strikers would though..

All this 'reinventing himself', or 'coming back stronger' is just annoying, he has done his bit, and it's enough now.

How does this team selection thing work. One OK game and you're back in. Next week you have a bad one and you're out again?

You can't alter the XI on a game by game basis.

If somebody has been poor for two years it should take more than one OK game to get back in.

It should but what other options do we have? Jose is not going to play Rashford and Martial up front together? Especially as he seems to want to have Rashford as an extra left back.

Well I think one of the two you've mentioned is the option but I agree Rooney will play.

I just disagree with those who think it's on merit.
