Obviously not going to happen but would he be that bad an option?

Purely as a backup striker, I would like to see him back. Van Gaal rocket up his backside & he might have a Henrik Larsson effect of playing sporadically but bringing something different to the squad.

I know he's past it but he would be better than any of our current backup strikers.

If not him, can anyone think of any other short-term cover for striker? Llorente would have been a great option for a year at least & I'm sure he'll have a great year at Sevilla this season.

I actually wouldn't mind that at all! But the problem is if LVG will deem him "hard working" or not. Don't know how much pressing he's going to do and just how much defending he can actually pull off. He's a really good option, nonetheless. Won't cost much and Berba knows the league and more importantly he was our player.

I would lose it if that happened. Suddenly Mata would have competition in the man-love sweepstakes. It'll never happen, but one can still fantasize!

I'd like to see it happen just to witness that glorious first touch of his again.

I don't think any person in the world could ever tag him as "hard working" & keep a straight face! He'd hold the line & provide quality link up play though which might be LVG's cup of tea for a striker. No point speculating in his views & desires I guess. The dude's on another plant

True that. But, you'd just know that LVG would bluntly put it to Berba when he isn't running as much as he should. He would take offence. A bad relationship develops. He sits on the bench. Comes on for cameos and does feck all. You just know this will happen, or at least something similar.

Lol no, and I say this as a fan.
He was fine till about mid-2014 but declined quite quickly last season.

What we need is not a static #9 but someone who makes runs in behind (Pedro :( ). With that said if Rooney's touch goes back to its worst, we might need someone like Berba as a backup - he would suit LvG's vision as a 9.

He wasn't good enough for us in his prime let alone now

honestly if the caf had the control of the club for just five years, i could see us in league 1 eventually...first pato, now a free agent and aged berbatov

we are manchester united, one of the biggest clubs in the world, we should have standards...id rather have tevez back if we were that desperate

What so replace the current crap back up striker with another ex crap back up striker? No thanks, and no berbatov was not a crap player he was just mostly crap for us.

Van Gaal wants pace up front which is the one word you'd never describe Berbatov with.

Get Teddy Sheringham back while we're at it.

We may as well make all of our scouts redundant, if they cannot find a better alternative than Berbatov.

While we're on it, bring back Owen! Two birds with one stone:
He'll maybe score a few (ok, nah he wouldn't) but more important: It would stop him being a commentator.
