Brentan Rodgers

Yeah I was reading that article the other day. It was actually interesting enough reading but he had to go and ruin it with all the cringe again :(
Exactly. But the only problem is that he does appear to be a very good manager, which is quite frustrating.

This thread is always good entertainment, not sure if it's a credit to Rodgers that he's close to reaching 100 pages on a mainly United fans forum.

The 1st page is hilarious looking back, the first post is basically the complete opposite to the rest of the thread since he joined Liverpool.

"I like Rodgers, seems a clever guy when I've seen him interviewed, talks a lot of sense, and seems to have some good ideas on how the game should be played."

The first post in this thread was stunning in its accuracy, in calling him as a future top 4/5/6 manager, especially considering he bettered that last season.

Where it fell down was when it said about him talking sense in interviews. Was he always this much of a bullshit artist? I really don't remember him talking as much shit back then as he does now.

Still a good manager though, and sets teams out to play well

I know he did. Still doesn't make it any less funny.

By the way, when Rodgers was doing well with Swansea in the first few months of the season, I too was caught up in the hysteria. However, like the Neviller has alluded to, we saw through the bullshit pretty quickly thereafter.

It's the same as with Moyes, either we didn't recognize his comments due to lesser interest in him as a person or the delusions of grandeur came with the significantly bigger club and him feeling special because of it.
Or we all are just unobjective and hate Liverpool.

Erm, Moyes is staunchly self-deprecating in his interviews; not much of an ego with him at all.

If, and it rarely happened, he did come out with Billy Big Bollocks talk, it was in an attempt to foist his authority upon the squad. Sadly, our lot gave up on him pretty quickly and our season never really recovered thereafter.

At the time those comments were perfectly valid. He DID have Swansea playing well (he still has Liverpool playing good football, as much as I despise them, it's true). And he did appear to know what he was talking about when he spoke about football.

I definitely don't recall as much bullshit from him back then, apart from that Sunderland nonsense.

And, to be fair, I didn't really hide how quickly my opinion changed either.

Won't deny it. I'm the thread starter who said he liked him, now I think he's a cnut and hope his time at Anfield is an abject failure.

 He does seem to like to play football the right way, so my opinion on that hasn't changed, but he's now Liverpool manager. I have no desire to see Liverpool play nice football or be successful, so I now hope he fails in everything he tries to do, until he gets sacked for not being fat, Spanish or a waiter.

The day he joined Liverpool.

He's come across very arrogant at United IMO.

On knocking out Olympiakos: "I've got us to the quarter-final and now the aim is to get to the semi-final."

On his next job:"I got my first real taste of Champions League this year and I thought I showed I can manage at that level. I would like to think I proved myself over the 11-year period at Everton and what I am capable of, and the level at which I want to manage."

On Martinez success at Everton: "I always told them they could play without a manager because they are very well organised."

On being fecking shit the whole season at United: "I actually think if Sir Alex was here this year it would be difficult for Sir Alex as well, and I'm sure he'd be aware of it. I think people are aware there's a squad that is a bit more aging, so I think it would have been a tough season for probably whoever was in charge of Manchester United this year."

He's come across very arrogant to me last season. As I've said, he pretty much blamed everything on players and genuinely considered himself a success. That was my main gripe with him and why I couldn't get myself to support him.
I guess it's a matter of opinion though.

Sorry for alerting, Sarni.

Bringing Sarni into this debate is like asking Alistair to join a Thatcher discussion.
His post is just one that I completely agree with and which, I think, shows the opposite of what you said. But like I said, matter of opinion.

This idea of not supporting Moyes because he was "too arrogant" is ridiculous. He's a self-deprecating man who felt he had the need to defend himself as he was getting shit from all angles pretty much all season. I'd have done the exact same myself - there's nothing wrong with it.

Also, the people who abhor Moyes' "arrogance" are probably the same folk who are lauding van Gaal's confidence right now. And, yes, before someone suggests it, I'm fully aware that van Gaal has won far more than Moyes in his career and maybe has a right to be cocky.

Well, nobody said that was the reason he lost support, the main reason was the abysmal football on the pitch. And you're completely right with your last sentence, it's a difference whether David Moyes praises himself for beating Olympiakos or Van Gaal being arrogant beforehand due to his proven methods and success with it.
Wrong thread for it though.

He's an unbelievably weird, self-loving, self-delusional worm of a man. The kind of man that hangs a portrait of himself in his own house. Oh wait..

The feck has Moyes got to do with any of this? He said some stuff that rubbed some people up the wrong way at the time and looks a little ill-judged in hindsight. Just like all managers, then.

Rodgers self-helpy middle management speak is what makes him a uniquely irritating speaker. Don't see the comparison with Moyes at all.

The comparison was that they're both british managers who not long ago managed a smaller club and then managed to step up to a bigger club. The reason for the comparison were the now rather funny comments about Rodgers, back when he was still managing Swansea. Obviously Moyes is far from being deluded, arrogant and all the other things that qualify for being a Liverpool manager, compared to Rodgers. Just saw them as two similar cases and wondered wether Rodgers was always the same or developed this attidude in the last 2 years, because, although Moyes isn't as extreme as Rodgers, his mindset may have changed a little since his United stint.

Precisely.

Who the feck brought up Moyes?

Listening to Kenwright on Sky now. He and Rodgers, so much bullshit in one city...

And unlike LVG with his English only policy, you can just imagine Brenton soliciting his players to speak Spanish, against their will in some cases.

ROGERS: Lucas, Philippe, hasta luego!

Countinho and Lucas: uh gaffer, there's something we need to discuss...

ROGERS: silencio cabrons!

"After the final match of the season against Newcastle at Anfield, Rodgers walked back to his office with his family. He was asked when he had known the title had gone. Was it Steven Gerrards slip against Chelsea? 'No, no' he said. 'I knew when Jordan got sent off against Manchester City. I knew i couldn't replace him."

That's massive praise for the lad.

Looks more like a deflection away from Gerrard to me.

Ah, so it wasn't slippy G, it was Magic Jordan's absence, of course.

Nice damage control, to be expected though.

It's a good line but it's bollocks.

Your side was absolutely buzzing after the City win. "We can't let this slip now" and all that.

I doubt your manager was thinking that day, "the title is gone". If he was he is a massive idiot.

Please tell me you're not buying that?

Pretty much. His way of praising Henderson and protecting Gerrard at the same time, but everyone knows he's not been truthful.

Well of course it's bollocks. They didn't lose the title against Man City, a game they fecking won, they lost it against Chelsea, Stevie G with the vital assist.
