Brentan Rodgers

You're not telling me a genius like Brenton can't revamp his team/system to cover the absence of one player?

He didn't as it happens, but there we are.

Can we google what he did say after the City game - obv something like. ''Crikey we're in the shit now and no mistake, but this is no time to try and find a solution''

I think it was also a way of giving zero credit to Chelsea - who basically blew them out of the water.

He's such an insufferable wanker. You can tell he thinks of himself as some sort of genius, and actually buys into his own hype.

"After the final match of the season against Newcastle at Anfield, Rodgers walked back to his office with his family. He was asked when he had known the title had gone. Was it Steven Gerrards slip against Chelsea? 'No, no' he said. 'I knew when Jordan got sent off against Manchester City. I knew i couldn't replace him."

That's massive praise for the lad.

Hang on, he actually, genuinely said this? What a tool. Not only is it a massive kick in the teeth for Allen and Lucas, it's clearly a load of bollocks to help poor Stevie to stop having nightmares about Demba Ba.

He's basically admitting that he couldn't manage without one fecking player. An easily replaceable one at that. It's not like Gerrard or Suarez got sent off, it was Jordan fecking Henderson. Well, that or he's just spouting more bullshit. Clearly Henderson was key to playing with 'initiative', causing the defeat against Chelsea.

He's a good manager, no doubt. RAWK lap up his tripe, because they speak the same shite. He's perfect for them.

He has them eating out of the palm of his hand....And he knows it!!

Think he gives a shit about that lot? No he doesn't! He knows a soundbite here and there will keep them happy.

And I haven't commented on it until now but, the whole wreath thing at ground zero was low. Very low! My Aunt has lived in New York City since the 60's and she witnessed that day. i thought it was low. But, as I said, Brenton will be out of there so fast when a bigger club comes along.

The scousers will feed of the bullshit he brings....Ex Swansea manager giving an ex Barca, Munich and Ajax manager advice? Jog on!!

His comments toward Van Gaal made me dislike him even more. Just another BPL manager who tries to make the league sound better than it actually is.

What has he ever won in his career? Van Gaal could write a book about what Brendan Rodgers doesn't know. I give it till Christmas when all the LFC fans are shouting RODGERS OUT and he's exposed as a midtable manager who was made look better by a world class player. Just like AVB was.

I think his comments were ill advised. Pre season isn't the time for managers to shoot their mouths off.

Thing is though, a Liverpool manager has to appear this deluded otherwise the fans will turn on him.

I thought Lucas or Allen was adequate backup options to shutup shop. Being a top class manager and all that I do find that quote a bit harmful if I am being honest.

Aye that's massive praise alright.

"Well done Jordan, la, you got yourself sent off and it fecked up our title hopes."

You'll need a strong stomach to watch much of this.

2nd question : When will the USA win the World Cup? The Brent-man struggles initially with what he can/cannot say, then remembers where he is and grovels magnificently.

Championship Play off. :p

He reminds me of a charlatan, but a good one. Can't stand his self-indulgent nonsense.

Those teeth, he looks like a fecking batman villain.

"I think it would be great if the winners of the MLS got a chance in the EPL, are you with me?"

I know she's only a little girl asking but still it made me chuckle. I swear though, if it was England and kids were asked to present questions to a manager of a huge club like Liverpool (or a similarly sized US sports club) they'd ask more sensible questions.

I'm confused, if anything last season showed they couldn't handle the pressure of a title challenge.

Players bottling it, tactical nativity from the manager, counting their chickens before they were hatched, loading the players with unneeded pressure- all showing they couldn't handle a title challenge.

Where they needed calm, they went completely spastastic instead.

In the City game they led 2-0, only to throw that away, but they eventually won. Stevie had his Kevin Keegan moment vs City, against Norwich, they were just hanging on from memory. Vs Chelsea, they let it slip, and Brendan was naive. They threw away a three goal lead at Palace, so he's been on the piss if he thinks they handled the title run in well.

Let us never forget when Pool fans complain about referees that Martin Skrtel conceded at least 3 penalties in that match that were not given, along with Sakho's.

He fecking punched the ball away in the last minute. Punched it! It was absolutely crazy refereeing.

That game vs City was just two days before the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster. At the risk of sounding insensitive, the ref didn't want to penalise Liverpool on their big day. clattenburg bottled it that day.

"His [Raheem Sterling] development has gone to a new level. He's way above the level from when he first came in both tactically and technically. And what has been beautiful to watch with Raheem has been his maturity. He's turning into a beautiful young man"
If I was Raheem I'd make sure all my windows at home had blinds.

Really good point there. That's how football works. Spot on.

I think he's a solid manager who can play attractive football. Don't think he's a Winner though. He gives of an aura of that undeserved smugness, the kind of mentality of somebody thinking they've made it, when really they just got promoted at Lidl.

I think Rodgers is a nice, engaging man, with a good attitude towards the game. Yes, there are times when he's talking about Liverpool when he's insufferable but lets be honest, its his job to defend/promote his team/players. I do think he gets a rough ride on here and with Man Utd fans in general (understandable) but I think his usually measured, considered, confident responses to interviews are ofter mistaken for smugness.

Come to think of it, I probably should have posted this in the unpopular opinions thread.

An overly wilful attempt to downplay the guy.

They lost a game against a Chelsea side that has defeated the likes of Barcelona and Bayern with their negative tactics and then had one major feck up and Palace trying to restore goal difference. I make that one individual error on Gerrard's part and one team error, before that they won 11 games in a row. They hardly bottled it that badly.

It's nowhere near as bad as when United fecked up and City went on to win at QPR.

Your analysis is way over the top. 37 points out if the last 42 available. Liverpool won 12 out of the last 14 games. By your analysis they should have won all 14 to prove they weren't bottlers.

Whatever the reasons for Liverpool missing out they'll be a lot stronger for it. The best thing to happen to United was 1992. It made the squad and manager more determined and better prepared than ever. With the correct mindset, failure is used as a learning tool not a reason to consider yourself not good enough.

Perhaps.

But last year won't be remembered as a glorious 2nd place by anyone other than Liverpool fans, everyone else will remember it as the year Liverpool blew the title.

Just the same as nobody looks at the Newcastle side of the 90s or the Liverpool side of when ever it was that you last finished 2nd as brilliant finishes.

They are both remembered for the two managers cracking up, and nothing else.

There it is, the comparison to early 90's United. It's the classic one that has continually popped up in Liverpool threads over the years to explain how a Liverpool team might go from not winning the league, to winning the league. Because United did just that 20 years ago.

Worth bearing mind that in 1992 United had a very contrasting summer to the one Liverpool are having now, where we signed our inspirational star player (Cantona), rather than selling him.
