Jesus Christ, he needs to stop it with his cringeworthy sports movie quotes.

It's actually off one of those office posters.

If he says 'If you wanna get into it, you've gotta get out of it', I will respect him a little.

wouldnt be surprised if his next quote is "i'm just genuinely surprised at the lack of quality ketamine going around" - brendan Rodgers 2014

"If it wasn't for the referee, and the defenders, and the goalkeeper and of course the ball itself, I reckon we would have taken all three points."

I was wondering, what's the biggest gap in two consecutive year for a single manager in the EPL history?

let's say Brendan's last season was 2nd, and this season he's 8th, so that's -6.

Anyone have any idea how to word that better for me to search?
Fergie's United 1987/1988/1989 ish went 11th, 2nd, 11th as I recall

"You can't break an egg without making some omelettes."

Howard Wilkinson as manager of Leeds finished 17th (out of 22) in the first season of the EPL (1992/3). The previous season they were champions.

I wonder did Rodgers try to give Gerrard's slip meaning by being philosophical about the whole thing and draw inspiration from Nolans Batman films.

"And why do we fall Steven? So that we can learn to pick ourselves up and go again".

You could really imagine him doing just that

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers said he was unaware of the 16th anniversary of captain Steven Gerrard's debut when he left him out against Stoke.

It was the first time Gerrard, 34, had not started a league match since New Year's Day, when he was injured.

"I wasn't aware it was 16 years until I walked into the dressing room and saw the programme," Rodgers explained after his side beat the Potters 1-0.

"I felt quite bad but he's a wonderful man. He thinks about the team."
Why has he that feeling???

16th anniversary?

It's that sort of shit that is so laughable about Gerrard. And Brenton for bringing it up.

I mean seriously, it's the day that a player made his debut for the club. I don't think anyone has ever heard of this being a thing before. It's his 16th. It's not even any sort of milestone.

Can you imagine, Giggs or Scholes or Keane having their debut anniversary discussed and the manager apologising for them not playing on it?

Isn't that to so with context though? For good or ill Gerrard has been the central axis to the whole club for many years. He's dropped on a significant date so Rodgers is asked about it. Making comparisons with Giggs or Scholes doesn't really fit as their role at their club wasn't so central (not a comment on their influence and ability).

I think Pickled is right.
He didn't know about the date until the reporter mentioned it. It's not important. It could have been the 3,000th day since his first headed goal.

It's hyperbole, the sort of stuff he has encouraged his whole career and the reason he is so difficult to drop now.

It's almost impossible to drop Gerrard. He should join RAWK and post a poll to check if he'll get a lot of shit for it.

He was dropped against Real and yesterday. So not really impossible.

He wasn't dropped yesterday, he was rested. No way in hell he was going to play 3 games in a week. And as for the Real game, Brenden conceded the points and saved key players legs for the Chelsea game. Hardly dropping again.

There's been no time this season or any other that Gerrard has been "dropped" - as in had a player selected over him because that player is deemed a better choice than him.

That's semantics.

The question is what happens now though, innit?

Does Brenty change a winning team?

Gerrard will come back in. If people criticise Rodgers for it then he can just say that they actually scored the goal with Gerrard on the field (at least I think they did).

This has me in tears. I'm dreaming of the day they win the CoC and he comes out with "It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me"

I'm just imagining training. Rodgers starts fooling around, and goes in for a challenge on Sturridge. Completely accidentally, he breaks his leg.

Rodgers: "Shit, I've broken his leg!"

Gerrard: "No, I did it!"

Rodgers: "No, no, you didn't."

Gerrard: "If the fans find out, they turn against you, and you're done. I hurt him. I went in for that tackle."

He then flees.

Sterling: "Why's he running, Brendan?"

Rodgers: "Because he can take it...assuming he doesn't do in his ligaments or something. He's the hero Anfield deserves, but not the one it needs right now. Because he's a red knight, a central midfielder...and my landlord."
