Television Breaking Bad

Finished it for the second time, it's even better on second view.

I think comparing this story with everything I've seen on TV, no story comes even close, so many little details and little stories that all mean something later in the show, Vince Gilligan is a pure genius!

Watching Queen's gambit, and randomly comparing the quality - just goes to show how critical some people can be of Breaking Bad. Breaking bad objectively has around 4-6 episodes out of 5 seasons where nothing happens for which you can say that are boring, and I think in only two or three epsiodes I even checked my phone or did something else while watching it, even though it was a rewatch and I knew already what was going to happen. Queens gambit - it's an excellent show, but had many moments where I took my phone for browsing, doing random stuff because I knew some dialogues didn't lead to anything, and that I won't miss a thing, and it's a seven episode mini series.

It's one of the all time greats I think. Have you seen Saul? I think it is as good now as breaking bad, absolutely love it.
 
I can't believe we slept on this for so long. Me and the fiance started watching earlier in the year and we're only on series 3 now but its still great. Thought in season 2 the plot was starting to trip over its own feet, but think this season has just got really interesting again.

I keep seeing Better Call Saul and El Camiro on Netflix too, I assume we're better off finishing the main show first before watching either of them (even the blurb for El Camiro seems to be a bit of a spoiler for the show, so I'm geuess definitely the case for that one)?

deffo watch those after. Even though Saul is a prequel - they assume most people would have watched Breaking Bad by now!:lol:

I thought I was late to the party when I started watching the series when they announced it was going to end - that was about 7 years ago! It’s one of only 2 shows I’ve re-watched, The Shield is the other one.

it’s brilliant. I’m sure you will live Saul as well. Very different, but equally as brilliant.

Yes El Camino happens during/ after the last season of BB.

I’ve watched season 1 of better call Saul, wouldn’t say there’s spoilers in their for BB.
 
I saw el Camino but not breaking bad or better call Saul.
Did I feck up the order or can I still go back and watch breaking bad?
 
I don't think I found any episode boring, thinking back. Even that episode where Walt was trying to swat a fly.

It's incredible. You keep thinking this is just some short joke and soon they will start on with something important and it looks like they are done with it, they just keep continuing with it. Imagine waiting a week in a pretty intense drama series and watching that. Absolutely awesome. :lol:
 
Just started watching this for the second time last night. Enjoying it far too much.

That first episode with Tuco is immense.
 
I've now started my first rerun as well and I'm amazed how well the first season is holding up. Remember it being a bit slower and marred by the writer's strike, but it's pretty much a perfect setup. My wife, as a first-time watcher, was hooked instantly.

Now in Season 3:

Are the cousins the single worst thing in the show? How did such lazy clichéd abominations of characters end up getting greenlit? Absolutely awful tripe.

Easily the worst part of the show.

Yeah s2 was the weakest for me. I think 3 was better and then 4 especially the last 4 episodes were just brilliant
 
I might be in a minority here, but I still get goosebumps at certain scenes and I have seen this show in its entirety probably 10 times by now :lol:

Particularly the scene where Hank finally realises it was Walt all along.

I still think it's the greatest TV of all time when you weigh it all up, I can't see myself thinking a show is better than this. Although, Better Call Saul could run it close.

yeah there are still goosebump moments no matter how many rewatches for me, like:

When walt runs over the guys coming to kill Jesse, turns to him and says RUN, or the train robbery, or the part where he is in the laundry and Mike is going to kill him, but Jesse is on the way to Gails place.........All superb
 
Breaking Bad is immense, and the only show I have rewatched the entire way through twice (or three viewings total).

When GoT was on air I think I rated it higher, but I haven't had any desire to rewatch GoT. I'm not sure if its the slower pace, or simply the balls up of the final series/episode.

Tbh I found myself somewhat uninterested in it. I liked parts but no, I suppose it didn’t.

My wife has seen all of the shows, but she watches so much telly anyway. She was mentioning BB while we watched it but of course the references were lost on me.

I enjoyed El Camino but it was more a guilty pleasure for BB tragics than a standalone film. So much of what happens requires knowledge of BB to be meaningful.
 
I just got to the fly episode, and thanks to this thread as soon as it started I knew what was going to happen. I surprisingly didn't completely hate it, at first it was pretty funny. I think considering the show had got quite heavy up to that point it needed a wacky episode.

was a great episode. I think they mentioned that they ran out of money for stunts and other set extras in that series, so ”the fly” materialised out of zero budget. But it captured a great turning point of Walt for me.
 
This show ruined TV for me. Nothing I have watched since has even come close.

Visual metaphor of his duality. He was Gus the business man and Gus the drug dealer. In the end both of his sides were visible.

It’s not great, and definitely unrealistic - the bomb went off right next to his head. To include it seems an odd when it doesn’t really add anything to the story.
