Blessing in disguise or madness?

Its pure pure madness.
Would Barca sell Messi if he threw a tantrum? - No chance
Woud Mourinho sell Ronaldo if he threw a wobbler? - No chance
Selling Stam, Tevez were massive mistakes by Fergie so to say he never gets it wrong is bollox. It took us about 3 years to recover from selling Stam. Selling Beckham was maybe not a great idea also considering he had a lot to offer in my oinion and made Madrd 400 Million Euro in profit in his time there!
Man Utd are skint because of the Glazer scumbags and Fergie needs to raise cash for players and selling Rooney is the only way he knows he can revamp the squad with a few top youngsters.
If Fergie had money to spend then he would not be considering selling Rooney now despite Rooney being a total cock. Theres no gaurentees also that Fergie will get the full money from the Rooney sale to spend on new blood! Fergies abililty to handle our top performers needs to be questionsed also for the likes of Mourinho do not sell thier best players after a couple of tantrums and find ways to keep them happy and performing well!
It really depends on a lot of things. As much as I love Rooney, he's nowhere near the level of Ronaldo and Messi. Those are the kind of players that when they're at their best can mask a lot of the teams problems and win titles through their form. His potential I believe can make him the best in the world but he's been rubbish since his injury last season so lets not put him in that bracket of players firstly.

Secondly, Fergie obviously does make mistakes. But he has to judge the situation (If there is any!). If Rooney is holding us to ransom for a 200K per week contract which will suck the club dry and not allow us to progress and further build the team, and moreover create a terrible precedent for the club as a whole, then it is NOT worth it. It can be considered for a player like Ronaldo or Messi, but not Rooney. He has to prove it on the pitch, potential is not enough.

Anyways that's my take of a hypothetical situation.

Keep the faith people... I'm more worried about getting rid of the Glazers further down the line rather than Rooney thinking he is too big for this club. We just need to invest the money in exceptional young talent and look forward to a new era even if it will be a long process of transtition.

In response to the OP.... no player is bigger than the club so single handedly winning us the league or not, if he wants to go, let him. Especially in lue of his comments about the club lacking ambition. If he wants instant success let him hop on the next available gravy train and leave us to develop and come back again. It may take longer than usual now but it will happen again.

It isn't either because we have no choice really. He has chosen to leave so we have to make the best of it if we can't persuade him to stay.
