Biggest bottle job Liverpool 2014 or England 2018?

Liverpool/Gerrard 2014 always.

England didnt make a balls of it they were just beaten by another team. Would be different if they had lost in extra time to 10 men after conceding in the last minute of normal time due to a howler but it was 1-1 for ages in fairness and Croatia were much better second half.

Yes Jagielka. For some reason he comes running into midfield from centreback to challenge for the same ball Gerrard is going for, even though he's clearly going to get nowhere near it, leaving Suarez in the process. If he'd stayed where he was the header would have gone straight to him...It's actually quite possible when you watch it back that it's him that puts Gerrard off in the first place.

I've no issue with Gerrard getting stick but when you watch it back he's not even the main one at fault really. He just won a header.
You're talking about something other than Gerrard's slip v Chelsea in 2014.

Can't really argue to be honest.

Just thought I'd mention it mate

:D

This thread though typifies most English fans though. 22 minutes away from being legends / heroes and now England are being ripped.

Fickleism ( is that a word ) at it's best.

Can you point to a single instance on this thread of England being “ripped” by an England fan? Most just accept that Croatia were a bit better and are proud of Southgate and the team of restoring some normality to a dysfunctional team.

Ok my post may have belonged elsewhere but I've seen on here and on other forums about Kane's miss and the odd little dig at Spurs. Maybe it's done in humour but sometimes I find it a tad difficult on the internet to see if people are taking the piss or being serious. Just over 24 hours ago England as a nation ( or most of it as Iam sure some people can't be arsed ) were behind the team but I now I feel there's a bit of blaming and finger pointing starting. That's it mate . How's that ?

Liverpool was a GOAT level bottle-job. England actually exceeded expectations.

Again. Showing my age here and I really feel for the fellas in here older than me.

What the feck does GOAT mean ?

This internet lingo is weird.

I don’t really see the scapegoating this time round - yes, Kane could have done better and maybe Southgate’s subs were not right but ultimately getting to the last 4 was good enough. You should see it on here when United lose a game....

I do see it when United lose a game but I deffo stay out of those ones. Iam not one for jumping in and all that .

When did Jagielka play for Chelsea?

World Cup time is wummin' time, it seems.

It's been interesting, actually, as the waters have been pretty muddy at times. Beyond the obvious fishers and the obvious idiots taking the bait, there have been numerous genuinely ambiguous contributions.

Then again, you may question the sanity of people who wum to perfection. It can't be healthy.

Have no clue what you’re talking about here. Jagielka did not feature in the infamous Liverpool vs Chelsea game, nor has he ever played for either team.

It would have been a travesty if this England side somehow managed to be crowned world champions.

Looking at the passage we had through to the semis and the 1st half of the Croatian game, when I felt we were in the driving seat. Not coming in at half time with a 2 or 3 goal lead is bordering to bottling it imo. We could have had that game sewn up with one foot in the final!

Definitely Liverpool. They were six points clear of the eventual winners with three games to go (City had four to go) and somehow finished two points behind.

Wtf. How are these two comparable, England were playing a team as good as them while Liverpool effed up two matches to gift the title.

England losing, or Harry Kane missing that single chance, is hardly a choke.

England were a class below the other semi finalists. It was no bottlejob, actually England were firm underdogs out of the final four.

England had zero expectations before the tournament, and went way further than even the most deluded fan would have predicted.
The only bit close to a "Bottle job" was being 1-0 up, well in control (which people seem to forget now), and missing a few really good chances, Kane's two and Lingard.
Even the pundits at half time were saying if we get a second we'd race onto win comfortably.

Liverpool's collapse was something else. ALL of us had pretty much dealt with the fact they WERE winning it. When Chelsea turned up and fielded a pretty much B team, and all Liverpool needed was a draw, no-one really held out much hope.

To lose to that Chelsea team, with Stevie Hollywood's infamous work was incredible. Truly incredible.

It's not even comparable to United's little bottle job a few years ago, as City had bottled it first, so we shouldn't really have had the chance back anyway. Liverpool had smashed people all season with an incredible momentum.

Chelsea werent as good as Liverpool?

Yes but Liverpool were playing at home and were comfortably in the lead for the title, everyone expected them to be champions so for them to not only lose to Chelsea but also then draw from 3-0 up to Palace was a mighty 'bottlejob'. England v Croatia was 50-50, Liverpool winning the title with 3 matches left was 70-30. A large difference between the two.

What about United's bottle job in 1998 when you were 12 points clear of Arsenal in March with the Gunners still having to play at OT ? Then we had Newcastle's 2 years earlier & Kevin Keegan's meltdown. Both were far worse than Liverpool in 2014. We lost 2 consecutive games 2-1 over the Christmas period to City & Chelsea. We entered the start of the new year in 5th place, & went on a run of 15 wins, 3 draws, & 1 defeat in the 2nd half of the season. We were never in the position of United or Newcastle of having a massive gap between ourselves & our nearest rivals. Not being able to see yourselves over the finishing line when you're miles ahead of the field is a true bottle job in every sense of the word.

More collapses then bottle jobs.
Bottle jobs are when you're so close and lose it on poor mentality
