Best Striker in the World

I mean as has been noted several times, you tend to be a very agenda driven poster and have no capacity to challenge your own opinions, even with things evolving. It's not particularly interesting to chat about football with you, so enjoy yourself in your little bubble.
The great thing is that your opinion of me and my posts means less than nothing to me so there's that little wrinkle to contend with. Cheerio.

Long time no see, reverted to a silent reader for a stressful while, but wanted to check-in and say that, based on him teaching @kouroux how to define racism, on his interesting take on the royals, and on his fruitless attempts to gain high ground of Haaland expertise, putting @Andrade on ignore makes one oneself a pretty decent striker already.

I love all my fans. Even the stalkers.

Mbappe might be a better all around footballer but he is not a better striker than Haaland.
This season it's not even comparable, Haaland scores more in the better league, and a striker's main attribute should be scoring goals.

Mbappe is a better wide forward but that's not we are discussing here.

He is

I feel this last decade there's been a drive from coaches and academies to produce more 'holistic' players rather than position specialists.

Hence the lack of upcoming world class strikers and centrebacks

Wout Weghorst is the only defensive disruptor striker so he gets my vote.

Mbappe hates the 9 role so he shouldn't even be considered at all

He went missing against us for a large part of our game too.
He wasn't necessarily great in every game but he won the golden boot with 8 goals. That's the most anyone has scored at a World Cup for 52 years (shout out to R9 who also managed 8 goals in '02).

I said world cup, not just the final.

His WC performances are masked by his goal haul, which is boosted by a couple of very good games, notably against Australia and Poland. He also went missing in large parts of big games and was quite ineffective. Messi's WC was objectively a level above, and much more consistent. This is gonna go down just like Zidane's 98 WC, where he was largely poor leading up to the final, missing games through suspension and generally being meh, but having a worldie in the final (though Mbappé's WC was slightly better than Zizou's 98 tournament). It's ridiculous revisionism over a very short number of games that is then extrapolated as a basis for the debate "they performed on the greatest stage".

Mbappé's 2018 WC was much better than this one, just like Zidane's 2006 one was levels above his 98 one.

I guess it comes down to semantics, do you consider "striker" to be only an out and out striker, or can it be a variety of attacking positions. Fundamentally it doesn't really matter but I can understand why people are bringing him into this debate, him and Haaland are gonna spend their careers being compared.

The argument about all around ability is overstated and misleading. Besides, it is impossible to be that great of a goalscorer without extremely high level of skill and football intelligence. Especially with having in mind the physicality and quickness that is present in his game.

He has an extremely high level of intelligence and an extremely high level of strength and pace, not an extremely high level of skill.

Edit; For the avoidance of confusion, I don't think Mbappe has an extremely high level of skill either but he has a higher level of skill than EH.

That level of precision at high pace and intensity requires a tremendous amount of coordination and skill. It doesn't look smooth and elegant by design.

Not sure if that's true when you are so much more athletic than everyone else. Lukaku scored a lot, and he was devoid of skill.

Skill to me means skill on the ball. But I understand your point.

Mbappe wasn't actually that good at the 2022 World Cup and it's 'revisionist' to say that he was"

2022 World Cup Golden Ball: Messi

Silver Ball; Mbappe

2022 World Cup Golden boot: Mbappe

Silver boot: Messi

Most World Cup 2022 MOTM awards

1. Messi

2. Mbappe

'Basically the same as Zidane's 1998 World Cup except Mbappe was a tiny bit better'

World Cup 1998 awards:

Golden Ball: Ronaldo

Silver Ball: Davor Suker

Bronze Ball: Lilian Thuram

And that was a tournament that France won.

Not sure why Mbappe has fallen so far from grace for many on this forum after being repeatedly called the best player in the world during the World Cup. Maybe it's because he failed to go to Spain and that's always held against him except when there's a big international tournament to distract people from that basic belief.

@Rooney in Paris I agree with your point, I just wanted to refer to what his majesty Mbappe said about the role
Yeah that's fair!

Or, you know... people watched the games?

Benzema has been very very close to first for me but it's been Robert Lewandowski for me for many seasons now. This season and likely moving forward though you just got to give it to Haaland unfortunately.

I hate to say it, but I think it’s the Yeti. Imagine what a difference he would have made to our season.

Benzema is still up there, he will show it in about half an hour.
