Best first touches you've seen

Great thread.

That's 'root one' football at it's best. Some people on this forum call it Hoofball. I love it.
It's quick, incisive, cut's out the midfield drama - defence to attack to goal score in less than 10 seconds. Love it.
Counter attacking football is my favourite, due to the speed at which the players and the ball travels.
Possession football is my least favourite, probably because we used to play like that under LVG and it bored the hell out of me.

The good thing about scoring a goal like this is that it can completely demoralise your opponent. The opponent may have lots of possession and may be playing pretty football, but when you encounter a team who only care about winning and are ruthless, it kills your opponent's belief that they can win. I am not sure why we don't play like this, against teams who have a superior midfield. Absolutely nothing wrong with 'root one' football, when we are outgunned in midfield and it's the only way to get the win. We should've done this against MCFC, last week.

BTW, let's hope that Lukaku does not see this thread.
It will be incredibly demoralising for him.

Excellent, quick question as a PSG fan, do you think Pastore has somewhat wasted his potential or not?

Yeah, frustrating player but on the other hand 1) this artist is fragile and frequently injured and 2) he's an aesthete not known for his fighting spirit.

The competition is tough but he's very versatile: can play on the wing or as a central playmaker.

Below his injury track record!

Random bump, but I was watching PL goals from 06/07 yesterday.

This beauty from Berbatov was on it.

Saw the thread title. Thought of Berbatov. Enter the thread and the first post I see is a berba highlight. Giggs had a silky touch too.

He had insane first touch control, saw one of those stupid videos a while ago where they aimed footballs at him, 60-100km from a machine. He took one to the nuts but still manages to bring one under control at over 100km.

Can't believe no one mentioned Mahrez until now.

He's up there with the very best and had the best first touch in the PL when he was there.

Can’t remember what game it was but Juan Matas when the ball went miles into the air and came back down and he controlled it beautifully.

Berbatov had a great touch, but it's exagerrated massively on the internet by armchair fans.

He played the game at walking pace and a lot of the clips you see of him bringing the ball down happen when he's stationary. Trapping the ball on the run - or even more difficult, when you're going at full pace - is a much more impressive skill.

Indeed

This vid is great, it follows the Thread premise, yet some of the passes/plays after such great controls are equally as great, his skills and reading of the game was off charts (for instance the first play).
To pull out those controls, some with his back facing the rival's net and right after it put a ball with the perfect weight, spin and "message"...well it's just a portrait of what Diego was as a footballer that can't be described with mere stats or even with over the top Epic leader narratives, this kind of plays it's what made me love him more as a footballer, these "little" details.

Other gems..

I remember one play in Napoli where a mate just send a rocket to his chest, he was on the border of the big area, he killed that rocket and after he turned around facing the rival's net and he scored or assisted, I can't recall, but I never forgot how he killed that missile to his chest and his isntant reaction without loosing a milisecond to create the next play, I wish I recall against whom was to find it.

Great wide player who I think overtime will get somewhat forgotten about.
We really should of brought him in 2017.

There was one I always remember from Berbatov.

He was playing for us, and I think it was right at the end of the match. Berb was standing around the half way line, and someone launched a ball from the penalty area towards him.

He just stuck his foot out and stopped the ball dead in mid air, then the whistle for full time blew.

No idea what game it was, but it was magnificent.

I remember that one! Very much like this one when he played for Fulham:

Pretty sure it was Milan at home in 2010(4-0) but the video is gone from YouTube

Aside from the usual magic touches by the likes of Bergkamp, Zidane, Ronaldinho, et al., this one from Aimar left an impression on me way back.

Also these from Ozil deserve a mention (the audible gasps and subsequent silence from the Liverpool fans in the first clip makes the clip that much better):

Wow those Ozil ones are insane. What an incredible talent he was.
