Best Director?

I really like Kubrick but there's something about his films that are kind of lifeless, can't quite put my finger on it. Does anyone else get that vibe?

I think what you're feeling is his God's-eye-view approach to storytelling. I.E. he rarely uses an 'everyman' sort of protagonist through which the audience can experience the film. Thus what you end up with is a continuum of 'strange' or 'objective' viewpoints.

Thats as good a summery of his style as i've read lately.

Spot on.

And I find Mockney having a slight resemblance of Clint Eastwood in the movie.:D

A squashed up Jude is a good resemblance.
But I felt there was some resemblance there if you consider mockney with a light beard.

Don't mess with Clint. People doncha call me Quickdraw Mcgraw for no reason. Got a Masters in triggeronomentry too Might shoot you all up, just for the feck of it.

For me it's...

1. Hitchcock
2. Kubrick
3. Wilder

For the sheer number of great films they've made.

As far as contemporary directors go.. I think Nolan, PT Anderson and Aronofsky are the ones which I'm most excited about.

Hitchcock would be my personal choice - I'm not as clued up on 'World' film as I'd like to be though.

I can't stand his films because they are emotionless and empty. It is like reading a love poem written by a computer from 4 billion Google searches. Everything is in the right place, the words are right yet it just isn't convincing on a human level.
