Horrified
No one's mentioned Michael Bay yet
Kubrick.
I've never seen any Tarkovsky except 'The Mirror', which I fell asleep in. My missus goes crazy for him though.

No one rates Fincher then?
Well, he's certainly not the best, is he?
How do you measure the "best"?
How do you measure the "best"?
The best director for me is daring, and got films with both pictorial and directorial quality. And the weakest link in the chain etc. And he has to be proven to be a great director overall and not just a niche director. Say if he's only done horror, than I have no idea how good he his making other stuff. Like I can't base Nanis performance on his ability to cross the ball alone, I want to see the rest of his field play. I also want the director to be involved in the script, because that tells me that he's a true visionary person. (Yup I'm being sexist, but face it, no woman is close). And I want the films to be considered art.
But I also see "best" as being better than everyone else. Really, I don't think there's been a director who's been so much better than everyone else that he could be considered the best. It's a game of nuances. So what I really thought of when you wanted to consider Fincher was, is he better or as good as Kubrick? That was a clear no.
The chap who did the Bourne trilogy, i'm sure he's english too.
Speilberg. Kubrick. Kitano. Ridley Scott. Coppola.
Gets a lifetime pass for Bladerunner and Alien, but the historical epic thing is getting kind of annoying.
Oh, and Ang Lee. He's a chameleon. Always trying something new and always pulling it off. Not easy to do.
Different directors.
I thought it was the same guy who did all three .

Funny you should say that as he's about to return to both of those universes.
Spielberg, Woody Allen, Clint Eastwood to name a few.
I was watching the good, the bad and the ugly earlier in the day. And I find Mockney having a slight resemblance of Clint Eastwood in the movie.![]()
.Mockney, if the light is just right (and we're talking Mayan-Calendar right), kind of resembles a squashed up Jude Law.
I really don't see the Clint Eastwood comparison. Unless you saw a pic of Hugh Jackman and mistook it for the big M.
