Music Best debut albums of all time

I still remember the first time I heard Y Control. I played it on repeat for days
So good, that, Rich, Man and Pin which was probably my favourite. They had a song they released on the B side of some single that I heard in a skating vid and I got it imported but lost that copy and have spent years looking for it and just seen that on Spotify there is a remastered Fever to Tell which has the song on it. Know what I’m listening to today then.

50 Cent - Get Rich or Die Tryin
The Game - The Documentary
Kanye West - The College Dropout
Nas - Illmatic
Eminem - The Slim Shady LP

While most musicians need some time to find their sound, some get it right away.
I’ll make the start with what I consider to be the best debut ever:
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures

When I saw the thread title, this was the one that came to mind!

Arctic Monkeys has to be up there too.

Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. The creative genius of Syd Barrett at full speed. It's every bit as brilliant as any of the later big hit albums, just completely different. I love it to bits.
The Doors - The Doors isn't half bad either, having some of their greatest songs on it. Both albums from '67 by the way. What a year for music that was!

Arctic Monkeys has to be up there too.
Because it obviously is the best debut of all time.
I often wonder what it must have been like to listen to that album for the first time, back when it was new. Disorder as the very first track. That must have blown so many minds back then. And it still does today.

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn - Pink Floyd
High Voltage- AC/DC
Black Sabbath- Black Sabbath
My Generation - The Who

Most of the people i'd have said have already been mentioned - The Smiths, Joy Division and The Stone Roses especially.

In recent years, one I always mention in threads like these "The XX - XX".

Portishead - Dummy
It's just astonishingly good

Oasis - Definitely Maybe
Total blast of singalong from start to end

Snoop - Doggystyle
Great vibes and amazing flow

NWA - Straight Outta Compton
Angry, aggressive, melodic and brilliant

Chemical Brothers - Exit Planet Dust
Incredible beats

Fatboy Slim - Better livin thru chemistry
Contains Everybody Needs a 303 which is one of my all time fav tunes

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92

Autechre - Incunabula

Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children

Slip Shady LP has a few mentions, but he released Infinite 3 years prior. Was only on an indie, but still a full length. Its pretty good too. I really dig the beats on it. Proper grimey.

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn - Pink Floyd
High Voltage- AC/DC
Black Sabbath- Black Sabbath
My Generation - The Who
Piper was what popped into my head too when I read the thread title. Syd Barrett and what could have been...

Some great punk & post punk debuts: The Adverts, The Ruts, Gang Of Four, Television.

Lots of important R'n'R albums were debuts too, like Chuck Berry, Elvis, Little Richard, The Beatles. Not always consistent records, I feel.

Are You Experienced & Never Mind The Bollocks were mentioned several times, can't get any better for me.

System of a down- system of a down
Nirvana- Bleach
Funkadelic-Funkadelic
Todd Terje- It's album time (best electronic album of all time so far)
Burial- Burial
John Frusciante- Niandre La Des
Rage Against the Machine- RATM
Alt-J- An Awesome Wave
Mac Demarco- 2

Edit: Lankum- Cold Old Fire

Stereophonics - Word Gets around

Personal favourite of mine.

Wu-Tang - 36 Chambers
Madvillainy (this one may be cheating a little)
Jay Z - Reasonable Doubt
Biggie - Ready to Die

Illmatic really is the ultimate though.

Ten - Pearl Jam

Björk - Debut
Prodigy - Experience
Roxy Music - Roxy Music
Beastie Boys - Licensed To Ill

Real Life - Magazine
Parachutes - Coldplay (forget what came after)

While most musicians need some time to find their sound, some get it right away.
I’ll make the start with what I consider to be the best debut ever:
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures

I'd go for:

- Television: Marquee Moon
- The Clash: The Clash
- Journey: Journey
- Magazine: Real Life

All from the late 1970's I think (my era).

I like Unknown Pleasures as well (Shadowplay, Day of the Lords, New Dawn Fades - all classics)

And some other awesome debut albums...

Dexys Midnight Runners - Searching for the Young Soul Rebels
Killing Joke - Killing Joke
Machine Head - Burn My Eyes
Missing Persons - Spring Session M
