Best band to come out of Britain....Ever

Just to add to my above post, if this was about who your favorite bands were then fine, but it isn't, it's about who is the best band to have come out of Britain, ever.

Led Zeppelin, no question.

Fair shout.

I would have said the Beatles at a push, but I will plump for the Pink Floyd, for now............................yet to see what Radiohead do for the next ten years or so.........:D

I would class the Beatles as pop.

I love the Beatles, but they are not 'rock' in my book.

Best band-the Beatles - songwriting, originality and influence on other bands puts them at the top.
Most talented and fav band for me anyway - led zeppelin....easy.

Pistols
Clash
Stone Roses
PIL
Joy Division
Smiths

Would be my list as none of these ever made an impression in the States bar say the Pistols and the Clash, therefore they must be the best bands ever to come out of this country...!!!

The Beatles obviously.

anyone who has mentioned Queen before the beatles is a cloth eared gimp.

I'm seeing The Who in London on Wednesday, can't fecking wait

I saw them last November in San Jose and in February in Fresno. Thoroughly enjoyable and a great show--but just not the same without Entwhistle and Moon (going back to the Phoenix concert in 1972).

I remember Beatlemania from the first tour in February of 1964 and the ensuing "British invasions" (parts I and II). I much preferred the Rolling Stones, the Who, and the Kinks.

feckin' stupid question.!..The Beatles are the best band the world has ever seen let alone Britain.....The battle for second place is a far more intriguing argument..... mmmm I'll go for The Pistols.

great band...greatest ever im not sure, but definately in the top 10

Top three for me, but give it 5-10 years and who knows.

This next album of theirs could be a big one for them.

But whatever they are a truely great band already, pushing boundries and influencing other bands left right and centre, the mark of any great band imo.

I love radiohead

i guess the thing is how can you compare them essentially.

Im not sure how you compare radiohead to Zeppelin, totally different or Zep to the beatles or the bealtes to the stone roses etc etc

Impossible to do, all comes down to personnal opinion really.

Can I ask why you mention the Stone Roses alongside those other truely great bands. Can a band that have only released two albums really be compared to such legendary bands that have recorded and performed over a vast amount of time?

BTW I am a fan of the Roses just to clarify :)

your quite right RN,I'm not a huge fan of the likes of,zep, floyd and sabbath etc,I like some of their stuff and appreciate what they have done for british music world wide, its all down to personal taste,we are lucky that we have been blessed in providing the planet with some of the most influential bands of all time:)

i think they can if the quality is right, i reckon they can if they have inspired so many others, you know what i mean?

Jeff Buckley only released one true studio album (sketches was unfinished in all reality) but i consider him a great

Fair comments, but this thread was about THE best band in the world ever and as such I believe, as great as those mentioned are and as unarguably influencial, there needs to be some kind of creative backcatalogue behind them to qualify them for this title.

Most of the bands in this thread are great bands, but the best ever? There aren't many imo that can be put forward for that title.

You are correct Patti, my mistake, but lets be honest it all boils down to the same thing anyway. The main players for this title imo are all British based bands.

We fecking rule
