Bernard Mensah | Signed for Atletico

He did last season on loan, but when we signed Bebe no one in Portugal even knew him

I was referring to his time on loan, I don't think he played any games in the Primeira when we signed him.

Pogba? nothing like him.

This guy plays identical to Freddy Guarin. They not only share similarities (that cannon on the right foot, dribbling style, passing style), but also weaknesses (that first touch for example doesn't look great).

of course Guarín is the finished product and this kid can and will keep improving. Im not sure he is what we need though, and not sure the premier league is the best place for him. He seems to thrive in big pitches with plenty of space to run with the ball.

We might as well sign the finished product rather than wait for another few years for the kid to improve

The sort that Chelsea sign then loan to Vitesse or wherever.

UNITED EYE MENSAH

Vitoria midfielder Bernard Mensah has confirmed Manchester United have been in contact with his club regarding a transfer.

Mensah, 20, has impressed for the Portuguese side in his debut season, and admitted to Ghanaian press that the Old Trafford club were interested.

He is reported to have told Allsports in Ghana: "I have not spoken with anyone at Manchester United but I know that there are negotiations with my club."

I like the look of him, reported price 10m euros a couple of weeks back I read. Definitely should snap him up and get a pre season with us, he can always be loaned out if not ready but he looks a definite future talent who if not signed, will probably end up at a Porto for example and be worth three or four times that amount in a season or two.

(RE: Pre season) I think he may get called up to the Ghana squad for the U-20 World Cup (well I bloody well hope so).
If he's signed, he will be the first Ghanaian to play for MUFC. Technically Timothy Fosu Mensah is also Ghanaian but born in Netherlands.

Obviously not seen a peep of him, but seems to be an exciting talent going by reviews.
Will be an interesting signing more than anything.

He's a couple of months too old for the u20 world cup. The cut off is 1-1-95

You may be right. There are actually 2 Bernard Mensah. 1 plays striker for Watford they both somehow have the same dob on Wikipedia.
Someone is going to sign the wrong Mensah

This could end up being like when Sir Bobby Robson signed Carl Cort instead of Jason Euell.

sign him up those strong african midfielders with a tad of football skill and speed always end up being such good footballers

Viera, Pogba move over we have Mensah now !

Not sure I want a player who might disappear for a tournament during a season. Is he close to being a full international yet?

Maybe he's a buy for the reserves or one we'll buy and send on loan given how raw he is.

Well we're not signing this guy AND Firmino. One link or both links are bollocks.
Team is going to look different next season... Louie's words.

Creating strong competition among the midfielders is a right thing to do especially when Fletcher, Ando and Cleverley are all gone. We need some youth in our ranks that will be developed into Van Gaal's philosophy from early days.

If it's true I doubt it's also a high financial risk type of signing. Physically the lad is already suited for Premier League and he also got some engine to attack.

So, is this us doing Mendes yet another favour or is he actually doing us one? I would actually prefer him doing us a bigger favour than this, if that's what it is.

I can't argue with any of that to be fair.

Mendes is his agent?
Don't buy. We've got no need for another player who wants to go to Real Madrid, or ends up a big waste of money.

Who is better?

One is an etablished bundesliga player who's been playing for the NT, the other one is a young emerging talent having only shown glimpse of what he's capable of in his national league. That's hardly worth a comparison. Both are different players at different levels of their development.
