Transfer bollocks (and worst tag-line) of the week goes to Geoff Sweet of The Sun with this effort;

I'LL BE BERBA OF SEVILLE

By GEOFF SWEET

Published: Today

DIMITAR BERBATOV is wanted by Seville.

The Manchester United striker's contract runs out next summer and the Spaniards hope to land him in a cut-price £12million deal.

Berbatov, 30, is United's top scorer but is now playing second fiddle to Javier Hernandez.

Seville have sounded out the Bulgarian's agent Emile Dantchev but any deal depends if United will take such a cut after paying Spurs £30.75m for him in 2008.

Berbatov has hit 48 goals in 123 games - including 22 and three hat-tricks this season - but fans have never warmed to him.

Hernandez is seen as the better option alongside Wayne Rooney.

Seville have Argentine midfielder Diego Perotti, highly rated by Liverpool and Newcastle, to sell and might be prepared to increase their valuation of Berba if all parties agree to the move.

I think he needs to learn that the team the team from Seville that he is referring to is called Sevilla before he comes up with any more transfer stories

The media really want us to sell Berbatov. Bollocks stories like these have popped up regularly ever since he joined us.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him leave. It hasn't really worked out for him here.

I've only heard it in the past season to be honest with a few German clubs, namely Bayern and Dzeko-less Wolfsburg apparently after him.
Were he to realistically leave United, I'd think he prosper in Serie A myself and could see him at Milan.

I dont see why he'd leave, how bad a year he has had... still leads the EPL in goals, the tides of the season come and go, I could see him leaving but I would rather he didnt in the near future.

Caughtoffside.com on the BBC website says Berbatov is going back to Spurs in the summer.

Can't see that on the BBC site (below link) but we know Harry likes to buy former players, although they usually have had to had play for him first.

BBC Sport - Football - Thursday's gossip column - transfers and rumours

La Liga is a striker's league come to think of it, more so than Serie A so maybe he would have a lot of freedom to express himself visually, creatively and he could wear a headband there and not feel unusual...

I really dont want him to leave. He has finally settled and whilst he has not been effective regularly in big games he has proven his worth and shown that he can be a usefull option at times.

Would it not be great if berbatov was our 3rd choice striker. Experience and skill to bring in when we need to turn a game or injury hits Hernandez or Rooney.

Of course I'm assuming bebatov would be content with that role. he would still play 20 plus games a season and be part or a successful side.

If he wants regular football i'm afraid he will leave

I think it would be good, yes he has scored more goals this year but he still has found it hard to keep his place and also keep being consistent. Would love to see us buy a new centre forward.

Why? We will have Welbeck returning next year.

I know but Welbeck isn't really a CF.

What is he, a right-back? Course he's a centre-forward.
And I still say Welbeck isn't good enough to play for United, neither is Macheda.
Both have shown great glimpses here and there, Russell Beardsmore had a great season in 1988/89 with several outstanding performances and was never seen again.

Time will tell I guess, obviously making it at United is no easy thing. Following on from his loan spell at Sunderland though I expect he will at least be given the opportunity.

I think he will be given the opportunity but I don't expect to see too much of him, nor Macheda and certainly not Diouf.

I'm with you on Diouf. Macheda is still very young though (still only 19). I must admit i'm not as enthusiastic as I once was about him but i'm still hopeful.

I hope so too, his introduction was explosive and I suppose we all expected a continuance on that, but apart from say small glimpses like his goal versus Villa, he hasn't done it for us and Fergie obviously thinks he's not the finished article by some way or he wouldn't have sent him to Italy.
I keep hearing Welbeck has been excellent at Sunderland and I freely admit I haven't seen all their games, but what I have seen has been alright, but not excellent. He WAS excellent versus Chelsea, but I'm not going to base my summary of him overall on that one performance and I know he's played well in others but I'm still not sure he's United class other than the odd game here and there.

It would have been better for us to send Macheda on loan to a fellow EPL club.

I think we all know that and Fergie himself said that's what he would have preferred but Macheda wanted to go to Italy as he felt he was being overlooked by the Italian national team.

Every cloud has a silver lining though and the fact his loan has been such a failure maybe it will have gotten it out of his system.

I tend to agree. Contract up next year, not guaranteed a regular spot and 30 years old. Also (I would think) on fairly decent money.

The new contract doesn't seem to have materialised so they may decide to cahs in and invest the money elsehwere.

We have a lot of loan strikers coming back to the club; Welbeck, Macheda and Diouf. Interesting to see them back next season.

You would rather three unproven, young strikers instead of our top scorer?

This forum is awesome.

Better to cash in now and get 10-12 million than risk him leaving on a free end of next season. Seems to be out of favour now especially after his Wembley effort.

Diouf will probably never be seen in a red shirt of United again. No way he is good enough.

Macheda has not lived up to his early promise. Welbeck has the biggest chance out of all three but he doesn't seem that convincing either, in my opinion.

I can't see us selling Berbatov unless we brought another striker in, and I would hope/presume that we use whatever money we have to strengthen other areas first.

Spot on with everything.

I didn't say that, I said it would be interesting how they will go next year back at our club. If Berbatov goes we need to buy a new striker we can't rely on these three lads plus Owen is leaving.

This is why Berbatov will stay, we are unlikely to find another striker with experience and a degree of quality, who will come in and be willing to be 3rd choice.

I don't agree that Welbeck doesn't seem convincing, and it's far far too early to make any judgement on Macheda.

Not Berba's biggest fan but I don't want him to go when he is on form he is fantastic.
On the other hand if he was to go I would not be shocked , if we got a bid that got us our money back , he would be gone.
So long has we was given then money to replace him.

Yeah no shit. If we got offered 30m for Scholes I think he'd be gone too.

I'm not sure, it's depends if Berba will be happy with his role in the squad, if he is then I can't even see how 12m would be good business for us.

Don't be so sure about Diouf. Gibson had a poor loan spell in the championship and was still given a chance when he got back.

Welbeck WILL be given a chance. He is a brilliant young striker, and deserves a shot.

Part of me would be sad to see him go, but a part of me would be glad aswell - not just for the club, but for the player aswell. You get the feeling that no matter what he does or doesn't do, he will always split opinion amongst our fans.

I hope he doesn't leave though, but if he does, he will hopefully take another well deserved league winners medal (fingers crossed for Champions league aswell) with him.

Bollocks story though and for 12M...you can get a signed pair of Berba's silky pyjamas. I'd rather we kept him, than at that amount.

None of us really know that , in a few games he has looked disinterested , but I think thats just the way he plays.
£12m would be a joke for him , maybe not worth the £30m we paid but still more than 12.
