Benjamin Pavard

There's no way we're getting this guy if Harry stays. We're not having Varane + Martinez + Lindelöf + Maguire + Evans and now this guy. Pretty disappointing, tbh. Harry out + Pavard in would have been a major upgrade.

It’s funny, because if you make an annagram for Maguire Pavard, you get Major Upgrade.

(Almost)

I know it betrays my age but it's apparently a whole journo job to aggregate who is liking who or what on Instagram and what it so explosively means, I guess ?
Suppose it's less violent than a moody mercurial star player fly kicking an oppo fan and as such progress.

Harry will leave. It’s him wanting all the money in the world.

To be fair to McTominay it was the club who priced him out of the move. He had no say in it so no reason to be angry at him;.
Off-topic quite a lot, but saying the club priced McTominay out is kind of harsh - seeing how it's another topic how we are terrible at selling players and only get some sales for peanuts. If anyone would be openly interested in buying him we could have negotiated the price fairly as us starting from 45m and you can work down from it, as it should be. Fred's sale was a bad example of the opposite.

Not a fan of hes, but if this means seeing less of Maguire so be it, he can't be worst at defending compared to Maguire is he?

If we buy Pavard, Maguire and Evans are non factor, they will be employed like the tea lady. We would have 4 CBS for 2 positions so plenty of game time.

Pavard will sure occupy some minutes at RB as well so that’s 40 games minimum for him next year. If he’s good there’s option he can take Varane’s place after year or two so for him makes a lot of sense.

If we can afford him it’s a non brainier.

Afford him with what money?

Considering yesterday’s game, I feel he would be another deadwood signing. Don’t know why but just have that feeling.

I think he would have ended up playing RB more often than CB for us. He is very good at progressing the ball, which as we know from the other night, is not something the right side of our defence (Varane or Wan Bissaka) are particularly adept at.

Why don't they ever try one of those "loan with an obligation to buy" transfers?

Bayern cannot loan him out since his contract ends next summer.

He could agree to extend it by a year for the transfer to happen, same happened with Raya and Brentford.

I'm talking in general too, United have a problem with FFP and that's one way out of it if they want new signings.

It would be kicking the can down the road. It doesn’t fix anything.
You spent money horribly and now unfortunately have to deal with the consequences.

Or just take a leaf out of Bayern's book and tap the player up for a free transfer next summer!

It does fix the problem of getting the player. I know we spent horribly but this didn't stop other clubs with similar issues from doing this type of transfer.

That would work if Pavard would only want United. But…
If he doesn't we move onto other targets.

I think this transfer should be contingent on what position Pavard actually wants to play anyway. If he wants to predominantly play CB as some reports suggest, I think there would be more value in us pursuing other targets like Todibo. If he's happy to continue playing RB, Pavard would be a more interesting proposition. The Maguire transfer stalling complicates things, but in an ideal world we'd be selling him plus one of Dalot/Wan-Bissaka to make room for two players joining in those positions.

Inter is allegedly offering €25m. Surely United cannot be that broken to not be able to pay at least the same.

Surely we must have an extra £25m hidden in under the back of the sofa? Unless of course the Maguire issues have really thrown a spanner in that is ?
