He still doesn't look United material. His idea of beating a man is by doing a series of step overs which allows his man to beat him to the ball before he is done with his repertoire. Couldn't cross to save his life. I will like to think that we didn't pay £7.4m for someone who can do step overs alone.

Physically he is good enough, anyone who can compete with Elokobi is more than competent in the Physical stakes.

This comment makes me disregard all your other points.

Put in a couple of beautiful crosses in the second half.

Don't know what anyone's complaining about really, looked more than competent on the ball and was clearly very quick and strong. Been here what, slightly over two months? Promising early signs for me.

Surely even the CAF should be prepared to give this lad alot more slack than our usual young players given the background?

Don't think that's the point in some people's opinion. He's been signed by Utd and as such is expected to deliver regardless of the baggage.

His crossing was just off yesterday and he still set up Macheda and scores from his cross. In his reserve games his crosses have just been waiting for someone to get on the end of them, real peaches.

The main concern is his first touch.

He's what, 20 years old? In a new country and doesn't speak English yet. The club have bought him as a prospect if you listen to what's been said by Fergie in the media.

The lad looked very good last night considering that iot was his first start and I for oen was impressed. A few rough edges to knock off but a good start.

Manchester United striker Bebe was 'bargain buy' Manchester United picked up summer-signing Bebe for as little as £4.8m, according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.

Sir Alex Ferguson caused a stir by splashing a reported fee of £7.4m on the unknown forward, who had been playing for Portuguese third division outfit Estrela da Amadora, before moving onto Vitoria De Guimaraes last May.

The rags-to-riches story became even more remarkable after it was revealed that Bebe had been raised in an orphanage.

On sealing the deal Ferguson admitted that, for the first time, he had signed the player without ever seeing him play.

But according to the Portuguese press, the reported fee of £7.4m is some way wide of the mark.

Speaking at an assembly of club associates, Vitoria president Emilio Macedo said that the club only received £4.8m from United for the transfer.

Bebe marked his full United debut by scoring in Tuesday's 3-2 Carling Cup victory over Wolves at Old Trafford. Should the Portuguese turn out to be a hit in Manchester, £4.8m will be considered a real bargain.

Our accounts show that we spent £8.3m on new players after June 30th - unless there is some youth player who I dont know about who arrived after that then it is all Bebe and all paid for already.

The other possibility is that Hernandez' transfer was not officially sealed until after the word cup and that £8.3m represents what we paid for both he and Bebe.

I think we normally pay these type of deals in installments don't we?

Could also be fee's paid for players already signed, appearance fee's, international apperances ect ect.

I missed the second half last night, what a goal. I'm sure I've seen him do that in one of those compilation videos as well.

gie him a chance...if he is still as shit as some of our other "Potential Players" after 3 seasons then make a call....

hes only a kid

What does it say on balance sheet?

Ie we could have spent £8m with a further £8m liability for future payments owed to the clubs.

Fergie disagrees.

SAF Comments on Bebe

Bebe's improvement since his arrival as a virtual unknown earned him his first start for the Reds, and after being the best player in a dull first half, the Portuguese winger opened the scoring with a cross that looped up off a defender and over the line.

"Bebe's goal was a bit fortunate but he did the right thing, he attacks the defender and it was either going to be a really good cross or, as it turned out, a deflection into the net," assessed Sir Alex.

"It was a good full debut for the boy. He’s been improving physically over the last few weeks and we’re very pleased with his potential. He’s brave, he’s quick and he’s a good crosser of the ball.

"It’s always difficult when you don’t speak the language. He hasn’t mastered that yet, he’s getting his lessons twice a week. It’s going to take time. Settling into Manchester United as a young boy does take time."

Sounds promising anyway.

I can see why SAF says he had fitness problems, he got a knock around 60-65 minutes... Never recovered from that and I was surprised he wasn't substituted earlier...

After the knock he simply gave the ball away... But again, I'd blame the management for not seeing the knock...

Raw, big, strong, decent touch, nice skills... I can see why we got the lad, lets not compare him to Ronaldo though cuz I doubt we'd see a better 18 year old with that skill and physique...

If Bebe' can keep on improving his overall game, I'm sure we have another decent winger.

We along with a few clubs triggered his buy out clause. I'm pretty sure that the whole fee has to be paid.

Anyway, don't Portuguese clubs disclose the information to the stock exchange? One of the portugese posters on here must be able to check.

Hernandez alone cost £6 mill didn't he? David Gill came out and confirmed the fee didn't he?

Once he's up to standard fitness-wise and he's got his head around the language he'll find things much easier. There's clearly a lot of potential for improvement.

i think he looks promising. he looks really really quick and strong. we can't except him to deliver world class performances right away but he sure has showed potential
