LvG saying he will be here next season means feck all, he is not the one deciding if he will stay or not is he.

We will know after the FA Cup final if he will be staying or not. I'm very confident he will be sacked for not achieving top 4.

"In the future you cannot plan"? What is that even supposed to mean anyway. I appreciate English isnt the guys first language but I cant even understand what he is trying to say there...that planning is simply not a thing?
You can't plan ahead with a team you no longer manage (after the weekend)

He has to go.. The board should step up and do the right thing.. How can he continue as our manager with these numbers?!

1st place for Backwards passes.

2nd for sideways passes.

18th for chances created.

16th for total shots made.

15th for shots on target.

14th for passes into the final third.

10th for number of goals.

United this season has scored as many goals as... Sunderland

With 49 goals for the season.. That's the least we've scored since 89-90 season.

Out of UCL first round in a far easier group than Arsenal or City.

Barely finished 5th and that was due to City's incompetence to close it out earlier than last game of the season..

He says defense is much better, but every time we need to close out a game like Vs Chelsea away or have a better defensive performance when we met Arsenal or Spurs away, we just collapsed and defenders looked clueless. Same happened against WHU away. We couldn't hold on to a lead for 15 mins. Heck, couldn't hold on to a draw which would have seen us finish 4th today. When we need to defend to close it out or on a must win game like Wolfsburg away, we messed it up. How can he claim about our "Defensive Organization" I fail to understand.

We've not scored 4 goals in a match in league once this season.

We've scored 3 goals in a match 8 times in 38 games of which one was a 3-3 draw vs Newcastle.

Since that Newcastle game back in Jan, we've scored 3 goals in a game only 3 times. Including tonight..

15 games we've scored only 1 goal in a league game, which resulted in 8 wins 3 draws and 4 loses.

In 9 League games we scored ZERO goals.. 4 draws and 5 loses.

So 24 out of 38 league games we've been unable to either score more than one or none at all..

Had we converted one of those games where we lost or drew to a win or draw, we finish 4th.

The numbers don't lie.. It's been a horrible season to watch as a fan.. I am more ticked off with our style of play than the fact that we couldn't even finish Top 4 leave alone challenge for the title.

I don't want cups and League every year or Glory every year, but I barely recognize our style of play compared to how it used to be. This season has become a chore to watch my beloved team than something that I looked forward to every match day with eagerness for the last 20 years.

You can say whatever about Mourinho's defensive tactics, but I am absolutely sure hisnbrand of football would not be anywhere close to what has been served this season. His brand and style of football cannot and will not be worse than this..

About time we had a sweepstake on what day Jose will be appointed.

I go for May 28th

What a damning list of stats.
I am one of those who isnt keen on Mourinho because I have never like the style of football his teams play. However what you have said here is exactly right and in a choice between LVG or Mourinho its Mourinho hands down for me.

I think he probably will be, too.

It's more defiance rather than anything else.

He doesn't say stuff which suggests he has faith in the board keeping him e.g. "yes I'm going to be here because the CEO has given me assurances."

It's almost piss-taking at this point.

He knows he's gone but it's just a bit of posturing and he'll give the press a middle finger should he win the FA cup and set off into the Portuguese sunset thinking 'job well done'.

It would be very difficult to find anyone who'd get us playing a worse brand of football than the one we've seen this season.

Just watched a video on the counter attacking monster that Real Madrid became under Mourinho. Some of the goals were bloody gorgeous.

One of the commentators was saying tonight that Martial would probably suit such a system more than a possession based one. In fact the majority of our squad probably would:
Martial
Rashford
Lingard
Herrera
Schneiderlin
Smalling
Mata (best season for Chelsea)
Shaw

It's mad that this squad van Gaal's assembled are far more suited to the opposite style of play than what he's attempted to deliver.

Did people really expect him to say he was leaving before a huge game this weekend? Next week will be the nail biter.

He knew since January. He is not stupid.

Exactly. Our football has been shite, and he's a bit wacky from time to time, but people are doing him a disservice if they think he genuinely believes he'll still be here in September.

He's been in on all of this since December.

Saw this about 4 minutes in to a 12 minute compilation on the LVG Out thread it was a stand out and deserves to be on here … probably already been posted here somewhere, but …

I posted it a while back and then some admin removed it and I was like: what the hell?

You talk a good talk but it is doubtful this is true.

United just aren't as organised as you give them credit for, we have the Glazer's who are only interested in the bottom line, Ed who is only interested in pleasing the Glazer's, and a few people on the board who are only interested in themselves, we are not a well oiled finally run machine, we are a joke of a set up that couid quite easily keep LvG because it is the least hard the to do, ie the cheapest, and the one that causes the least trouble inside United, and to hell with the fans.

...Now I have resisted the temptation to have a rant for months over this, but the sight of that smug c**t blaming everyone and everything but himself after this season from hell has pushed me over the edge, :wenger: just go!

You can call the current United a lot of things, but we aren't cheap. We've spent some big money ever since SAF has left so let's not start inventing things.

That's one long depressing post of depressing stats :(

You can call the current United a lot of things, but we aren't cheap. We've spend some big money ever since SAF has left so let's not start inventing things.

I'm inventing nothing, we spent the money because quite rightly the Glazers were crapping themselves over top 4, and the lucrative sponsorship deals that came with it, short term pain long term gain and all that, LvG staying would be a gamble, but he could easily get us top 4 so job done, no need for Mourinho.

The point been it's all about the bottom line and doing the minimum to keep us near the top, for me, (which is what I was replying to,) that could mean Loius staying.

A horrible, horrible post... with which I agree on every word. Please, please let him be gone.

I dont know if there is another thread, and am too lazy to create one, but the 20% of people who voted no, who do they want?

I dont know if there is another thread, and am too lazy to create one, but the 20% of people who voted no, who do they want?

I imagine a fair percentage are fans of other clubs, a good few want Flopchettino, some Simeone and a few may have voted back when Pep or Klopp were still feasible and haven't got around to changing their vote.

Fair enough mate i can see where you're coming from but personally i think Moyes season was worse. Not by a huge margin but still worse for me.

To take the runaway champions down to 7th took some doing. We have been shite this season but that year we only won two games vs the top 10 all year Arsenal and Stoke at home. Every decent side we played basically beat us and without much fight. At least this year theres no inevitability about it all. Oh and we might win the Cup and at least we qualified for europe all be it the Uefa Cup.

But agree to disagree.

Have seen a few posts on this subject and have to heartily agree that Moyes season was still markedly worse. We were truly awful in every possible way in the league, we achieved literally zero from it.

LVG has had a crap second season, no one sane would argue with that. Moyes oversaw a catastrophe.

Did Lingard when some sort of prize or charity competition? Just wtf has he ever done to warrant even being in our squad next season?

He is the physical incarnation of LVG's reign of malaise.

Pretty much pure conjecture based on assumptions. The only genuine truths we know are that Glazers don't interfere in running of the club, Ed deals with commercial aspects and transfers. And who are these few people on the board interested in themselves? Do you mean Sir Bobby and SAF, 2 ambassadorial figures out of over a dozen directors on the board? I'm sure they have their influence but they would be influential whether or not they're on the board anyway. But all the stories about them blocking this appointment or wanting whoever as manager are as far as we know rumours. How logical is it that the Glazers would allow the running of their prized investment to be dictated by 2 retired ambassadors?

I'm inventing nothing, we spent the money because quite rightly the Glazers were crapping themselves over top 4, and the lucrative sponsorship deals that came with it, short term pain long term gain and all that, LvG staying would be a gamble, but he could easily get us top 4 so job done, no need for Mourinho.

Did we really need to spend excessively on Mata and Di Maria for top 4? Our transfer spendings in the last 3 years is not a spending for top 4. That is the level of spending to win titles, i.e. what City and Chelsea did. And if Glazers are all about bottomline, then why gamble on Martial, Memphis or Shaw? They could easily go the way of Anderson and Phil Jones. If LVG could so easily get us top 4 then why are we not there this season? There seems to be a lot of contradiction in all your presumptions. I suggest you calm down and reconsider them in depth, then make your judgement again.

Good objective post

2nd - 1st - 7th - 4th - 5th - 4th?5th?6th?

250M spent on top of a good squad (not very good, but we can safely asume we had a good squad even during moyes era)

Let that sink for a while.

Too big to fail my arse, we are already a stumbling giant

I'm not a fan of Giroud either, but I was more saying that a lot of clubs still play with a central striker. Being central doesn't mean you are a target man.
I was more saying, put Aguero, Lewandowski, Suarez etc out wider in a front 3 and you'd get half the player. Players like Griezmann and Martial etc are different.

You can also play 4231 but have wingers that like to cut inside, it just requires your 2 CMs to be a lot more aware and ready to protect

By a fluid front 3, I don't mean that the center forward should be able to start and excel in either of the wide areas. I meant that they would preferably have enough movement, ability and pace to pick up the ball the wings to provide fluidity whenever necessary.

Heat maps don't prove shit. I can provide you with heat maps of current Rooney, Benteke and Andy Carroll from particular games that shows them all over the pitch, but that doesn't mean that I would want any of them to start as striker for us next season.

Can Zlatan provide that in an extremely physical and fast paced league as the PL? I have serious doubts about that.

Moyes messed up and didn't address the positions that needed attention. LVG had no other option but to step in and overhaul the current squad.LVG has underperformed but he isn't fully to blame.

"In the future you cannot plan"? What is that even supposed to mean anyway. I appreciate English isnt the guys first language but I cant even understand what he is trying to say there...that planning is simply not a thing?

I think he was just waffling and filling in dead air. But he did say he is still the manager and expects to be here next year b/c of the 3 year deal. I'm not so sure he is definitely out as many are hoping (including me).

Why? Did Moyes damage Welbeck, Rafael, Evans, Hernandez, Nani etc. so badly that he couldn't pick them up from the abyss they had reached and make them contribute for us?

VG had options. Options to augment the squad not gut it so badly that we didn't have enough options. The reason why he reduced the numbers is because he doesn't know how to rotate and get the best out of a squad.

Alright. So looks like we are onto the next level of delusion. Where do we begin? Should we start with how awful rvp, welbeck have been in front of goal. Or the inconsistent performances of nani. I thought it was unanimously agreed that Lvg did a good job of getting rid of the dead weight. But clearly you seem to think otherwise.

Can you not take this argument to a thread relating to Van Gaal? It's way off topic for this thread.

What delusion? RVP has scored 20 goals this season, Hernandez has scored 20+ for Leverkusen & Welbeck has done reasonably well for Arsenal in an injury blighted season. Would Nani have a had a more underwhelming season than Depay? Was Evans a worse defender than Rojo?

May be we should all bury our head in sand. I have heard it works like a charm for Ostriches.

Some of what I said is valid, some is as you said pure conjecture, but so what, I'm not going to go through it point by point for you.

I merely sounding off... a bit of personal therapy for the pain that is Van Gaal.

We have gone through this. Evans was definitely worse than Rojo last season. RvP scored 20+ goals? In the Turkish league. Where mario Gomez is scoring for fun. Same with Nani. Welbeck will never be good enough for us.

All sales made sense.

Taken individually the sales all made sense, just not collectively without adequate replacements.

Evans was basically sold because he isn't left footed. Welbeck and Hernandez should not both have been sold, period.

Evans was not worse than Rojo, RvP can only play against what in front of him, Nani was only just returning to fitness.
