Cleverley was clearly not good enough to play here which is why he was moved on. And by good enough, I don't mean compared to any of our current midfielders, but rather compared with the calibre of players we should be buying.

If Cleverley was here his form would have been affected by Van Gaal's 'philosophy' like everyone else's. Besides Falcao, virtually every player Van Gaal has sold has had an up tick in form at their new club. There are only so many times we can see this and not think Van Gaal is the problem.
Our squad is full of internationals, struggling for third loser and going out of the European Cup with a whimer is not a true reflection of its ability. Van Gaal has shown the ability to destroy even players he bought and previously managed e.g. Memphis and Van Persie. The sooner we get shot of Mr 'Process' the better.
It's the hope that kills us... I've said for months that Zlatan could have a huge positive effect on the team, and with Mourinho this would be amplified.

I've been watching United for a long time and have seen a lot of football. In my opinion I've seen us play some of the most tumescent football I've ever seen and a persistence to stick with systems than don't work. A moderate improvement - largely driven by the brave play of young players isn't, in my opinion, enough to save his job of for me to see his time heras anything other than a failure.

I don't think Bastian has been horrible or something. He does help to solidify the midfield at times. For instance in the FA cup game back west ham we were horrible till he came on and dominated midfield. Obviously he isn't the prime basti which I don't think anyone expected him to be. And we got him for £6m. Not like we had to spend a lot either.

It was a gamble worth taking, and we were clearly harder to beat with him in the team. Bet the stats for games he played the majority of and us losing were quite low. Although clearly from about Feb on he's been out!
What didn't help, was playing another deep player with him, meaning with little threat from the full backs, as well as the centre mids, we were making a huge ask on the front 4, which featured a massively off the pace Depay, a massively off form/way past best Rooney, one paced Mata, leaving Martial to be the sole threat on his own for a fair while.

perhaps i was being slightly over the top, but my point stands. there is nothing to left to defend lvg over. nothing. he failed us as a manager, and side by side, he was only slightly better than moyes. hardly anything to get excited about, and hardly a reason to keep him on for a third season.
Basti was a gamble worth taking, 6m isn't much and at times he has actually played well. It's just that him playing is rare because he is pretty injury prone. That'd be fine if we had good midfield options or if we played some youth there but we don't for some reason because Fellaini, Schneiderlin, Rooney and Herrera have been playing VERY well there.
Bastien would be a totally different force under Mourinho. Managing old heads is basically his forte, whereas it's clearly LVG's biggest weakness, among many.

But to be frank I think he plays better with someone like Schneiderlin because then he will take care of everything like controlling the tempo, passing except having to defend and it helps Morgan not to worry about anything other than cleaning up attacks. What I liked about schweinsteiger is that he seems to be everywhere. Sometimes even in the wings. Plays with a tenacity too. I think if managed well he can easily give us 3 years. Of course injury problems are a concern but if he can stay fit he can be a great leader to guys like fosu mensah and pereira.
