No, he hasn't talked about that, only about the game. But this defeat could make him stay, as he has never won a champion's league...

Well we'll never know. But I feel more confident with 4-4-2, and we might have had more goals cleared off the line with that system!!

15 minutes wasted at the start of the second half didn't help.
The Ole supporters on this site must have cheered when terry venables said to change it at half time, but we had to waste the usual next 15 minutes before we started to change things with the substitutions. It wasn't just Ole, but Veron moved to his best position, Scholes managed to get into the game etc etc.

But we have been much too inconsistent at Old Trafford - it used to be a fortress.

At one point they had Lucio, Ballack and Neuville all limping and Lucio still managed to take the ball off Giggs, outpace him and clear the ball before collapsing again injured. Only Keane had that sort of guts and effort on your side. Two evenly matched sides but they wanted it more.

BTW Blanc was excellent, once again.

we always had a team full of passion before this year tho Liv. Pity we couldnt inject them all with Keanos blood or something.

They had two legitimate chances on goal. Neuville's woodwork shot, and his goal. We had our goal, and two that were cleared off the line. That's 2-3 to us. I have no excuses though. Bayer were the better side over two legs.

the passion was still there, even Juan looked slightly agrieved at times! it was just practically a new team that needs time. give it a season and we'll be formidable again! we did the treble off the back of nowt rememeber...

Who would you say lacks passion?

I wouldn't say they wanted it more (how can one want a european cup final LESS?!), but they were better. As for Silvestre's penalty - there wasn't. I think it was clean and it was out of the box anyway.

That is one of the most stupid remarks in football and is used far too often.
We wanted it just as much - they just had the necessary luck, and played really well in both ties.

Yes, and don't forget we were without Beckham and Gary Neville, that some players were recovering from injury and others had to play out of their usual position.

i think it's the difference between "i wanna go to the Final!" and "i wanna take this team to the Final!" both r converted in2 passion but only one really works in the end!
JSV just has to learn to love us is all! and no i'm not slating him, i think he'll be phenomenal for us, he just needs to get who "us" really is!

Not with this defense we won't.
And not with a midfield that for whatever reasons (Veron, Sir Alex's tactics or whatever, I'm no genious) won't work as well as during the treble season even though they're almost the same players (not hard to spot the odd one out). YES they can still batter the cannon fodder but against decent opposition... sigh. And no matter how good Ruud is, he can't run enough on his own up front to match the movement of Cole and Yorke back then. (Thinking back, it makes me so sad to see where they are now)

i dont think they were any more lucky than us. remember Oles goal in the first game? They just played better than us and had more composure over the 2 legs. They defended bloody brilliantly too.
I wouldnt like to think how many times i cursed at the telly in the 2nd half..one goal was all we needed. Their rightback could barely move because he was carrying a groin strain, Lucio could barely move, Ballack was hobblin, & Placente got a right boot on the head from Lucio...yet still the likes of Giggs couldnt take them on. I honestly think the way giggsy played tonight, he couldnt have gone round a tree.
AND why the feck was Veron playing centre half at the end? AAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHH

What makes you say that? I think he did well for the few minutes he was given. He did more in that time than Giggs in the whole match. Sure you wouldn't say that if Placente hadn't cleared off the line. Now, would you?

Liv its just the way we play.. nesta, stam and samuel would struggle in our team. However, its important we buy a quality CB this summer...

Of course not, the fact that he gets into positions, gets fine shots away on goal but gets every damn one (so far) saved or cleared of the line was the whole point. Seems he's not supposed to score. Some expat City fan witch doctor in the jungle outside Montevideo must have rattled some of his bones on the day the lad signed for us

I don't agree. Yes we play cavalier football. Yes we will have games when we conced sloppy goals. But the defence with Pally and Bruce was pretty solid.

what is the reason why we sold Stam, who here, has looked formidable ?

Ignore the gossip about ghost-written books..Fergie sold Stam because the defence last season was an embarrassment against Real Madrid, and looked even worse in pre-season, in the charity shield, and in the early season games(remember Fulham and Saha !).
We needed to improve, and through signing Blanc we have improved. We haven't gone out tonight because of the defence, but because we haven't managed to get a group of high quality midfield players to work together effectively in a formation which brings out the best in them.

the book. a few players fell out with him, altho' i doubt they wanted him to leave...
pity, coz a blanc and stam partnership could've made the difference.

The sane thing to do in that case would have been to KEEP Jaap and play him AND Blanc. It wasn't as if we needed £16m to buy Blanc. You may choose to ignore gossip about the book, but then you might want to choose to unignore gossip about Fergie noticing the dutch FA had been pumping Jaap full of drugs before Jaap himself did and just wanting to get rid. Whatever, I won't pretend I actually know anything

I don't want to respond to the drugs comment, other than to say that we certainly did seem to want to get rid of Stam quickly. I've thought about your suggestion that a sane manager would have played Stam AND Blanc together ..although I admire them both, do you think that as a combination they may have been slightly lacking in speed ???

If Fergie believed Stam was past his best, then he's done well to get 16m for him. I don't Fergie knew anything about drugs (the manager would know before the player who takes them ?!), he just wanted him out.
The timing was wrong ofcource, but we didn't really look better with Jaap than without him.
Originally posted by Amir:

Yes, because the club doctors who take the tests tell Fergie first and ask him what they should do. About the speed thing, Jaap and Blanc might not have been very suited to each other in that department, but I still think that 'improving' the defense by replacing the best CB (which he was even if his form wasn't the best) instead of getting new blood in instead of someone else doesn't make much sense. But as previously stated I'm no genious.
