I think this might be my favourite transfer ever. I can't believe it's real.

If he can stay fit, I see no reason we couldn't get several great seasons from him; I mean sure he's getting on but having seen the likes of Scholes re-invent their game to extend their longevity I don't see why someone of Schweni's quality could not do something similar.

With the way some of you are talking about him you'd think he's 38 years old and useless. This player last year was one of the best in the world cup and still performing at his best. I don't know where all this negativity is coming from.

Do remember that Scholes was greatly praised as being a very influential player in our system when he was 30 to 36 years old. A midfielder isn't a striker, losing a yard of your pace doesn't effect you that much if you have other attributes to your game.

Exactly. Players like Scholes, Giggs and Pirlo have been able to play at the top level well in to their 30's. We also Have Carrick who has been our best midfielder the past few seasons in his mid 30's.

I think the worst case scenario is that we only get 2 seasons out of him playing at his best but I think we will get more than that. And even if he only does last 2 seasons, who cares? We have only spent £14 million on him and we will buy or develop another World Class midfielder.

Picture of his last race (he won) as a skier with 13/14 - before he decided to transfer to Bayern. His brother skiied in the German skiing team until he was 18 and then started to go for football - that might be the reason he never made it to more than the second league. The guy next to him is Felix Neureuther, today the World's best or second best slalom skier (if you are German he is the best, if you are Austrian he is second best - if you look into the tables he is second).

The guy in front is Alberto Tomba. The race was in Brixen, South Tirol.

Information that you get from the ski camp could be relieable...

That race is still source of a lot of banter...

Interesting that already this young ski racers have a lot of personal advertising on them.

Hah!

Cheers for that info. The guy who told the press that inside info two years ago is Kjetil Jansrud, an Olympic champion. It really didn't create much fuzz back then as noone really believed that the transfer could happen but it's funny to look at his comment in hindsight.

Sky Sports are practically like CNN. They keep showing and saying the same shit regarding one particular topic.

there's a limit to the amount of breaking news available. you won't want a world with bold lines running bottom of the TV every five minutes:nono:

i remember in an interview that he said he thought about a move a few times, and once he was very very close, maybe it was that one time where he could have moved, but stayed in the end.

Since Darmian was revealed at around 8pm yesterday, I'm going to assume Schweinsteiger will get revealed around the same time.

Problem is Darmian was at Carrington for years, Schweini arrived just lately. I dont think he has finished his medical that quickly. If it gets announced, than at 10 or tomorrow.

He's about to turn 31, he's not 36. Technically he should still be at his peak.
He's been a professional footballer at the top of the game for 13 years, he probably has less than half of that over again as a max he could remain there, is what I'm getting at.

It would have been nice to get him at 23, and people will say we only got him because he's getting older, which is the only reason Bayern let him go. I was preparing and argument against this sort of thinking. I'm ecstatic and I think he'll be a huge hit.

Carrick was virtually a one-man midfield at 31, we have far more support in midfield now.

Agree totally. Not to mention, a Schweinsteiger operating at only 50% of his peak level would still compare favourably to Cleverley, Anderson and post-illness Fletcher. He'd be an expensive squaddie in terms of wages but still useful.

Pep's first picture in Bayern's dressing room. None of the players left...

Yeah I think we will be waiting till tomorrow. We all know he is now a United player, but there is something strangely satisfying seeing new signings holding up that shirt.

If he can stay more or less injury free, or at least if we can reduce his injuries to an aceptable level, he will be a huge revelation. His professionalism and attitude is top notch, wants the Euro next year, he will try everything to be in form and be fit for that. It was surely one of the reasons to play regularly here and prove himself, get the last motivation to squeeze everything out of him what has been a bit missing lately. No doubt he will be a huge success in the next years. Cant wait, even if @Blackwidow is clearly jealous that he is a United player now.

I'm not so sure that's true anymore. But that's just my sense of things. So much relies on speed now in the game, top players seem to be younger on average than 20 years ago.
Players play for longer now than in the past. 50 years from now, there will be players playing in their 40's, its the natural result of humans living longer and longer as a species as time goes by.

Er a 50% Schweinsteiger would still be far better than the likes of Cleverley, Anderson and a post illness Fletcher lol.

I'd disagree, there are players around now in the mid 30's still playing at a high level, just as there were 20 years ago. The modern perception seems to be a player is finished by the time they're 30. It isn't accurate.

Top players know they have to adapt to still be at their top in their later years as they age. Obviously they are not going to be as quick as they were when they were 20. They increase their efficiency of their pass, they think a bit more, they are more creative, they do the little things better, their positional sense is better so they can conserve more energy etc. Thats what makes great players great. The little things, the changes they make to adapt themselves as they age.

Darmian arrived at Carrington around 5pm the day before.

Darmian breaks my head a bit.

It conjures up Dolanesque images of you, only they are blank because I don't have a clue what you look like.
