Where's Dad's Army when you need them?
Bastian started to play for Bayern in 2002 when players like Kahn, Lizarazu, Scholl etc. were still playing for Bayern. A year after the CL win. He connects two different Bayern generations with each other and a lot of different times... - and connects different generations of fans. 13 years is a very long time.
Some just think that he might have stayed in a different time with a different system.
And - yes, there is Lahm and Badstuber. But the guys who somehow are seen as Bayern identity with their character and charisma are Schweinsteiger and Müller. Lahm is too "perfect" or flawless to get into the hearts.
All the international stars with flair are ok for a club and the fans and people for sure enjoy them. But - the own guys you follow from the time they are "toddlers in the game" who make it are still something special.
I think losing Schweinsteiger is like Liverpool losing Gerrard, or the void left by Bryan Robson. He's a roy-of-the-rovers type, can do just about anything on the pitch and is a real leader, dragging his team back into games like he did against us a few years back. Everyone loves an all round player who really puts himself about and puts his body on the line.
As my first post in the mains, I just want to say to my favourite player in football right now: Welcome to Manchester Bastian, you are my absolute dream signing.
Weird how it's such a big deal in Germany. Understandable, since he's a legend for club and country, but it seems so strange to see so much coverage of a player moving to us.
I think it is not just about the pitch. Bayern has still a lot of fabulous players there.
But the people really have followed Bastian from the start. The young player that coloured his hair or even his fingernails, was caught in the night by the security when he showed his "cousin" the jacuzzi, did a lot of stupid little things. Hoeneß told that he knew whenever Bastian asked to eat lunch with him that he had to get him out of little trouble with press etc. There were the boyband times with Poldi for Germany and Bayern in the summer fairy tale of 2006. And later the more "adult" version of him. Fans virtually saw him growing up...
He was not always the "great" player - but he show glimpses of it. There were a lot ups and downs. He was too slow for the wings - and then van Gaal came and brought him into midfield and made a restart of his career.
He is the captain of the World Champion...
What would you say his best position is these days? I was thinking he was going to play as the "6" at United, but then I read on some Bayern forum that he doesn't play well there. On the other hand I also read that he doesn't combine well with Alonso with him as "6" and Basti as "8", so I'm a bit confused as to what his best role would be.
I did say it was understandable, it just feels surreal. He is the captain of the World Champion...
It has to do with the way they interpret their position. Both are used to be the boss and command play.
Bastian is good on a 6/8 combined with different players - e.g. van Bommel, Khedira even behind a much more offensive player. He can play the 8 in front of a more defensive 6 like Gustavo or Martinez, too. Alonso just is special somehow because both are the boss...
The company car is a downgrade for him... Before it was a big Audi...
Really does put things into perspective. Should go in the Bluemoon thread too, see if we can get a reactionsaw this on Facebook, as good a place has any to put it.
He's going to London?
Edit: never mind, the plane has done a dog leg
you looking at the wrong airctaft. He's going to London?

I think he has the right one, it's just that the plane did a massive bend as soon as it got close to London.
That planes moving a bit fast... you sure it's accurate

It would be like Rooney leaving us, after having just won the World Cup for England. The media went into a frenzy just at him threatening to leave.

He was over Leicester in about 3 seconds

I think Pep has helped in Bastis decision to leave tbh, just my opinion though
