Of course they can potentially learn a lot from watching him in training every day, as well as getting instructions from him on how to improve their game. Very few/if any of our youngsters are good enough to get more than a few games anyways. He isn't stopping any youngsters from breaking into the first team, at least not this season.

EDIT: Delighted with this signing. From Rooney to Schwein... Who could complain?

Exactly.

This same poster also said that we shouldn't make any signings if the youngsters do well in preseason. Clearly didn't watch Fletcher last year, who looked amazing in preseason.

He also seems to have forgotten that our manager has proven in the past that he'd give youngsters a chance if they good enough. The sad truth is we haven't got many great youngsters coming up in midfield.

Sitting on the bench watching Paul Scholes tearing it apart really helped Pogba developed into a Man United legend IMO.

Bastian will do good for us but let's not pretend that the youngsters will learn more from watching him play than actually gave chances to play.

No, but they will learn alot more from playing alongside him, which they will do.

How to set the tempo, when to slow things down, when to speed it up, when to attack, when to defend etc etc. Read any interview in which players like Keane, Scholes, Viera etc are mentioned and its things like this that players looked up to. Pogba was just a bad egg and we can see that now hes angling for yet another move.

Right now the only player we have who can do all this is Carrick, and Schweinsteiger is even better still.

Whilst I agree, experience done shag all for us in 2011/12 season

This is why people on here hate experience. Just because we played some of our older players when they were washed up (such as Rio), some of us have a negative association with it.

It's like the Falcao transfer. Just because he was a flop everyone on here is a bit nervous about "big names". Experience is vital. You obviously shouldn't rely on it but it's what you need to be a really good team.

He only has to give us two good seasons to prove to be a great buy, IMO. Anything more is just a bonus.

Signing him first also gives us more leverage to sign Schneiderlin.

To be honest if we win the league with him being a vital part of it, it would kind of be worth it. It would mean we are well and truly back.

Each time I imagine him scoring a goal and going crazy I get shivers. Bastian Schweinstiger! Such a dangerous name as well! feck ME!!! how is he ours?!

hope woody will go all out for schneiderlin after this.

bastian, carrick, schneiderlin, herrera, fellaini and blind competing for the 6 places in central midfield. add pereira to the list and we look all good there.

True. People are underestimating the need for quick, short term success at our club. We need to win something soon, we can't keep spending 100m+ every window.

Oh ha ha...Sarcasm at it's best.

We still had Rio, Evra, Giggs etc in the squad those games against Wigan and Everton and we bottled it.

I agree experience is important but, it quite clearly isn't everything.

Remember AC Milan?....Stam, Maldini, Nesta among many others shat themselves against a very poor Liverpool team

So what we bottled it? We lost the premier league on goal difference. Experience is not everything but this current squad scream for experience. It's scary how people will rather have a player of less quality and experience just because he's younger.

We are signing a 31 year old, German central midfielder.

The most non-Fergie signing of all time.

Hopefully no one tells him and risks him getting a stroke

fergie did once sign a much old striker at all

given how did he chase bastian several years ago, i bet fergie would serve him a cup of good red wine in old trafford!

Who are world class "winners" ?

Herrera, Fellaini, Blind, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw, Januzaj, Depay have won nothing in the highest level of football but are all very talented players.

Just the two PLs. No biggie.

Not entirely true. If the German part of it is your point, then you can say that I guess. But, if it's the 31 years old, we did sign Laurent Blanc in defence who was 35!

Well, as I said, experience is important....Don't know why people are washing over me saying that.

I'm just saying it's not everything, as my previous post pointed out.

You need more than experience to win trophies, as our 1995/96 team showed

Btw, I'm not bashing this transfer.....I want it badly

Oh my!! From having no German in out team and then the first one we get in a long time is Schweinsteiger!!

Woody has outdone himself.. Its going to be surreal watching him in our shirt..

Oh what a great signing that was.

Fantastic signing and good for at least 2 years. No problem with adding experience to a midfield. Gutted :(

Bastian Schweinsteiger is an excellent signing for you, but i believe he must be joined by Schneiderlin.

deservedly so

Why? Schweini always talked about playing in a different league and given the fact that he hasn't renewed his contract before the world cup unlike Lahm and Müller (and as I understood there has been an offer) it's not that surprising in my opinion. I thought he would leave after EURO, though. The club (and Pep) repeated several times that the decision is up to Schweini himself - and apparently he'll leave.

I don't blame him, nor the board or Guardiola, to be honest, and transfers aren't done by Pep himself and never will. He's likely going to leave the next summer or the one after that, neither Rummenigge nor Sammer are stupid enough to show the door to a Bayern legend if said legend doesn't want that move.
For what it's worth I don't get at all why Pep is to blame on Schweini's transfer, it's not that he didn't play him when he was fully fit. Shoehorning Alonso and Schweini into the same side was one of his biggest pet peeves last season.

I'm still sad to see him go, though. (Even if it's not officially confirmed yet.) :( Legend.

I will be buying my kid a "Schweini" replica shirt and he'll wear it to every training this coming season to rub it in their noses. Loving this. The locals will be upset.

Let's remember that last season the levels of excitement were even higher when it came to Di Maria and Falcao and we all know how things went on during the season.

Time to rejoin this thread:

probably I'm very very really biased when it comes to Schweinsteiger, a feeling in my head that Pep favors him less than Alonso

Is this really happening then?
I've purposely avoided this thread because the very idea seemed preposterous and smacked of silly season nonsense.
I know he doesn't start as often as he used to but since when do bayern sell their German stars, schweiny is fkin brilliant
Would be an amazing signing but I still don't believe it

Let's remember that last season the levels of excitement were even higher when it came to Di Maria and Falcao and we all know how things went on during the season.

I had similar reservations to Falcao as I do about Schweinsteiger and people reacted exactly the same when I voiced them. Genuine shock and anger that I wasn't keen on buying a famous player just because he was fairly old and had injury problems.

I don't think the later will fail as badly as the former but then again at least that was only a loan (thank god) while this is a permanent signing.

I'm curious as to whether the love people have for this signing is due to them assuming we are buying Schneiderlin as well. Basically, will people be less impressed with this transfer if Schweinsteiger is the only midfielder we buy this summer?

7 years too late, still a nice feeling that we will see the Fußballgott in a United-kit. (I think I must buy a new kit...)

(According to German media the deal is nearly done - the only thing missing is the signature.)
