3 down, 3 to go (Schneiderlin, Otamendi and a striker).

I dunno, I've got a feeling that if this deal is going through, we might not bother with Schneiderlin since LVG will feel that we've got enough depth in midfield. A striker will probably become his priority now that RVP's gone and we look quite light up front.

If we do get both Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger we will have quite a lot of physical players in the lineup. It diminishes the usefulness of Fellaini quite a lot. With Darmian and hopefully Otamendi we will also be adding a lot of physical strength to our back 4.

Valencia and Rojo are stronger than Darmian and Otamendi. :p

Striker and CB will become #1 priority after this transfer. We won't go into a new season with just Rooney as our only 1st team quality striker.

We let English teams play in Germany, 70 years after you bombed the place inside out.
What a stupid comment.

Fantastic man. Brillant job.
On that fine note I will leave you all. Have fun with Basti.

And treat him well or I will hunt you down. :nervous::nono::devil:;)

Facetiousness lost on a German? Why, I never..!

Just seen the article in Bild, this is definitely happening! Who can I speak to around here about getting a name change to Super Schweini? We all need to crack open some German beer to celebrate this news. He's a proven winner and will be a great signing.

Do not do that.

Depay, Mata, Herrera, Di Maria, Schweinsteiger, Carrick - Now that's what an awesome midfield looks like!!!:drool::drool:

Will be nice to see Schneiderlin come in too...

Hererra, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger with Di Maria and Rooney ahead of them, if they can all get their act together this season we could really challenge for the title.

He'd arguably be the best midfielder in the league (can't think of anyone else really, Matic? Carrick?).
Calm down, Matic, Fabregas, probably Yaya, Ramsey too would be in that bracket. Hes still good, but hes no longer the colossus he once was.

Time to rejoin this thread:

 Brilliant, like the Schneiderlin gif
One very slight concern - both players have female bodies:eek:

My friend is having a wedding tomorrow. I can see myself going to the toilet to check the news on my mobile so my wife wont notice I'm on redcafe.
I will drink to Schweini coming to United. And Darmian too!

I'm not comparing him to Giggs, or circumstances to that of Giggs but when anyone mentions the age of a midfielder, especially when that age is 30, you just have to remember Giggs was the best player on the pitch in our last Champions League win at the age of 40. I'm sure Schweinsteiger can give us good service for a few seasons.

So Darmian should be confirmed tomorrow. Hopefully a fee agreement could be done with Bastian tomorrow and maybe a medical + contract signing later tomorrow or Sunday.

It would be amazing to have Darmian and Bastian to fly out on Monday for the tour.

Schneiderlin is a different type of player so I think that if LvG was really into him, he'll go for him anyway. But we have a lot of midfielders at the moment so it's hard to know.

I think it helps that he’s also generally a fairly intelligent player who is quite good technically. I’d be a lot less worried about the signing if he was a player who was largely dependent on pace and workrate, but he’s got plenty of technique and ability, so I think he could have a few years in him at a decent level, providing he doesn’t regress or suffer from too many injury worries.

Do we really though, I mean it took injuries to Carrick and Blind and we had to result to Herrera at CDM and Rooney as CM all the while playing Fellaini at CAM.

Possibly. It’s not that LVG suddenly won’t want Schneiderlin, but more that the addition of a new midfielder who’s hopefully going to be a key player means that signing Schneiderlin perhaps isn’t as pressing as it was before, since we probably needed at least one more midfielder. Now we may have one, getting Schneiderlin may not be a priority, although we’ll see if LVG really wants him or not.

The fee is perfect for what you're getting and as for the wages, I'm pretty sure we were paying the exact same wage to Nani who was playing for another club.

Depends on whether you view Mata and Di Maria as central midfielders or not. I know Van Gaal doesn't like to play them there so maybe we're not overstocked in the central midfield after all.

Duncan Castles: "Question to United fans, how many of you see Schweinsteiger as a starter in the next 2 years."

I’d hope he’d be a starter in two years for us. He’ll be approaching his mid-30’s, so while he’s unlikely to be at his very best, I’d be disappointed if he’s no longer useful at all. I’d hope that he can be a bit like Scholes, in that while he may lose some of the energy he’d have had in his prime, he’ll still have plenty of ability to remain a key midfielder.

It's a really good deal financially speaking. I think people are forgetting we're speaking about Schweinsteiger, a bone fide winner. It's that 30-31yo thing that is so huge on the Caf I think, it's a bit weird.

Yaya and Ramsey are nowhere near Schweini to be honest.

I’d say that Toure’s in a fairly similar bracket to Schweinsteiger when they’re both at their best. Agree on Ramsey though, who’s probably still got a bit more to go until he’s at that sort of level.

Carrick is a few years older and probably the first name on the team sheet when fit.

Fabregas without a doubt, Matic is debatable. Yaya not any more and Ramsey is incredibly overrated due to the amount of important goals he seems to pop up with.

Seems expensive €20m, not too bothered about the wage with Falcao, RVP and Nani gone we can afford another big wage and for a player like him you'll always pay that.

But €20m is steep for a 31 year old midfielder whose contract is running down but I guess I'll have to get used to us getting fleeced over transfer prices.

Ramsey has a long long long way to go before being included in that bracket.
