I have read some comments on a Bayern Forum. It seems that appr. 70 % hate the idea of losing him and 30 % think it is great to get 20 Mio EUR for a nearly 31 years old Player past his Peak.

Not sure with which category to agree.
Given the exchange rate, it works out well for both sides. As for the age, Scholes was 31 in 2005, how key was he for us after that?

But a deep-lying midfielder like Schweinsteiger could quite easily play at a high level into his mid-to-late thirties (ala Pirlo, Scholes, Xavi).

I don't think Xavi and Scholes lasted far into their 30s as top-level players (or players considered as the best in their positions). Pirlo did, though he has done it in a slower and less physically demanding league. But all three at least had outstanding technical games to fall back on despite their withering physiques, thorough experience with the leagues they were playing in and they had better injury records. Schweinsteiger's an intelligent player with a great mentality who has worked under van Gaal before, so I am hoping for maybe two seasons of good level performance- but expecting him to be one of the best midfielders in the world much further than that isn't reasonable. He's already in decline anyway, so even if we sign him it should be considered very short term.

As long as injuries havent crippled him, 30 yrs old is nowhere near past the peak of a good CM/DM

For people worrying about his age, just look at what Pirlo and Scholes did after they were past 30. Similarly Schweini is one of the best and can definitely offer 2-3 good years for us at least. Maybe he is past his prime but is still fantastic.

If he can stay fit he has 4-5 years left in him easily. Zidane went to Real Madrid at 29.

So happy this appears to be happening. Can I please get my name changed to Super Schweinsteiger to celebrate? Would be an amazing signing I just hope it doesn't mean we're missing out on Schneiderlin.

Congrats are in order, it seems. I hope you enjoy him as much as we did. Treat him well. :)

Ive wanted this lad for years, he's been my ultimate fantasy signing for a long, long time. I'm absolutely buzzing at the thought of haing him here, even if he is entering his twightlight years.

For record fee ... It is a good price, when you look at the wages+transfer fee he is probably cheaper then RVP.

No more Rooney in midfield.
On the other side, now Carrick is free to be perma-shifted in defense :wenger:

Now that if we have Schweinsteiger, I say to not sign a defender but get Carrick Schweinsteigered into a CB.

Can't wait to see LvG's huge grin when presenting him (and more importantly him bossing other teams). Get in, lovely and class signing by the club, so excited.

Hope it doesn't mean we give up on Schneiderlin. If we get both and Otamendi/Ramos and a forward we will win PL.

A half fit, declining Bastian Schweinsteiger is still a better option than Fellaini.

Two very different players to be honest, unless we sign Schneiderlin I think LvG plans to split the DM duties between Carrick, Schweinsteiger and Blind. So Fellaini stays in his spot as the support striker.

Van Gaal is bringing the balance.

When it comes to Bayern Bild is mostly spot on.
They would never go so far out on some chance.
He will join you.

Thanks for everything Schweini. You are a real Fussballgott. My first football love.
You have won everything with us. Take the new adventure, enjoy the new league and country.
And come back in a few years. You are Bayern family. Forever. :(:)

I understand you, it's going to be weird not seeing him on the stairs while 'FC Bayern forever number one' is played.

Probably Xhaka. Which will drive me nuts.
We haven't been linked with him for a few years now. I don't have much hope that we're gonna get him.

He can potentially be even better than Schneiderlin.
