Great signings. Now for a tough no nonsense centre half and a no 9. Otamendi and Kane would be nice.

The reaction from Bayern fans on this one is wholly negative. They're fuming that Rummenigge/Pep sanctioned the moved all whilst 33 year old Xabi Alonso stays in place of a club legend. Although in fairness Rummy did say he asked for the move so it's not like it's his fault completely.

To be fair there're a lot of us who understand and respect that this is Schweini's wish and who aren't blaming anyone. It's just that those critics scream the loudest and the media in Germany has been rather Anti-Bayern and Anti-Pep for a long time now. It's still heartbreaking to know that Schweini won't ever play in a Bayern shirt again. :(

The obvious sentimentality of losing a Bayern legend aside, do you think it is bad deal for your club? He is a decent buy for United as it seems we were looking for an experienced winner, but for Bayern, a player who is on the wrong side of 30, in the last year of his contract, not in the managers first thoughts and injury troubled over the past few seasons - I think 20m Euros represents a terrific deal.

@Blackwidow - What do you think?

I can't wait for this to be announced! It will be so weird to see him in a United top. Weird in a good way. :D

Bastian fecking Schweinsteiger!

I think guardiola needs to win the sextuple next season to make the fans happy. After being humiliated by barca and Madrid(madrid being as defending champions), their doctor bust up, selling Kroos (not sure guardiola can be fully blamed for that in fairness), they probably are disillusioned by him.

Selling Kroos was not Guardiola... and he did not matter to the stadium fans.

While that might be the case, I don't know how extreme Bayern fans are, that would be absurd. He's doing well there.

Depends on your view of doing well. Yes hes won the league. Otherwise though, in the last 3 seasons:

Less points year on year
Less progression in the domestic cup year on year
Less progression in the European Cup year on year
Sold the best German youngster they had
Sold Mr. Bayern Munich
Brought in a Spanish core
Fallen out with the long standing medical team and dragged them through the press

Its not hard to see why they might not be happy with him, especially considering the situation he inherited.

He wasn't going to follow a treble up with a treble. He's taken an odd job really. Where winning the league isn't the hardest but failing to win the Cl can't be considered a failure. Either way, they can have their own reasons for not liking him based on the above reasons, but he's doing fine there.

Also, needing to multiple trophies in one season to ward off a sacking is absurd.

Yeah, people tend to often forget how crucial "luck and injuries" are i.t.o. progressing through the UCL.

No team has retained the UCL yet, and there's good reason for that. Last season they faced a Barca team who is near impossible to stop, without some of their very best players - Ribery, Robben and a few others. It was an already difficult task, made impossible by injury.

So yeah, Pep's brought it on himself though. He's taken a job where "winning the league" is almost the bare minumum, and success can only be achieved through winning multiple trophies each season.

I'd never expected this deal to go through but had some kind of hope with LVG on our side.

It's not the performances so much. i think their fans may seem to oppose the way he has changed the team as a whole. The way they don't dominate in Europe would probably be an issue. They lost away in both the round of 16 and the QF stages to what can be considered minnows. They dont appear to me that they are the force they were a couple of years back. At least not at the same level as barca and Madrid. as I'm a German national team fan, I have a soft spot for bayern and I don't think bayern Are as scary as they were a couple of years back

I don't really understand the hate Pep's getting at Bayern.

Prior to him joining they were pretty much juggling between missing out on Champions league football and getting schooled by Dortmund on the domestic front, with the odd triumph. Granted Heynckes's treble in his final season was pretty magical stuff but trebles are once in a life-time achievements for most top clubs.

The fact that Pep has them consistently winning titles in record time, while still being relatively competitive in the champions league is no mean feat. This whole notion of him gutting the soul of Bayern by selling some of their homegrown lads has been blown way out of proportion.

I'll be honest, I didnt think this deal would ever happen. :)

By now you'd think people would think before saying rubbish like 'never going to happen'. Skepticism is fine, but completely ruling out a transfer unless it's Lionel Messi, is madness.

I will now for the future now. With Woody everything is possible. :)

Its an impossible job, but there is no counter argument to them having gone backwards in performances as well as trophies.

Personally, I think he's too pre occupied with putting his own stamp on them.

First RVP, then Mata, now Bastian... United are making a lovely habbit of buying my favourite players who don't play for United.

Hard to say, actually. I agree with you that €20m is a good deal for Bayern considering his age and the contract status, but we are still losing Bastian Schweinsteiger. While we played well without him in the first half of last season I rate a fully fit Schweinsteiger above a fully fit Alonso and Alonso has been great in his first games for Bayern.

On the other hand the age of our squad is a concern and Schweini leaving means that our youngsters will most likely be given a chance (if we don't sign another proven midfielder) and that's a good thing in my books. Our midfield is packed with the likes of Alonso, Lahm, Alaba, Martinez, Rode and Thiago; and we just signed Kimmich to compete with Hojberg and Gaudino. I think we will be more or less alright without him from the sporting site of view.

It's his leadership and him as a person that will be missed, imo. There are a lot of comments from his teammates that Schweini was the one who helped them settle in, most recently Thiago saying that he always talked to him during his injury, encouraging him, etc. Watching the training session videos on Youtube you could always hear him laughing and joking with his teammates and I don't think anyone can argue against the fact how important he is when it comes to leadership on the pitch. It's not just about losing a great midfielder.

He sounds like a really great guy overall.

There's no need for a counter argument. The margins are too slim and you can't win everything every ever.

Does he speak Spanish?
