Now imagine if Bayern had to bid for Rooney this summer, offering him a 5 year contract on a higher salary then he’s currently got. He would, most certainly leave. Its a win win situation for both club and player. Rooney would leave with his reputation at the club almost intact and for a club that still believe he can edge it at first team level. United would avoid having to pay for a player whom they believe is on the wane and are keeping him here out of respect. If it doesn't work out, well, Rooney owes nothing to Bayern and has nothing to prove to anybody. He can stay put and enjoy his retirement with Bayern paying him what they owe him.

Sometimes the transfer is so big (think about Mou or Griezmann) that the club can hardly contain it and rumours start spreading out on the press. Sure things can change very quickly. People within my local supporters club can testify that SAF made it obvious with them that both Gazza and Shearer were in the bag. However usually when top clubs like United are involved, things do go according to plan.

People within the club would know about what is going on, weeks if not months before it actually happened, especially guys like Rooney who had been around for years and who would be directly impacted by the deals in place. Its only fair for these players to be told what the club is planning so that they can think about it and make plans. We're talking about human beings here. Some might be happy to remain at the club as reserves others might have some pride left in them and would want to leave.

I'm a big Schweinsteiger fan but what i saw yesterday was quite shocking. To be fair, i only saw the first 25 minutes and some posters pointed out that he got way better afterwards. So i'm only commenting on the part i saw.
But what i saw didn't look like someone giving a feck and that can't really be explained with him getting so few minutes this season.
All he did was walking around, he simply looked like he couldn't be arsed to run at least a bit. He didn't even try to get into a position where he could be a passing option, if anything he did the opposite. He hid behind opposition players so that he was impossible to pass to.
In all the years he was at Bayern, i've never seen him move so little.

BFS wasn't mobile throughout the match, that aspect barely improved.

What did improve was his positioning to become available normally, as well as being able to move the ball quickly out of tricky situations with accurate one-touch passes and in general making use of the ball better than Fellaini and Mata.

Later he also chipped in with two pieces of quality to secure the goal and assist.

He very much played like a Carrick, but with better forward plays.

Who knows how his behavior was during his first season, Rooney seems to love him but there have been lots of reports of some players being unhappy with him.

What we do know is that his attitude this season has been second to none, he's such a winner & believes in himself; I'm absolutely certain he always thought "I've prove you wrong". It's taken nearly 6 months of hard work and good attitude but he now might just get more opportunities to prove Jose wrong. I'm sure no one would like that more than the manager himself.

If he was just in it for the money he would have put zero effort in with the reserves, he would have stopped bigging up the club on social media etc. Instead he has worked hard, shown a great attitude and has amazingly worked his way back into the manager's plans even if just as a bit part player at this point.

If anything football fans should respect that kind of reaction/attitude from a World Cup winning captain that has nothing to prove.

Well Hull is a premier league side who will, most probably, end up in division 1 next season. Wigan is a 1st division side who will, most probably, end up in division 2 next season. Its really like comparing Chelsea with Brighton/Newcastle here

So glad this story turned this direction. I've been a BFS fan for a long time and was so pumped when he came over. I did watch him jog/walk around earlier this year which made me believe he may have lost "it" a bit and didn't get to SEE the game yesterday as I was traveling... listened on the radio though... and so happy for his assist and the sweet finish he made.

Don't know about his work rate. Need to watch a replay of that but to secure any meaningful minutes for the club in the 2nd half this season, he'll need to be willing to work like Herrera.

He started after a hell of a long time, looked rusty initially, improved as the game went on and actually played well. Now he is a useful option to have as backup to our regular trio of Herrera, Pogba & Carrick. He will come in handy in the games to come.

We should be feckin' pleased that he played well given that an injury to one of the aforementioned three would have been disastrous.

I'll be very comfortable with rotating with Carrick.

One important assist, and a spectacular goal. He's getting better for the rest of the game. Would be my MotM if only Mikhytarian wasn't in god mode. I think this is his best game under United shirt, where his control and impact of the game really shine.
