They need to....or else 0-2 down on the road to Fenway is not going to be a stroll....amazing how confident you were last night.....I stayed up and watched some of the game.....hey that Wakefield throws a damn good knuckleball...dontya think !! :D

Let's hope Pettitte chokes !!

The Yankees certainly showed their form last night, Pettitte was great - again, and they were hitting Boston all over the ballpark. I can see the Yankees winning both games in Fenway this weekend and giving Boston a real mountain to climb

that would be some World series.. wouldn't mind seeing Yankees take it this year though.. Torre deserves it.. he's gotten so much shit this year...

did you hear about the story about the journo who wrote that he believed the Yankee janitor can do a better job than Torre in the post season? that's whack.

That was in USA Today. Coincidentally, the author is said to be a close friend of Steinbrenner's.

but didn't steinbrenner come out to strongly defend Torre?

in any case, i do think Torre's job is on the line, as it has been the case over the past couple of years..

the Yankees are like Real Madrid.. a winning coach isn't enough for the team.. it needs a Champion coach who can win trophies EVERY fecking year.. i'm quite surprised the board have stuck with Torre for this long.. considering the differences between Torre and Steinbrenner.. but he is a great coach IMO.. he deserves this year's World Series to prove his doubters wrong..

I believe it's Clemens v Martinez at Fenway saturday. Now,that's an interesting game !! Glad it's a 4pm ET start because I'll watch it live in the UK. You Mancs and Yankee fans have a lot in common.....overbearing arrogance which may not be matched on the pitch....let's hope so :D

GO REDSOX !!!!!!!!!!!

Steinbrenner plays a lot of games. It would not be beyond him to leak something bad about somebody to the papers and then publicly defend that person. He's still a great owner though. He even cried when the Yankees beat Boston IN JULY!!

Torre will most likely be back. But if the Yanks don't win, George will make his life miserable and Torre might not stand for that. You are right in that George expects to win every year.

Would you please stop lumping the Man Utd and Yankee fans together, you Cockney twit. If you want to be a Gooner and a baseball fan, at least pick a rounders team that's won a series since the Kaiser abdicated. And don't give me any crap about visiting Fenway and therefore having to be a Blosox fan. With proper therapy, you should be able to support a good baseball team.

Is Game 3 really a 4pm ET start? That sucks because OU/Texas, the best rivalry in college football, kicks off at 3:30 ET. Damn...but my allegiance is to Texas, so I know where my tv will be tuned.

At least you'll be near a television. I have obligations on the kids playing sports weekend routine, so it's time to buy new C cells for the portable radio.

With all due respect my american confrere.......I assume you must be an Oaklands fan and your baseball affections are so afflicted ??

As for me,I'm stuck with the Redsox....and because I have such good friends in Cape Cod from so many years of visiting,I want them to win asd well....almost the same as I did when the Patriots won the Superbowl recently, with the only difference that I don't really have much time for NFL....but I do like baseball.......GO REDSOX !!!!!

I have been a fan of the New York Yankees since about the time of the 1957 Series. The mere fact that I now live in California will never change my allegience for my chosen sports teams. My feelings about the RedSux are those of any follower of the Bronx Bombers--seeing the Fenway Failures lose brings me almost as much pleasure as seeing the Yanks win.

Either that, or it will be the end of the curse of the the "billy goat" (but that's only superstition. Personally, I'll be glad when all of this Cub madness is over with and the White Sox strengthen their club and do a much better job next season. Maybe not lose 7 to Detroit or whatever the number was.

What are the odds on a Sox-Cubs World Series?

Considering the former haven't won the WS since 1918 and the latter are doing even better (/worse) not having won since 1908 it should make for an interesting showpiece, but at least neither would be intimidated by their opponents winning pedigree ;)

So this tells me there is coverage of the sport in the UK? The other response i got was the english dont care about the sport; but from the Man Utd games i have seen i spotted a fan in the crowd wearing a Yankees Cap.

yankees lead 4-2 going into bottom of the 4th.

Can I just say Pedro Martinez is a cnut? trying to hit Garcia with a cheap throw like that. he should have been thrown out no doubt about it.

Holy Crap! IS ANYONE WATCHING THIS?

This is the by far the ugliest incident i've ever seen in a baseball game - let alone this being a friggin play off!

Pedro Martinez just threw Don - a 72 year old coach - down on the ground! that's whack!!!!

I used to respect Pedro, now I think he's a cnut and has no class. I'm surprised none of the Yankee players went after him after he slammed Zimmer down. Probably because Pedro hid behind his teammates like the pussy he is and no Yankee could get to him. I sure hope the AL eliminates the DH someday...then pitchers will have to bat in the AL. If Pedro pitched in the NL, the opposing team would just plunk him during his next at bat.

BTW, Manny is a coward too. First off, that pitch was nowhere near his head and if Clemens wanted to hit him or send a message, he would have nailed Manny in the side, back, or leg. Secondly, instead of yapping at Clemens, show some balls and go to the mound. You see, just like Piazza and the others who claim Clemens hits guys intentionally (and he does on occassion, I'll admit that), they are scared to stand toe to toe with him near the mound. Everytime a pitcher throws inside, the batter assumes he's being thrown at...which is bullshit. Just the steriod rage I guess.

Wow...during the middle of the ninth, some lunatic jumped in the Yankees bullpen and attacked Jeff Nelson. The guy was a good sized dude, and it appears Karim Garcia injured his hand during the fracas. Posada sprinted from the plate to the bullpen, FOX reported. fecking no class fans and players...no wonder Gillespie supports Boston...reminds him of Arsenal. (just playin' G)

1. The pitch didn't even hit Garcia.
2. He then acted like a cnut sliding into second.
3. He then acted like a cnut and hurt himself trying to knock out the groundscrew guy.
4. Zimmer was asking for it and swung first.
5. And yes, I am a scumbag Red Sox gloryfan.

Pedro is the balls man. Cabrones.

1. If pitchers batted they would NOT get hit under any circumstances; why cause they cant hit the ball so you take the automatic out. Look at the National League, pitchers are not getting thrown at. You always hit the best hitter in the lineup to send a message. In this case garcia got a basehit already and soriano hasnt gotten a basehit in about a month so you pitch to him. I am sick of the talking media heads making this arguement its so ridiculous.

2. Pedro has always been a bum ever since the comment about digging up Babe Ruth and he would plunk the Babe in the ass. Interesting how pedro went on a losing streak after that. THe CURSE lives.

3. Manny is a bum too. Bottom line: he was scared and didnt want to be in the batters box. THe guy is a good hitter and the last swing was so bad.

4. Don zimmer was hit in the head once and in a coma for a week; so when that bum pedro pointed at his head and then pointed at a yankee he got pissed off. He went after pedro but pedro should of dodged him instead of throwing him to the ground.

5. THe incident in the bullpen: A groundscrew guy was cheering for the sox, waving a towel, in the yankees bullpen and nelson got pissed off and approached him and the rest is history. I heard nelson isnt such a stand up guy so he probably started it.

WELL i am a diehard yankee fan and that WIN was great even thou I wanted someone to go yard on Pedro so bad but pedro got into a groove. I remember when tino martinez got plunked by armando benitez and the next batter bernie williams went yard and talked shit the whole trot around the bases. it was great.
Yankees beat Boston's best pitcher and they are looking good. ANything can happen thou. Go YANKEES

BTW did anyone see ben and J Lo at the game? Jenny from the block wasnt sporting any Yankee gear and ben was cryin about his SOX

feck.. today's game got cancelled. I was so hoping they'd pick up the feud where it was left off.. now they would have had 2 days to calm down.

But I still think it's a WAR. Make no mistake about it.

Pedro Martinez is a cnut. Make no mistake about that either.

I knew that you'd have posted in here after last night!

I watched most of the game last night, and it's okay the pitcher for the RedSux is so difficult to predict but he's out of the way now and this afternoon it will be a different matter. I definitely think that the Yankees will win this afternoon at Fenway, and then again tomorrow in The Bronx to wrap up the series and go to The World Series - they are just toying with the Sux and then they'll break your hearts

We'll see.........

3-0 Yankees winning. Top of third inning. :D

Pedro throwing at a batter's head; Beating on a 72 year-old senior citizen; Manny carrying a bat out out towards the mound - Maybe the Red Sox rallying cry should be "Cowgirl up."

Everybody knows that Pedro and Manny have no class, but I thought that the fans would show some. I guess all the frustration has caused them to lose perspective. To be fair, Nelson's the same. Most Yankee fans would at least admit that.

Mariano comes in the game and its over.Yankees beat the Red Sox like they ALWAYS do.This will be over tomorrow.
The Cubs will win tonight and go to the Series for the first time since 1945.
BTY - Redinsyd,I have lived in both NYC and Liverpoll so there. :p

the guy who tried to catch that ball in the 8th inning can start looking for a new identity ... NOW

alou wouldve had it

Jens, you're from Germany and you dig baseball!?! Is that an odd thing or am I making too big a deal out of it? You a Cubs fan?

I bet that guy (fan who obstructed the game) gets his ass beat, if it isn't already. Alex Gonzalez made a stupid error as well. The curse of the billy goat continues! Being a White Sox fan, that is not such a bad thing...

I understand the rules and couldn´t really sleep last night. The game was the best thing on the telly so I watched it. The season is too long for me to really get into it but you have to love playoff baseball. Don´t really have a team I follow in baseball.

The doubleheader is on the telly here tonight and I think I´ll watch it.

The guy got a police escort from the stadium but his face was on the telly quite a couple of times and I reckon there´ll be a pic of him in every major newspaper in the Chicago area. Poor lad. I reckon moving to Florida will be his only option now. :D

Wonder if the Marlins are gonna invite him to a World Series game if they win tonight. :D
