Barthez to be axed?

'Fabien Barthez could be on his way out of Old Trafford this summer if United boss Sir Alex Ferguson can tempt Sunderland to part with Danish keeper Thomas Sorensen.
Fergie will have no problem matching the £8m fee the Wearsiders are likely to demand, claim the Daily Express.

France and Juventus star Lilian Thuram could also be Old Trafford bound. He's unhappy at being forced to play right back and £10m is his asking price.'
 
Apparently Riise is using his stint at LFC to jump to a bigger club (Barca, Real etc).

Liverpool have a keeper who will shut out Derby County but in the CL quater finals he will let in 4.

as for the reliability of the source, i'm not saying it's gospel or anything like that...i just thought you guys on here might be slightly interested in and want to discuss it, that's all.

The newspapers got it into their big-headlined heads that United would sell Barthez when he made a few mistakes early on. His 2002 form has put him back in the top line of goalkeepers in the world, but 'sorry, we made a mistake, Barthez isnt' actually going anyway' doesn't sell much papers ;)

Sorensen in a good keeper, but he's not in Barthez's class.
 
I actually think Dudek is a quality keeper - just has problems with shots straight at him....Barthez had a couple of mares too....so what? We'll win something this year and you won't. Niiiiiiiiiiice ;)

I think you'll beat BL but the final against either spanish side is anyone's game...should be a cracker though i hope.

Theyre top quality and will severly test your ropey back line, as they did when they scored 3 at OT in recent years.

Against the considerable threat of Morientes, Raul, Guti, Figo, Zidane, Roberto Carlos etc...dya fancy your defence to be strong enough?

We'll win the CL. We're hitting form at just the right time and the results since the injuries to Beckham and Keane have been encouraging to say the least and achieved playing good football - football that both Real and Barca will have trouble coping with.

I think the Prem is going to North London to be honest. Therefore I don't have any concerns on this front.

Concerns on the CL front? Well it's a Cup competition where anything can happen but I'm confident.

Against the considerable threat of RVN, Solskjaer, Veron, Giggs, Scholes, Silvestre, etc, do they fancy their defence to be strong enough?

Finals are anyone's game. If we get there and play Real I suppose the Spaniards would be considered favourites... But I don't believe that tag will make much difference.

Why not? He's stable defensively and he's contribued well to our attack. He's not Roberto Carlos but I don't think he's as far off as you think. Nevertheless, he is capable of setting up a goal against the best (unless Deportivo, Arsenal, Leeds and Newcastle aren't good enough).

If I need to spell it out for you: I wouldn't expect us to completey hold out fort and keep a clean sheet, but I wouldn't expect them to be able to do the same.

I certainly don't expect us to fall apart and get blown out. And I will certainly not talk about a United - Real final again until and if such a thing becomes a reality.
