Barcelona: Charged with corruption .... again!

Reports that they’re looking to sign Luk De Jong!!!

Braithwaite- De Jong from Messi- Griezeman

Barcelona are doing what they need to do, a step back this year to give 2 forward next year. With griezzman or without him Barcelona would have difficulty winning titles, the qualification for the champions will also get it.
This year Barcelona will save a lot of money in salaries.

Messi €100M+
Griezzman 40
Piqué, Busques, Alba, S.Roberto y Dembele will lower their salary a lot

What's Barca's front line at the moment?

Depay, Brathwaite, Aguero, Fati, Dembele and maybe De jong?

That's fecking garbage. Aguero and Dembele are permacrocks..
Think Barca has written off this season already. They moved Messi and AG out of their wage bills, generated about 100m from sales.

They might have one more window like this and they will spend big I guess.

If it's an obligation to buy then they've done alright.
They absolutely needed to get his insane wages off the books whatever the cost.
It genuinely wouldn't surprise me if Braithwaite out performs Griezmann this season also

Could they possibly miss out on top 4 this season? I don’t know what the rest of the strength of La Liga is like as don’t really watch it.

They are a gigantic shambles off the pitch that we all know about. The squad they have assembled just doesn’t fill me with much confidence that they will pose a threat.

Would any team with Koeman at the helm fill you with confidence?

„You guys cut your salaries so we can sign Luuk de Jong“ must go down well in the dressing room.

No. For all the doom and gloom the team is still quality. Ter Stegen, Dest, Araujo, Pique, Alba, Busquets, De Jong, Pedri, Coutinho, Memphis, Ansu Fati

That's nothing to sneeze at. Koeman's not great, but i don't trust valencia to finish ahead of them. Quality of the league is basically take the PL and shift everyone down a position or two

I agree with your take, they still have too much quality and Sevilla/Valencia/et al are not all that. I don’t see Barca coming in lower than 3rd or 4th.

Well yes and no, if they can keep everyone fit and they play to a level that they can then yes, they'll have enough.

However, the season is a long one and their depth is shot to pieces. Additionally, Fati hasn't played for the best part of a year and will need to be eased back, Pedri has been played into the ground, Coutinho has been hit and miss ever since he left the Dippers (I would argue his whole career bar 18 months.) Then you have Pique and Busquets who aren't what they were.

In my opinion, the team will get 4th (Real, AM and Sevilla I think will be better/more consistent) however one or two bad injuries and the wheels could come off. If they miss out on CL qualification for next season, I hate to think what that would do to their wage bill/income dynamics.

They are finished for the next 3 or so years. Nowhere near contending for La Liga or the CL. That Neymar transfer completely ruined them.

If De Jong wasn't on such ridiculous wages, I'd throw everything at him next summer.

If Barcelona have a terrible season (looking likely at this point) and their finances continue to be what they are, I would love to see us try to go after Frenkie De Jong. It'd be a long shot but he'd be a dream signing for us.

He'd be my dream midfield signing.

His wages are a problem though. If Pogba leaves, I'd do whatever it took to try and pry De Jong from them.

I'm assuming 3rd. That first XI looks solid enough and Luuk de Jong, Aguero, Dembele, Brathwaite, Sergi Roberto, Pjanic, Mingueza, Eric Garcia and Lenglet is a bench that looks far better on paper than it likely will be in reality, but it's got enough quality that if 2 of the 4 attackers can put together decent seasons, 1 one of the 2 center mids and one of the defenders they should be fine.

Not sure Koeman would be my coach for this squad, though.

Getting rid of Griezmann is huge for them, it was an absolutely insane salary for what he was contributing. What a spectacular downfall this has been to witness. Bartomeu should have a statue built in his honor somewhere in Madrid.

Utter madness, if you actually appointed someone with an intent to sabotage the club on purpose he could've hardly done a better job than Bartomeu.

Laporta did a solid job shedding salary and now plenty of remaining players are taking sizeable reductions in salary

He'd probably be the last person they let go of, I would have said Fati before but after his botched surgeries etc, who knows where he will end up?
Perhaps but if a player can be tempted to want out, anything is possible. Barca are in a steep decline at the moment.

Exactly. Wage reductions + sending a message to the youngsters with Ilaix + getting rid of the insane wages (Griezmann in particular, who has been a cold failure in both 19-20 and 20-21).

Luuk de Jong won't be worse than Griezmann.

I see some armchair managers are already predicting another "disastrous" season for Barça, but this is actually a younger and more balanced squad than 20-21; and no overpaid primadonnas left.

Laporta will try to sign Haaland and or De Ligt for 22-23.

And he’ll get neither.

We've got +100M this transfer window, we kept our midfield with two great young players evolving, we're better on defense and we might even not miss Griezmann if Depay keeps performing at his current level (and I'm probably one of the biggest Griezmann fans in the barcelona fanbase), we also shed what, 200M on wages?

The only negative thing from this window is losing Messi, but objectively we should've lost it a year ago, or we would lose him in 2 years.

In an ideal world we would've offloaded Coutinho, Pjanic and Umtiti but Bartomeu made sure we'd never be able to do so with their contracts, if we don't think on science-fiction terms we had a great window all things considered.

We are ruining his buddy here, now we want to ruin another player of the same mold.

Not sure why they're making their rivals stronger with that Griezmann deal.

Because Griezmann was only going to leave his salary for Atletico, any other team it wouldn't have been possible to make a deal with where Griezmann lets go of his astronomical wage.

Not sure why they're making their rivals stronger with that Griezmann deal.

Surely because their finances are a mess and they found one club who would take Griezmann's wages off them and they couldn't be picky about who that club was?

A bit like Leeds and their fire sale when they sold us Smith.

We were on a worse situation in 2004, look at some of Laporta's signings in the 3 seasons leading to the 2006 UCL title.

Marquez - 6M
Rustu - Free
Gio Van Bronckhorst - loan, then free
Larsson - Free
Albertini - Free
Sylvinho - 1.5M
Edmilson - 8M
Giuly - 8M
van Bommel - Free
Ezquerro - Free

Marquez, Gio, Larsson, Sylvinho, Edmilson, Giuly and van Bommel were key parts of our squad for years, their combined cost was 24M, for that same money Chelsea got Damien Duff. This is just things returning to normal after the Bartomeu circus spending 820M in three seasons.

Funny thing is they didn't even elect Barto. He was the right hand man who took the position when Sandro rossell got jailed for being a crook.

Now I believe Barto is dealing with the same issues and is being investigated and as been to jail himself.

Thats 2004. The world has changed and sign on bonuses are now as expensive as transfers if you’re a free player…

Is there an explanation somewhere that explains why Barcelona was fine last season and couldn't field players this season? (if so, could you point me to it)
