Barcelona: Charged with corruption .... again!

You guys must have a private forum somewhere where you are laughing your ass off about trolling us with this Beckham thing i swear. I see no other explanation, you cant possibly believe this.

"Messi's fame doesnt come close to Beckham on his peak". This thread is getting as funny as the "Rashford vs Mbappe" thread a couple of years ago

if you look at google trends the data is very conclusive in Beckham's favour

https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&q=lionel messi,david beckham

I guess we can put this debate to bed now

There is no contest today on a global scale over who is more famous.

I teach English in South America and we often use celeb photos to train certain basic questions. Anyone under 30 has no idea who Beckham is unless they are major football fans. Everyone knows Messi even if they have never watched a game.

People on here are underestimating global appeal and young demographics.

Not to mention, that if you are old enough to know who Beckham is, most likely you also know who Messi is. The opposite doesnt apply.

*Says "Messi's fame doesnt come close to Beckham's on his career"

*Posts a graph showing Messi's google searches this year being higher than Beckham ever achieved, and beating him consistently on searches since he became the superstar he is now.

the cognitive dissonance is real

Not that this link means much, but are you sure you know how to read graphs?

Thread: “Barcelona on the brink”

Caf: Beckham is way more popular than Messi.
The discussion about that did become quite long now, but the question "how much marketing potential have Barca lost due to Messi leaving" is definitely a valid point to discuss in the context of this thread.

How poor is the Barca squad now withot Messi (and Suarez from year before). E.g. If we were to draw Barca in the Champions League, would now we be favourites?

they still have a lot of great players to be fair

I don't think it would be far off even, but I'd fancy us to win

April 2004 vs August 2021 are their peaks, and Messi's is higher. At the end of the day, peak vs peak, current vs current, doesnt matter, Messi's higher.

Btw this whole thing started because someone stated that Beckham was more recognizeable today than Messi. Thats clearly not the truth.

Maybe this website is somehow bugged, but if not, no.

Are you looking at the interest over time graph? Because all I'm seeing there is that the red line's peak is higher than the blue's.

Yeah, it shows me a 100 for Messi on August 2021, as opposed to Beckham's 96 on April 2004.

Still, closer than i thought.

I'm getting a 100 for Beckham on 1 Jan 2004 and Messi never peaks above about 50

it doesn't really matter anyway, does it?

look at the averages

sure Messi wasn't around for a couple of years of that graph, but Beckham is retired for more than half

And just by looking at the damn thing you can clearly see Becks was way more popular during his career, and as was originally stated it's not even close

and the only reason Messi was popular in searches this year (a massive outlier in his career) was because Barca were in turmoil and he finally left the club

That's what I thought but apparently it's displaying differently for @VanKenny

nah, that is just one spike this year which I see as well, but it says values for that point have incomplete data

the rest of the graph still clearly favours Becks

anyway who gives a shit, wish I never posted the damn thing now

Dunno why mods letting them go wild and its so far away from the OP, fecking weirdos, how the feck it even came to Beckham vs Messi in Barca being in shitters thread.

Agreed with that bit, but it’s just funny to bring Beckham into the discussion because it doesn’t really prove or disprove any points.

With Dembele and Fati perennially injured and Aguero not registered, it don't hurt to try him on the other side of Grizzy behind Depay.
Rumour is that they have to pay another 20m to Liverpool if he plays another dozen or so games.

Beckham vs Messi's popularity debate is hilarious .

Both are supremely well known people around the world.

The only thing we're Beckham has an edge is, he is still very much relevant in public life due to his media and PR acumen. While Messi unless he takes up coaching job or talks bullshit like Pele after retirement, the general public may not remember him.

That’s mental.

Just got to laugh at how awful a situation they find themselves in.

What’s even funnier though is that Coutinhos best game since leaving Liverpool, for Barca was probably in the 8-2, against them a year ago!

Haha - which only goes to show how Becks' popularity was all too fleeting. 20 years from now, I guarantee everyone will remember who Messi was.

Put in better search terms, Messi blows away Beckham:

What honestly happened to Coutinho? I know there’s no best position for him in Barca’s system but he’s basically gone into semi-retirement. Just lazy?

Okay, Messi wins. Lets move on
I am all for nepotism and supporting your players but sometimes this place goes full RAWK. There is virtually no metric (short of perhaps how many teenage girls got wet over a player) where Beckham has anything on Messi.
