From a pure football point of view, I think that Messi leaving is a blessing in disguise. No team can afford to have a superstar player in their side these days. The best teams really need 11 players working for each other. Especially when the team is as mediocre as Barca is.
But La Liga has gone to shit. Of course you can point to PSG, but I'd like to know the odds for all English teams in all the Euro finals next year.
Sure, long term it will help them although I'm not sure how long he could remain playing for them, 2 or 3 years? One way or another this was inevitable and at least last year they could sold him. Still this forces them to start the rebuild the club post-Messi, it is in pretty bad shape in terms of finances and their squad while having plenty of talent it's still very unbalanced.
By losing Messi one would hope someone like Griezmann should step up his game, he no longer will have the excuse of being played out of position (although he still overlaps with other players) and now they're obligued to play more like a team instead of depending on Messi to carry the whole attack.
