Barca trying to terminate the contracts of Umtiti and Pjanic

Said before and I’ll say again - I believe they can be bullied into selling Frenkie. And I’d love Woody to do the bullying.

Problem is how can they sell them ? Most of them are on big contracts, they won’t want a pay cut. And those who aren’t on a big contract are probably not the one you would sell for the future of the club.
They are fecked.

Clubs will buy Pedri, will be a queue. Griezmann will be tougher due to his wages, can give him a lump sum as part of the transfer and a normal contract at his new club. Ter Stegen would get bid too. Few others like de Jong can also easily be sold.

Presumably they're only allowed to register players up to €347m, (compared to 671m last year). So they have to cut or will be paying players they can't field on the pitch.

They're in fantasy land if they think Umtiti etc will be easy to shift even for free.

Joke of a club.

All to please one player. It Says alot about that player too.

Why are people criticising Messi for knowing his value? No one is forcing the Barca board to actually meet his demands and they have made the decision that he is worth it.
He should be on the highest wage in the world for his value for sure, but if he wants to play for a certain club, and more importantly win with a certain club then he needs to made accommodations as well, otherwise he would be off to china or russia or suadi.

Its not a direct comparison because of differences in wage structures in the sports but, in basketball The best players in the world who can take max contracts sometimes will lower their demands in order to facilitate the team being able to put better players around them and have a better chance of winning. If messi wants to continue winning, he needs to understand the environment he's currently in. what's the point of being paid a million pounds a week at barcelona, if you have to play with absolute dross because all your mates have been sacked due to your wage demands? If you only care about money feck off elsewhere and earn more.

Yep! Not to mention the zero leverage they'll have going into any and all negotiations.

Serves them right.

Barca has very incompetent management. They are the same management who tried to compete with Real Madrid in buying players at a high price. Transfers such as Dembele, Coutinho and not being able to get the best out of them. Bartomeu's reign is one in which he tried to make Barca as "great" as Real Madrid by spending and getting the most expensive players for getting success, but this ended backfiring on him.

When they traded Artur for Pjanic, that was absolutely insanity for me. Artur was young and very capable, Pjanic was well past his prime. Barca purchased too many expensive players which they did not need or use, they merely spent on their fees and salaries. The best example is Coutinho who was considered surplus and loaned to Bayern, then he scored 2 and provided one assist against Barca all in the span of 15 minutes. So the player is good, but Barca cannot play him in a system he can thrive.

When Barca lost 8-2 to Bayern, the blame was put on Suarez, but it was Suarez who was responsible for the own goal from Alaba and it was Suarez who scored the other goal... When Barca let 8 goals in, the problem was the defence and yet it's the same defence they still have. Not much has changed in defence except Semedo being shipped off.

I'd love Frenkie De Jong here.

Me too. Barcelona seem to indirectly see anyone other than Messi as expendable. Of course, he’s allegedly ‘untransferrable’, but he isn’t Messi and I suspect the right fee would tempt them. If Pogba is to leave this summer, I’d absolutely love every penny plus more to be thrown at Frenkie.

Messi is such a little slimeball. We really do choose to idolise absolute cnuts, don't we.

Can anyone tell me what is United's yearly wage bill and how does it compare to Real/Barca.

Makes a mockery of no player being bigger than the club.

As great as Messi has been and still is....this is a club in severe financial trouble trying to get rid of players who are on contracts for free.....to give a contract 5-10x the weekly wage they are on to a 34year old and apparently asking others to take a pay cut.

All these past notions of Barcelona and what a wonderful club, not having shirt sponsors rah rah rah etc etc over several decades has been tarnished with one contract negotiation.

100% for me they should be letting him leave and not bowing to those demands considering his age, demands and the financial situation they are in.....not trying to offloads so many others instead

As for those they are tryin gto offload.....none on that list we should be interested in I feel just for the fact they are on a free or cheap, all of them are either the wrogn age, injury ridden or now journeyman I feel though all good players (obviously if at Barcelona)

What big clubs that have money should be doing is testing there resolve on some of there young players though....Fati, Pedri, DeJOng, Moriba and Dest are all talented young players and I dont think all of them are untouchable, certainly not if the right offer came in for them.

Think DeJong would be very hard to get but he is the ideal signing, fabulous player and Moriba from the little I have seen seems to have all the tools to be a top class midfielder though he hasnt proved anything yet or made many appearances so also the biggest gamble of the lot

Not that I particularly rate him but perhaps offloading Pique to us is not impossible either

Barca have been trying to shift Umtiti for years to be fair, they've known he's a busted flush for a long time. I do think he's seemingly happy to just stick about and take the money as no other top club would go anywhere near him at this point.
Aye. It has the feel of Micah Richards at Villa. I suspect that after Umtiti leaves Barca and the dust has settled a bit the story will be told that it was felt he was no longer capable of playing football at that level due to the knee issues. Barca won't say that now as they'd like to shift his wage, Umtiti won't admit it because he probably doesn't accept it and he's not going to harm his own chances of getting a deal elsewhere, but Umtiti of a few years ago would have found a very good club, even on the sort of wages he's on.

Barcelona don't have the money to rebuild. They squandered it on players who didn't work out. Now they're reliant of Messi keeping them relevant.

Pjanic would be a fantastic signing for us. No brainer on a free. Apparently, Spurs are sniffing around.

With pogba and matic leaving i wouldn't mind him. Its free, what do we have to lose ?

will only make the whole Pjanic/Melo deal even weirder if they got rid for cheap or free just one year later

Can understand Umtiti, a footballer who can't play football, who needs one of them knocking around soaking up money. Pjanic they signed to cook the books and are now looking to release him to free up funds, there is a certain amount of irony in that.

Seems like this is go to free up funds for Messi, the greedy little cnut, he's set for life anyway. He should be thankful to the club for the life they've given him, the hormones and all the money and play for them for free for the rest of his career.

However much they mess up, unfortunately, they'll never get what should be coming for a club that has been so badly managed. They'll again just a get big loan out of thin air with the tiniest of interests and will be winning CLs in a few years' time.

it can go hand in hand though, no? Messi being a greedy prick and Barca being a shambles of a club isn't necessarily mutually exclusive.

This is my take on it too. For all Barca have done wrong, isn't Messi meant to love them. Wasn't his son annoyed at potentially leaving because be is a huge Barca fan?

I seem to remember that we had some players from the class of 92 that didn't even have agents as they loved United and just wanted to play here. Only ones who left the club were not wanted. None of them would have acted like this as they wanted the best for United. Even when Keane was pushing for more it was in the context of not being am academy player and knowing our financial clout I.e. we could have and should have been paying more.

In this instance I don't know what Messi is thinking. It's not like he is short of money and even a reduction/same money would have to be one of top salaries. Yes, he could go and get more at PSG because they wouldn't need to pay a fee to get him but I always thought he was bigger than just the money.

The worst run football club in the world.

It will be better for Barca to just let Messi go and rebuild the club. But they can't let go it seems

Are people not aware of how awful umtiti and pjanic are? They’ve been trying to dump them since January. Umtiti flat out refuses to leave

Yeh, tell messi to get in line with the rest of the squad in regards to pay or do one. No player is bigger than the club. Messi is damaging Barcelona needs to go to PSG for all the oil money he can get.
Wait before the Messi fanboys try to justify how Messi deserves it and Barca should go at any lengths to keep him even if it means asking other players to take a wage cut or leave the club regardless of their contracts. This guy is greedy af.

Bless Barca. Whenever I think we're horribly run I can look over at that shitshow and my glass is immediately half full.

He was pushing to leave just last season, it’s Barca who is trying to keep him there at all cost.

Isn’t it funny how players are the ones blamed for making the clubs honouring the contract they willingly got themselves into?

Barca gave him the contract. He’s entitled to stay and collect his pay. Just like you said Messi is.

sure, and Barca have every right to try to get rid of it. Umtiti has the power to decline the termination. Which he has.

an insanely dumb take

Messi wanted out last season, Barcelona didn't let him rather forced him to stay by put a 700 millions release clause trigger.
But somehow it is Messi's fault:D.
The blind hatred is hilarious, but if anyone question that, that person is Messi fanboy.
If he genuinely wanted out last season then you'd assume he won't renew now, right? I mean, nobody's forcing him.

it’s none of your business whether what he wanted is still the same

one of the best players in history ain’t got no time for you

Yeah, this is a good point. Tom Brady (NFL) for instance could've ranked in a load more cash if he had wanted too but decided that, even though he was within his rights to take massive contracts, it was better for him to take less in order to win more titles.

That guy is essentially the CR7/Messi of American football.

But NFL has a cap… and well none of it’s are anywhere near the scale and scope of what Ronnie and Messi bring. Brady has 9mil followers on instagram for instance … Ron 300mil Messi 220mil… the only comparable is probably Tiger or Jordan… and Jordan didn’t take a pay cut either.

There’s no real reason Barca/Juve/Real shouldn’t be able to build teams…. I mean Barca have spent nearly 500m on 4 players recently… 2 massive flops. That mismanagement isn’t on Messi… he just wants Neymar back
