Most players are a lot more comfortable on one side, that's the only thing i said, there is exception, but they only are exceptions.
Why buy a player who is comfortable on the left and not as much on the right, when you need someone on the right ? It's not as if we couldn't buy a right footed CB. It's not as if Laporte was a 40m€ player.

Whoever is trying to sign him, will have to pay that sort of fee. His release clause is rumoured to be around that amount. In my opinion he could be worth it in the long term, just like Rooney and Ferdinand have been worth their fees.

That's what i meant, he will cost 40m. And for 40m you better sign the perfect CB.

Not sure there is the perfect centre-half available in January or next summer. Varane signed a new contract and Hummels seems very loyal to Dortmund. Laporte is the closest thing to a typical United signing and what you are describing. Young, already really good and loads of potential, I'd rather sign him than some stop-gap.

Blackett has been doing well? Is well what we need at United? He is no United quality. Couldnt be arsed if we play 2 left footed CB's, whats the difference with 2 left footed CB's and 2 rightfooted?

I think it's too early to tell with Blackett. He's done okay. He could excel if LvG continues to believe in him. I always find it harder to judge young centre backs, compared to midfielders/forwards.

I agree with the latter part though. I don't think I ever took any real notice of a players' stronger foot until this season. It's never been an issue before, and if you're a left footer playing on the left side of defence, you still need to use your right foot if the ball comes inside.

He's the kind of talent we shouldn't miss out on. I'd argue that he's currently better than any centre-half we have.

That may well be true, but I just think we need an experienced centre back to go with the abundance of young, inexperienced centre backs we currently have.

To be honest I'm losing my patience with Evans, Jones and Smalling, as talented as they may be, they are just injured too often. Laporte would be one of the centre-halves I'd try to sign to build a strong defence around. I don't know who's that experienced centre-half everyone seems to want, it certainly shouldn't be Vlaar. In my eyes we need to sign 2 for central defence anyway.

He's brilliant. I'd get him in. Rojo will have plenty of games as his back up and Shaws.

I love our youngsters to be given chances but I have no problem signing him simply because I don't think Smalling and Evans will be here for long.

That said I would prefer a right-footed CB to replace them and I think we'll have to be patient with Rojo/Blackett this season to see whether they're up to it.

As many have said, we need experienced CB at the moment. We have abundance of young and promising CB's - Smalling, Jones, Blackett, Rojo, all fit in that category. We don't need to pay another 40m on 20 years old...

Will be a pain dealing with Bilboa - lets hope the lad doesn't sign a contract extension, doubling his buy-out clause

Haven't seen much of him. Sounds very talented.

I think we need someone whose experienced and more comnanding aerially and physically more. Preferably a leader and right footer as well.

Though having said that won't be opposed to Laporte but after signing Rojo don't see Lvg going after him unless Rojo is already deemed not good enough.

Who would that be? Like Shaw, Rooney and several others he could be well worth his hefty fee at such a young age.

Actually he has done exactly that in the summer. He said he feels he's in the right place and all things considered he's probably right. He's playing regularly, Champions League football and their new stadium are good reasons not to leave as yet. His release clause wasn't doubled, I think, it was increased from something like 30 odd million to more than 40m. Apart from that if he wants to come it's pretty much straight forward, give him the money, he pays the release clause and there's nothing that Athletic can do.

Laporte is a fantastic talent. Been wanting us to sign him for a while, although I figured due to age he may be overlooked. Was outstanding last season though, him and Varane are in a league of their own as far as young centre-halves are concerned. I like the little I've seen of Rudiger too, interesting to see how he develops.

Thanks for the update Bucky!

More reports on this guy is another young defender what we need right now......

I'd go all out in the summer to get him. Also Varane but he isn't realisitic.

Is he actually a clear cut, Rooney, ferdinand, hazard level talent? where its absolutely nailed on their going to be top players.

Put it this way, he'd be our best defender instantly if he joined us.

Activate that clause!!!!

I'm pretty sure he's stick on to go to Barca as soon as their embargo is lifted, but god I wish he was coming here!

So has this bloke actually been linked with us? Or is this thread completely random transfer muppetry?

Not the best sources obviously.

It's never set in stone, but he's been consistently good for Athletic despite his age, similar to Shaw talent-wise maybe. I'd argue that he belongs in the category for most talented centre-halves like Varane.

Away with your common sense, man!

This guy is guaranteed to eclipse Rio, Maldini or Beckenbauer. Definitiely the greatest ever.

Unless we sign him, that is, at which point he will become a perma-crocked, NUQ waste of money.

Imo yes, he's a superb defender. There's a reason why he was named in the La Liga team of the year last season and also why Barcelona tried to sign him in the Summer. Class player. I still see him going to Madrid or Barcelona though.

They can have Adnan on loan from Jan onwards as a sweetener....get on it!

I'm really surprised Barca did not go in for him this past Summer. Would of made alot of sense for them as they needed a CB, is young, Spanish based, Plus the impending transfer ban they now face

Is he Spanish? Thought he was French? Still yeah Barca probably should have signed him, I'm sure they tried tbh.
