Ayden Heaven | Signs from Arsenal

Sorry if it's already been mentioned but a few questions :

1. If I understand correctly we are considering him a first team player? Is he ready for game time or likely just to be training with first team while playing with the youth team?

2. Any news on transfer fee?

3. I read he started of as a CM but got moved back to CB recently. Is he 100 percent a CB signing or could we see him in midfield?
Re the fee I read somewhere (can't remember where) around £1.5m

Are people surprised based on what Wilcox said the other day?

I did see the quotes and knew we had big plans for him, I just thought it would take a while. Maybe bed him in first with the youth system for 6 months or something. Early days so let’s see.

He feels like a specific system player who is much more suited in a team that plays 3 in the back to offset the supposed defensive deficiencies, especially in Amorim’s system where one of the CBs can step up and act as a extra midfielder who can pass (dream scenario for us is that CB is a decent deep lying playmaker). I’ve seen gooners saying that his passing is one of his strongest attributes.

Him in a traditional back 4 would make him look mediocre. In the Amorim 3-4-3 he’d look much more suitable.

This lad has never played for the Arsenal 1st team, other than a 10 minute cameo at the end of a Carabao cup match when it was all over.
Throwing him into our dismal 1st team would be ridiculous.

Last year he was on a scholarship contract like most 17-year-olds. The club then offered him a new professional contract (I think last summer, can't remember) but he stalled on signing, largely because the club wanted him to become a LCB but had no real pathway into that position with Gabriel, Calafiori, and Kiwior all in the first team as well as a number of left backs.

Arsenal did not make much of an attempt to change his mind or show him a pathway. He has played 10 minutes for the first team in one League Cup appearance, only been on the bench for 3 PL fixtures, and mainly been with the U21s and trained with them.

Appreciate this. So in the UK, or PL, most players up to 17 year old are fairly fair game for other teams to talk too? As I wasn't just alluding to him, but also Chido. I'm just looking at others in the same age that I know of, so say Mikey Moore, and looks like Spurs signed him into a 3 year deal straight after he turned 17.

I don't keep up much obviously!

Very strange move because an 18-year-old first-team player is exactly what we don’t need right now when we’re crying out for quality. Big question marks on Dorgu as well. Ideally, we should be signing 24-26 yo players who are about to hit their prime.

He’s been signed as a backup not a starter.

We didn't know Martinez was going to get injured. He's a project and we shouldn't expect much for the next few years.

Do you think we should cancel the U21 team and the U18 just because we need reinforcements in the first team? Or is it that you think we could have gotten a first team reinforcement about to hit his prime for the €1.8m spent on Heaven?

They’d cost an awful lot in fee and salary though. United are trying to bring both down currently.

I think they’ll thin out the high earners in the near future, signing mostly young ‘squad players’ with a high sealing on low-ish wages.

In reality he's cheap and could play for the u21s if he doesnt perform well enough for the first team in training and as a sub. I know Wilcox has said hes for the first team but if fans arent patient with Yoro this guy has doesnt have the slightest chance

Heaven and Yoro are for the future.
We can’t expect miracles from these two 18 year olds, playing where solid experience is a vital asset.

Even putting them in the same sentence seems silly. At 18 Yoro was playing weekly for Lille. Heaven is unlikely to get many first team mins

Well, we’ve already spent a fortune on the Yoro project, and it’s off to a rocky start. Hopefully, he follows the Amad and Dalot path by going on loans instead of being thrown into the deep end.

It's fine if he's indeed playing with the U21, but if he's first team bound as announced then it's a very puzzling move.

I understand the strategy, but this is exactly how the squad keeps getting weaker each year, while the young players don’t even have proper role models to look up to or offer relief during poor spells. Rasmus and Zirkzee are a direct product of this new model.
