Ayden Heaven | Signs from Arsenal

On his wiki it says he’s also capable of playing box to box midfielder.

Came through arsenal's academy playing centre mid until u18s then moved into defence

Reports are very left footed, quality with the ball but needs to develop confidence, defending isn't good. Physically very good for the role.

Will need to improve his defending a lot but good potential, especially since the centrebacks in Amorim's system can step forward into midfield and are important to ball progression

You'd think he'd get at least the odd U21 game or youth cup game or something to acclimatise and get minutes even if he was signed primarily for the first team squad. He's still a young man after all.

Also, B(Red) of Heaven has to be an option for a chant if our Welsh fans will permit it!

Interesting one, especially with him coming straight into the first team squad having not featured much at all for Arsenal.

There's definitely an opportunity for him though if he can develop. Evans and Lindelof are both out of contract at the end of the season so if he can bed in now, get some minutes and improve his defensive game like people say he's needs, then it could be a very astute signing long term.

Would be good to know what made a North London boy leave the Arsenal academy at a time when Arsenal's prospects look far brighter to join Manchester United. Same can be asked for Chido Obi Martin's case too.
Chido's a United fan and Heaven was promised a place right in the first team squad which he didn't get at Arsenal. There he had three spots on the bench in the league and 10 mins in the EFL Cup against Preston.

Hard to gauge how good he is from Arsenal fans because they either sound bitter or not fussed that he’s gone.
That’s a fair enough observation as I am both bitter and not too fussed that he’s gone.

I think the most likely scenario is him ending up like Omari Hutchison who left us for a small fee in the last year of his contract for much bigger wages than we were offering to sign for Chelsea. He then immediately went on loan to Ipswich and then was sold to them for £20m. We made, at the very most, £5m from that with Chelsea claiming the rest despite him basically spending no time in their first team.

Heaven is a good prospect, but he had Gabriel, Kiwior and Califiori (especially with the emergence of Lewis-Shelly) ahead of him at LCB. He was never going to make it. And seeing as Yoro isn’t currently a starter, he faces a lot of competition at United too.

He’s a no-brainer as a signing, though. He’ll either fulfil his promise, in which case he’s a bargain. Or you sell him at a chunky profit. All of the highly rated Hale End kids, of which he is definitely one, have a fairly high baseline, so they all will have decent resale value as a minimum. As an Arsenal fan, I’m quite bitter that Chelsea and now United have become pretty shrewd in capturing that value for themselves… but we’ve done the same to other clubs (including Barca multiple times) so I can’t complain too much.

Interesting to hear. Thanks! Seems like we’re trying to learn our lesson and buy players with a view to profiting from them.

Yeah, it looks like it. And you can offer the likes of Chido and Heaven bigger wages than we can as you’re buying them with the view to integrating them into the first team much sooner than we would be able to.

Arsenal can’t match United’s offers without throwing our wage structure out of whack. Heaven only has a single first team start in the League Cup, so if we offered him big money, all of our academy talents at that level would make the same demands.

It’s win-win financially for United and Heaven, no matter what happens. The only loser in this scenario is Arsenal, really. But the only way to avoid it would be to overpay in wages or integrate the likes of Heaven and Chido earlier than their development merits, both of which have long-term drawbacks that evidently outweighed keeping them in Arsenal’s view.

Time will tell whether we got that balance right.

So he's going to play as a defender for us? I thought he left arsenal to get away from it.

absolutely love this kind of signing ... we should be throwing more darts like these, given the situation we are in. Will be interesting to see whether he'll be a CB or DM for us.

Yoro does start some games. He indeed comes off the bench much more often, but still participates nearly in every game, one way or another

Damn we're stocking up defenders now... LWB, CB.
Talents for CF as well.. please. We're dying up front.

Most likely the deputy to Martinez then. Will be interesting to see what we would do if Martinez was out. Would we stick Heaven in or would we play one of the other centre half options ahead of him?

Glad to see we’re making loads of these signings. 15 years late but they’re an absolute no brainer. Low risk, relatively a shot to nothing money wise with potentially massive upsides.
so you want to see us signing three year olds?

Think this is it. Basically looks like we have Yoro deputising on the right, Heaven on the left and we let De Ligt effectively be a versatile centre with Harry.

Add Dorgu, Dalot and Quenda and you have a defensive unit that could grow together and come through as each of them progresses without the pressure of being starters from the get go, much as we did with the class of 92.

Mainoo, Amad, Garnacho, Collyer all in the mixer too.

If it works this could really be something to get excited about now and if they fail they can fade quietly while we continue to rely on the starters like Martinez and re-adjust.

Most optimistic I have felt in years.

I doubted it, but Wilcox's comments say he's in the first team squad. It also makes clear that hes signed as a defender, not a midfielder

Edit - Also, although he didnt make his debut for Arsenal he was on the bench 3 times in the premier league in 2024

Yeah, you can really feel it shaping together. It's easy for people to laugh at us or for our own fans to feel negatively about our current position. However, if you look at things with an open mind you can see that there are a some really talented players at this club, with many of them being quite young. At least you can see the vision. Hopefully, it works out.

Absolutely, we can always live in hope!

Didn’t he say he made his debut in the League Cup for them?

Evans and Lindelof gone in the summer. Shaw perma crocked, so that leaves us Martinez for the left sided position, or using Yoro or some9ne else out of position.
4 defenders for 3 positions would be very unlikely sustainable over a full season.

Know nothing about him but a left footed young and promising CB is good to be a backup to Licha. So Mazraoui, Yoro for RCB, De Ligt and Maguire for CCB, and Martinez and Heaven for LCB. Shaw if he ever gets fit will find his spot too between LCB and LWB. The others (Malacia, Lindelof, Evans) are surely gone now or in the summer.

My exact same thinking.
Add Kukonki there and we are good to go for next season.

So that’s Chido and now Heaven, any other big talents we can pluck out of Arsenals academy while we’re at it?
The only player that would genuinely rile up our fanbase is Max Dowman. I honestly think there would be a minor protest at the stadium.

Normally for someone of his age you'd expect to be saying heaven can wait. It seems though for Amorin, heaven has a place on earth (or at least on the bench). I'll get my coat.....
