That’s a fair enough observation as I am both bitter and not too fussed that he’s gone.
I think the most likely scenario is him ending up like Omari Hutchison who left us for a small fee in the last year of his contract for much bigger wages than we were offering to sign for Chelsea. He then immediately went on loan to Ipswich and then was sold to them for £20m. We made, at the very most, £5m from that with Chelsea claiming the rest despite him basically spending no time in their first team.
Heaven is a good prospect, but he had Gabriel, Kiwior and Califiori (especially with the emergence of Lewis-Shelly) ahead of him at LCB. He was never going to make it. And seeing as Yoro isn’t currently a starter, he faces a lot of competition at United too.
He’s a no-brainer as a signing, though. He’ll either fulfil his promise, in which case he’s a bargain. Or you sell him at a chunky profit. All of the highly rated Hale End kids, of which he is definitely one, have a fairly high baseline, so they all will have decent resale value as a minimum. As an Arsenal fan, I’m quite bitter that Chelsea and now United have become pretty shrewd in capturing that value for themselves… but we’ve done the same to other clubs (including Barca multiple times) so I can’t complain too much.
