Australian Open 2012

I don't think nishikori's gameplan is sound enough to beat Murray, getting into too many rallies and Murray will dominate those. Needs to switch it up a bit

How did this hack get to the QF? Game is too lacking for any top 20 player. Who did he beat to get there?

Murray vs Nishikori 6-3 6-3 6-1

It was to expected Nishikori will be tired after the match against Tsonga and Murray shouldn't have too much problems against him but that scoreline was unexpected...........come on only 7 games against someone with only 44% of 1st serve.
If Murray can get his first serve % higher than the abysmal 49% it is currently then he should give Djokovic a run for his money (assuming Djokovic gets past Ferrer in the next hours) because his game looks great in every other part.

Tsonga was his only tough opponent.

Thanks for the heads up.

Djokovic looks to be in trouble - seemed to have pulled his hamstring in the second set.

Djoko needs to step up a bit if he needs to win the title. I'd say Murray could beat him but then Murray hasn't played anyone even half decent so we don't know if he'll step it up vs Djokovic but I can certainly see Federer beating Djoko in around 4 sets if the latter doesn't improve on his last two matches..

It's a quiet day on the transfer window front if Adam Hammill is a shock transfer target for Wigan.

All good and well mate, but I'm not sure how it's related to Aussie Open.

Does it seem like a given for most that Federer will comfortably oust Nadal on current form? I've hardly watched any of it so far, unfortunately.

He beat Tsonga by sticking to his backhand, Tsonga mentally losing focus and finding a second wind at the time of Tsonga up 2 sets and thinking its over. Nishikori was gassed and it showed in this match. Murray also has much more control on his angles and variety of shots compared to Nishikori and he played right into Murrays hands.

Nishikori had alot of winners but a ton of unforced errors (almost 1:1 instead of 2:1 of Murray) heading into the day so Nishikori needed to play a sound game to have a chance. He didnt and when I posted about his gameplan it was about the long rallies but also going for the winner too soon and Murray saw it coming every time opening up a great angle for him.

No mistake, its a great learning experience and Nishikori has a good future in front of him but just needs to tweak his conditioning and his approach to certain players.

My prediction, Roger is going to beat Rafa this time.

I think he's really motivated this time, plus Nadal isn't playing good tennis.

Kvitova should have won that third set. Put great pressure on every Sharapova service game in the set. Top marks to Sharapova for fighting it out though, did not hand it to Kvitova and made her earn thos big points who unfortunately blew it.

So Rafa vs Federer right now. I'll be staying away from this thread as it slowly turns to be a bitchfest again as the match progresses.

National holiday... Fed-Nadal on at 2 PM.. .

If only there was some football on tonight as well... ah well..

Federer looks like he is going to run over Nadal here but the question is does he what it takes to beat Novak? I sure hope so ever wins here beat Novak.

Shocking couple of games from federer. It's so similar to the french open last year. Now hell get broken.

I'd like to see the stats of federer's unforced error since 4-1 and before.

Losing your sole break is not blowing it.

Nadal is a slow started compared to Fed, it is common in their matches for Fed to start better and Nadal to come back.

Unforced errors have little to do with what the other player does.

Federer was a little lucky to win that tie breaker imo. First serve disappeared towards the end of the set.

Nadal messed up that tie break with the errors at 1-2 and 5-6. Anyway Federer breaks early in the 2nd and he's looking good right now.

Anyway if Nadal does lose, atleast I won't have to watch him lose to bloody Djokovic again!
