Australian Open 2012

Almagro had every right to play the shot he did. He played it straight at the body of Berdych, who is a pussy and complains about it.

Heard Na burst into tears and had to walk out at the post match presser. Can't say I sympathize with her.

As expected Federer was too strong for Tomic in every area 6-4 6-2 6-2

Easy win for Nadal too against Lopez 6-4 6-4 6-2

Del Potro is through too.

feck Berdych! Can't even handshake! Come on Rafa.
Yeah booooooooooooooooooohhhhh..........he has lost any chance of gaining crowd support for his match against Nadal............boooooooooooooooohhhhhh

Azarenka has reached the quarter-final :)

It's a shame Jankovic is woken up too late in the match..........Wozniacki vs Jankovic 6-0 7-5 :(

Yeah a really great comeback win from Clijsters to save four match points in the 2nd set tie-break and to be injured for a long time in the match

Wozniacki vs Clijsters should become a very good match.

Did he refuse to shake his hand because of that shot Almagro played?

What a tit Berdych is.

As if he did that on purpose.

It's like Ricky Ponting this summer all over again. Nobody likes Hewitt in Australia, but we all want him to win.

We had a similar thing with Justine Henin here. Most people disliked her, until Clijsters was out of the tournament. Then everyone was suddenly supporting Henin.

Although in the French speaking part of the country, it was probably the other way around.

I feel the same about Tomic as well. His insistence on pronouncing his name "tomik" with a hard c drives me up the wall.

Hewitt! WHat a fighter. 2 sets and 3-0 down vs Djokovic nd he comes back to win the 3rd set 6-4.

He'll still go on to lose but incredible spirit shown by him...as usual.

As usual? He usually plays like a chump. But I agree with the rest of your post.

However he might play he'll always fight to the end. His body has given up on him over the last 3-5 years but he's always a brilliant fighter.

Still some hours to go before the first matches.

The draw really has opened for Murray hasn't it? With Nishikori in the QF's I think this is possibly the easiest route anyone has had to the semis in a long time.

Federer, Nadal and Djokovic will have difficult matches vs Del Po, Berdych and Ferrer.

Nadal had a cakewalk so far. Can't think of easier rout. Djokovic up to Hewitt as well.

Berdych is not in good form, Ferrer shouldn't trouble Djokovic, Delpo on paper should be the hardest opponent, but his fitness is a question mark still, and he will play under the sun against Federer.

The difference between the top 4 and the rest is huge at the moment, and last year as well..

Yep both Nadal and Federer have had a bit off a walkover till now but Berdych and Del Po are still far more formidable opponents than...Nishikori.

And I disagree about Ferrer not troubling Djoko. I'm sure the latter will win but Djokovic had moments he struggled against Hewitt today and Ferrer is a far far superior version of Hewitt and he's been in wonderful form over the past half year. I think he could possibly even take a set or two off Djoko.

Djokovic probably has the hardest route to the semis with Hewitt and Ferrer. Luckily for Murray his two hardest opponents crashed out before he could face them.

I think Nishikori played very well today. I don't know if you watched the match, but his style matched Tsonga perfectly, he could use all the power and is very technical player that usually trouble big hitters like Tsonga.

Now Murray on other hand won't feed him pacy balls and he's pretty much an upgrade to Nishikori game, so he should have it easy...

Ferrer is not a superior version of Hewitt.Far from it. Hewitt is 2 times GS winner, 2 YET and former number one. He's a talent Ferrer never was/is/will be... He's consistent in his game and hard to brake down, but no Hewitt.

I'm a bit late today......

Well of course it's a shame that Kukushkin has retired against Murray but it was bit expected he wasn't 100% for that match after his hip injury and having played back-to-back five setters.
Anyway it isn't Murray's fault so it's a massive bonus for him that he has played only 50 minutes on the hottest day of the tournament so far.

It was a great match between Djokovic vs Hewitt

Nishikori's win against Tsonga is of course a surprise result but it isn't shock win because he has played very well in the last months and like Enigma_87 has said that his style was tough for a player like Tonsga.
I'm very happy the match has lasted 3 1/2 hours in hot conditions :)

Really a easy win for Ferrer against Gasquet 6-4 6-4 6-1.

If Murray and Djokovic are fit enough against their opponents in the quarter-final then we should have a Murray vs Djokovic semi-final

Well Murray's draw before the start of the Australian Open was tough with Harrison in the 1st round, Monfils in the 4th round and Tsonga in the QF.

It was much easier for your darling Nadal ;)

Federer should be arrested, you can't abuse someone in public like that. JMDP was bitched slapped. The score is very deceptive.

I don't know if Clijsters is so good or the rest of the female tennis players are so mediocre, but it's remarkable that she's winning so easily every time she makes a comeback. On her first comeback, she wins the US Open, on the second the Australian Open and now she has a semi final in Brisbane and one in Melbourne already.

If she stays fit this time, she could easily go for the number one spot again I think. She can't win any points in this Open, but last year she didn't do much else than win in Melbourne.

The women's game is really in poor order at the moment. Mediocrities like Wozniacki are holding the no.1 spot by virtue of being flat track bullies and then being made to look ordinary when the big tournaments come around.

So many bad calls today it's untrue... Berdych - Nadal is turning into one hell of a match.

Rafa Federer will be on Friday I think and probably the night session as it's such a huge match.

Nadal started poorly and was far too much behind the baseline for much of the first 2 sets but he moved forward and started playing well after that. Match of the tournament so far imo.

Harrison was never a tough draw, Murray made that harder than it needed to be. In fact the only potential slip Murray had was vs. Tsonga and Nishikori took care of that. I expect Murray to beat Nishikori in straights.

Funny thing was he started his match vs. Lacko and Lopez exactly the same way and started dominating Lacko after the first three games when he stepped into the court, hopefully he learns from this.

Del Po looked like he didn't know what had hit him. That is the best I have seen Roger play a whole match in a long time. I think he is back to his best of a few years ago and it should be a titanic battle with Rafa. I hope Roger wins and goes on to win the whole thing.

It's actually fantastic that the women's game is so competitive but it's more competitive because yeah the level it's not very good, a lot of very good players are out there but only 1-2 fantastic players like Clijsters and maybe a 100% fit S.Williams.
The quality isn't very good either.........i mean i've never seen a woman dive across the court in the spectacular way or a woman hit a winner through their legs.
And 20!!!!! successive junior Grand Slams in a row won by different girls says a lot too.

At least Wozniacki can back to her golf WAG career :)
