Australian Open 2010

Talking about Nadal, whats the latest with him?

I read in one paper that he may only have 2 years left in the game because of the injury, surely that cant be true? If it is, its a great shame.

Same injury as Hargreaves i heard.

But back to Federer. What an athlete. 16 grand slams and on the way to many more.

He didn't even look tired out there against Murray. Fair doos to Murray for making the 3rd set interesting but you could still see the gap in technique between Murray and Federer.

Yeh, which when you see how it seems Nadal is repeatedly breaking down, it's definitely not looking good for Hargreaves long-term prospects

Tendonitis isn't something that goes away, it's just something you try and manage and not overwork it.

But on the game, Federer was immense in those first two sets, and Murray just didn't take what chances he was given, and that's something you can't afford to against Federer, as he gives you so few.

Joke? Murray has no sense of humour. Like most Scots he is instinctively anti-English. Just because he tried to "clear it up" doesn't make it not so.

Get a grip it wasn't Murray that tried to clear it up it was the reporter who asked him what team he was supporting who did it later on to clear up exactly what happened. As Henman was joking about Murray buying a Paraguay shirt before the press conference which the reporter was a part of off stage, so Murray made a typical jokey comment about Paraguay when the press conference had started to have a friendly pop at Henman and the press completely missed the joke.

I mean for someone who is meant to be so anti-English, he lives in London, had an English girlfriend until they split that to me and others doesn't say anti-
English.

And I heard he's really tight as well and when he's finished training he goes home to eat haggis and just stares at the wall, like a right dour Scot.

So pleased for Roger. Great performance. I don't know how he can keep doing this year after year. I'm sure if he hadn't had mono in 2008 he would have won a couple more slams by now. I'm not a Murray fan, but I did feel sorry for him as it does mean so much to him to win one. I'm sure he will as Roger will inevitably slow down as he ages and then it will be a fight amongst the young guys to take over. What a great day as we thump Arse and Roger wins.

It was a really good final, though I'd obviously have liked to see it go the distance. Federer was outstanding from the time of the breaks of serve in the first to early in the third. Murray gave him a few little scares, but unfortunately he couldn't raise his game enough, and seemed to be struggling a bit physically.

Murray will learn from this though, and hopefully put himself right among the top group of players. I'll happily admit it; I didn't much like the bloke but, mother aside, he's starting to grow on me. It was almost nice to see him cry, as you get the sense that he genuinely believed he could win it, which is half the battle. If he can become a bit less passive, a bit more willing to take chances and sort out the horrible second serve then he'll win himself a few slams, I'd wager.

Top post.

You could see in the third set obviously that Murray was getting more comfortable with his game, but sadly at that point he was down 2 sets and he hadn't faced much high-pressure all tournament...

There's pressure-packed situations, and then there's Federer-packed situations, it's a whole new level of, I guess, opression.

Federer played brilliantly, playing within himself with percentage tennis and raising his level when he needed to. As for Murray, he is at the level of Del Potro, Djokovic and Roddick, where he is capable of reaching and even winning a slam final, but will then disappear for the next few. Federer has faced 5 different opponents in the last 5 slam finals. The depth of the men's game is very good, it's just that Federer is extraordinary. We need Nadal to get fit again, but I think we may have seen the best of him, a better version of players like Courier and Hewitt who relied on great physical abilities and peaked in their early twenties.

That third set, should tell Murray that he has the ability to win a slam no question.

If he'd started like that, the match could've been different. Too often he takes too long to get going and the serve is too hit and miss.

I'll be very surprised if by 25 he still hasn't won a slam. He strikes me as a guy who learns from every defeat and it will be a slow and steady wins the race approach for followers of murray.

Jesus, when you look at it like that it's extraordinary.

i thought Nadal had turned the corner with Fed after he took over the number one ranking, but it looks like it was just a blip.
