Australia tour of India - 4 tests

Smith should be punished even if that was the only time it happened. He could have easily gotten a shake of the head from the dressing room in those few seconds and saved his team a review.

And like Kohli said, the umpire was straight on to Smith because he had been made aware of it happening earlier.
Yes, the umpire was clearly on the case.

Just caught the highlights. Great stuff to come back despite the first innings lead. Very intriguing game so hopefully more of the same pitches.

Or he can make sure the opposing team follows the rules.. Which he did.
That's umpire's job. He can of course bring attention to it. Can't go on calling it cheating though till it is proven through investigation.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

The video evidence is out there and the umpire confirmed it. The facts are clear here, even Smith admitted it.

I was talking about other instances he talked about not just Smith one. I read Kohli saying Australia are doing it for all reviews. If he believes so, that needs to be proven first. Also point stands that if he is less dumb in own reviews and stop treating it as lottery, it will be better.

He reported it to the umpires on the field at the time. He's free to say what he likes to the media. Your othe rpoint may stand, but it is irrelevant to the topic that was being discussed at the time - Smith's cheating.

The topic is not Smith's cheating, overall accusation. He is free to say what he likes to media is bullshit argument.

It really isn't. Things are often not "left on the field" in cricket. The aussies are the first to cry foul. He said they did it throughout the test and I reported it to the umpires. There is 0% wrong with that.

He called it repeated cheating and for that Umpires have to see it as such. Kohli saying doesn't make it so.

So he should have said "In my opinion it's repeated cheating". And everybody on this forum should say "In my opinion" before every post. Ridiculous.

 No we all should go on passing our opinions as judgements and fact without being the authority on it. Well done.

He's a cricketer being asked questions by the media. He's not going to shy away from reporting what he saw on the field. It's silly. I think you preferred the Indian team from the 80s and 90s where we bent over and let other teams run roughshod over us.

What is silly is you going on rambling here. Kohli doesn't get to decide if cheating or not. The incident which umpire saw, they acted on. I hope you have ability to understand that 80s and Kohli are not only way to go. Also it is nonsense to project as if 80s, 90s players were victims of some scam. They were mediocre most of the times and hence had mediocre results.

Saha's catch is incredible -- just look at the position he starts from. Looks up and goes "I can catch that" and then starts..

Well given Kohli had apparently brought this to the umpires notice and the umpires were seemingly very quick to jump on Smith its obvious that the Aussies were at it for some time. We were obviously keeping an eye in it all game. Clear cheating at play although I'm not sure of it actually makes any difference.

I've said my piece. Kohli is entitled to his opinion and to speak to the media. It's laughable that you think he should keep quiet. The other side certainly wouldn't. I'm not going to bother to respond anymore.

I didn't say he should keep quiet, I said he should not make accusations of cheating like that. There is a difference, try to read properly. It would have been better if you hadn't bothered first time rather than rambling nonsensically whole time.

He never used the word cheating. Stop rambling nonsensically the whole time.

He was asked if that he meant to and it was quite clear it was when he tried his best to point to it in his first comment. Don't start crying now ffs..

The only one crying is you. Do yourself a favor, read the actualy commens, see what he said, and then maybe, I'll bother responding.

Better, put some logic in your argument, some sense maybe if you are capable of and then respond (which I thought you were already done with?). Also, If "then" you'll bother responding, what you are doing for last few hours? Showing your immaturity and level of comprehension?

Not sure what you're arguing against here TMH. Have you actually seen the presser? You commented about the need to get better with his own reviews first. He actually said that himself. Also, he didn't use the word cheating but said he can vouch for the fact that it's happened atleast twice because it was when he was batting and thus they've informed the umpires and the match referee because of which the umpires were alert when it happened again. What's wrong with any of that? Oh and yes, he was asked if he had seen it before as well which is what he replied to.

The first part about Kohli getting better with his reviews was an obvious tongue in cheek comment. If crybabies like NM get up in arms with it, they will make fool of themselves.
Regarding what Kohli said, he clearly insinuated that way and waited for someone from media to bring out word 'cheating.' Smith has denied doing so on any other occasion than when he got out. So, there is no reason to go by Kohli's words that it is been going on for 3 days.

Ignore TMH. He hasn't bothered with the facts and goes on rants. He then accuses others who actually do read the facts of being crybabies. He probably won't read your whole post either.

I want to keep arguing with TMH because I'm bored at work but this is getting really childish. @The Man Himself let's end this by agreeing to disagree and stop derailing this thread before a mod comes along and tells us both to shut up.

Don't worry mods generally don't bother with Cricket thread much :D
Anyway seeing how up in arms you were with my tongue in cheek comment on Kohli, I pressed along as it has been long time since I had an argument with someone ;)

My point remains though that there isn't guaranteed evidence that Smith did it throughout test. If it was Ponting it would have been more believable. Smith I will give benefit of doubt unless there is concrete evidence of it happening multiple times.

On larger point, I actually don't know how in those 10 seconds or so dressing room can help significantly unless they see multiple replays. The actual DRS and ultraedge is not visible to them that time. It is just one look on TV and one replay at max. Sometimes what looks plumb in one look on TV is not so on DRS. Hence I don't see point of so much fuss. On top of that, BCCI are very much capable of using it to again raise anti review system voice.

We need to bring in leg spinner into the roster,Ashwin/Jadeja and leggi would be good mixture.I don't see the point of including H.Pandya in the test squad.

Even if they only saw it in real time, it would be helpful to take on more opinions rather than just the batsman at the opposite end.

Surprising win. Batting needs to improve if we want to win this series. Vijay is missed. He's much better than Mukund. I'd rather play Dinesh Karthik when Vijay is unavailable.
How has he done in the in the first-class circuit this season??. Then again I don't think it will be a good idea to have Karthik and Vijay in the same dressing room.

I can't remember a test series when Aussies won the first test, was in a position of strength in the second and got beaten in the third emphatically :D
The 2001 series comes pretty close though. The last test in 2001 would have been an emphatic win had it not been for disastrous run chase in the final innings by India

That's the joke he's hinting at :p

James Sutherland on SEN radio in Melbourne:

"I find the allegations questioning the integrity of Steve Smith, the Australian team and the dressing room, outrageous...We reject any commentary that suggests our integrity was brought into disrepute or that systemic unfair tactics are used, and stand by Steve and the Australian cricketers who are proudly representing our country." -James Sutherland
