Aurelien Tchouameni / Signs for Madrid

during SAF times, we have lost quite a number of "big" signings. maybe its a blessing in disguise but we can't know for sure.

missing out on arguably the top prospect for a position we’ve neglected since before Ferguson had even left is a blessing in disguise?

I heard Perez signed the check thinking he was a right back, crazy! Probably because of all these Tchouameni commercials we see all around the world. Chocolate bars, soap, barbecues, the kid is everywhere!

I think UEFA should impose a cap, no player who doesn't play in the PL should be worth more than 15M because they're obvsiously not PL proven.

And he is not?

BUT BUT BUT the window doesn’t open until Friday!?
Give it a break. Trust this board. They have been efficient af throughout the years with well planned strategies for every summer. They barely leave signings for the last minute. Even if there were issues previously, all of them have magically evaporated because Richard Arnold and Murtough are basically the second coming.

Let them do their job and deliver success as they have always done.

By far my favourite response. Well done.

By far the best in the world at it? Because that's what we are talking about here.
Can you provide the link showing the data? The links I check do not show him as the best in those fields, even though he is one of the best though.

Not sure about it myself but I found this other tweet interesting as well

Interesting, I make sure to watch you lot intently in the upcoming season, interesting midfield options you lot building towards.

It seems that he will go to Atlético
For his career's sake, he should go to Barca. At Atletico he will be just another workhorse.

I feel that Camavinga can be the creative mind, has the technical ability and vision.
Honestly have never seen this side of his but i hope you're right.

I hope Modric-Casemiro-Kroos is split up next season.
They will be ... this season with the WC disrupting the normal seasons, having a huge squad will be the difference IMHO. I can see a lower number of points required to win the league as teams in the bottom half of the table, will have fresher players (since they generally don't play much in the WC).

Laughing my ass off at the PSG nuts trying to shit on this deal like they weren’t twerking and offering much higher transfer fee and higher salary just to get turned down.

you bought the snakes loyalty but you couldn’t buy Tchouamenis love my guy didn’t want to stay in the Farmers League.

The whole of premier league and the oil clubs wanted him but he still went to Real Madrid. Of course the price will go up when all of the big teams are fighting it out for him.

At least you’re humble.

The kid will have to learn how to play as a n°6 pretty fast because as a box to box I highly doubt he'll ever be dominant on the ball. Hope he's intelligent enough (he is pretty smart) to realize that he just doesn't have the toolkit to play higher on the pitch at the highest level.

PSG, absolutely rent free in a Madristas head. They must be doing something right.

He is a great talent but I'm actually not sure I like his evolution in the past few months (since he really got under the spotlight). He's trying to play higher and higher on the pitch. A high level team can't afford to waste a box to box spot for a player that have his input on offense. He needs to focus on becoming a monster in the DM position asap.

I might be wrong but the few Monaco games i watched, they were playing with a double-pivot in the midfield and Tchouameni looked the most attacking oriented of them. Doesn't look a DM to me. I tried to explain it to some Madrid fans, but they seem to have a magical thinking about some teansfers; like: "everything is gonna be ok", "tactical aspects are not so relevant", "we'll have enough fresh legs in the middle." Apparently they grow bored of their players and just want to see new toys, no matter what.

That's the issue, he had Fofana to cover for him when he went chasing the ball carrier. A top club can't afford to have 2 midfielders focused on defence with average abilities on the ball. Unless he improves drastically on offense (I'm really not convinced he will), his only sake at the highest level is the DM position (or double pivot along a more technical player by I doubt Real Madrid plans on going in this direction).

I agree, Rice seems to be suffering the same issue. Tchouameni is more talented though, in my opinion
They won the Keep Mbappe trophy this year.
Exactly, yet Real are the ones that keep banging on about it.

I think camavinga has the skillset to play more forward but he's very rough still so yeah, we'll have to see how they develop and we still need someone who can take Modric's role.

Oh for sure, I can't see Camavinga disciplined enough to keep his position as a n°6 anyway, I'd definitely train him to replace Modric.

Youre right. He is great at ball winning/tackles and defensive transitions but is too limited to play offense. His coaches need to tell him to sit and leave the creating to the creators. See the video above as proof.

If he isn't trained as a DM long term he will flop imo.

His passing is poor and inconsistent. Great at ball winning/tackling but without a passer next to him he will be exposed.

In that video is terrible. I hope this is an extreme and unusual case, otherwise we are in the same situation. One Casemiro for another and a midfield position mortgaged for someone to start the game properly.

He is a great ball winner but against low blocks you will need creative people around him. He will struggle badly if you let him become your main passer/creator.

Well, for a specialist DM surely a lot of your passes should be forward, no? Not knocking him but this stat doesn't really mean all that much.

I don't know where these stats are from. According to fbref, he ranks roughly at the 35th place for passes in the final third per 90mn (if you remove the players who played only a couple of games), 125th place for passes in the box per 90mn, 25th for progressive passing and 280 for key passes.

So... yeah, I don't get it.

Looks like France are missing Pogba badly, he would normally be the one on the ball here for them.

That is reassuring. Hopefully, they have picked up a McTominay at 100m.
I watched the match. And to be fair with him, that was just before he was subbed off. He looked tired for obvious reasons, he played their three games. He might not be the profile they were looking for. But he does possess the ball winning qualities of Casemiro and looks more mobile, making himself available for a pass all the time.

Also there is another thing, i suspect of any player/NT that is playing too well in those post-season matches on a world cup year. Those giving 100% now, in reality have no self confidence that they can win anything in the end of the year.

That looks horrendous, maybe it's just a one off but I'd he's always like he'll just need to always lay it off to someone who actually knows how to pass.

 ETH knows what he wants for sure that he told the club to focus on FDJ instead of this guy.

This is the sort of enlightened thinking that lead to 5 CL in 9 years :D

It was an extreme and unusual case, yes. Watched the game and he moved the ball quite well for a DM. And yes, I expect we signed him as a like-for-like replacement for Casemiro. This whole "he's not a DM! He plays with another DM for Monaco!" spiel is meaningless. He's gonna be a top DM and that's what he's gonna be for us

It's not magical thinking, just the way Real Madrid works. The squad is assembled by focusing on acquiring very good/excellent players that broadly fit, and from that the manager comes up with something that works. It's why Real Madrid is more inconsistent domestically (the squad is sometimes unbalanced because nothing quite works) but overall quite successful in the long run.

You might excuse two passes like that, but he's just not getting any of them right... that shit would get exposed quickly in the fast pace of the premier league. He would never get that much time on the ball here.
