Aurelien Tchouameni / Signs for Madrid

I think for Madrid, it’s very defence oriented and lacks creativity needed at high level. They will need a blockbuster attacking midfielder to go in there. Maybe a Bruno for €150mn??
They'll likely sign someone like Bellingham next summer

Not really, Camavinga especially showcased great creativity in the last couple of months. I’d love that midfield tbh, very dynamic, strong, good on the ball and forward thinking. And all three work their socks off so defensively we should be good as well. It would enable the team to move up on the pitch against bigger teams, something we have trouble with because of our aging midfield. It might also help free up Vinicius from some of his defensive duties in smaller games which should help his output going forward.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying they’re water carrying donkeys but I think it’s a bit of a stretch to say Camavinga showcased great creativity when he has one assist for the season. All three of them together didn’t scrape five assists.

They will all likely be great players in a few years but Modric alone had twelve assists. That midfield will be very solid and progress the ball well through the phases but I still think it needs a creative midfielder for balance.

Owh no I understand and honestly it would be incredible if we managed to transition from KCM to this new midfield and have it all click in one go. Just saying I wouldn’t mind it based on what I have seen from them so far, certainly not saying they’d be as good but there is an opportunity here to make a seamless transition to a new midfield and hopefully we pull it off. Might also depend on how the rest of the squad will be improved.

Though it’s all theory at this point, Tchou might as well leave to PSG/Liverpool.

He's committed to joining Real Madrid on a 5 year contract, and Madrid will pay Monaco €80m plus bonuses.

Thank god for that  worth every penny for them.

Shame we couldn't get him but meh, Madrid gonna madrid.

Maynard confirming RMC's news that Tchouameni has chosen Madrid and has announced his departure to his team mates.

Really hope we have scouted multiple players for each position we want to fill this summer. Lack of CL could see us missing out on a fair few #1 choices.

Pretty good player but plenty are overrating him in this thread he is no generational talent and Real don't actually need him .

This is a big disappointment. :(

Hopefully, Bellingham is affordable enough or Sangare is good enough.

But Tchoumani would have been the dream. :(

Interesting how Real will play their midfield next season:

Casemiro (Tchouameni)
Modric (Valverde) Kroos (Camavinga)

80m is a hell of a lot when we have a lot of holes to fill which will make it even more intriguing to see what type of price FDJ will fetch in the market if Barca sell

Ffs.

I’ve never seen the guy play but all the noise made me really want him.

Can’t blame him for wanting Madrid.

People still playing him down despite Madrid - who know a thing or two about midfielders - spending a fortune to acquire him.

Even the teams contesting his signature tell a thing or two.

He was *the* midfield signing of the summer, for me. Alas, we weren't even a consideration, which is a consequence of our actions.

It's grand he chose Madrid; at least that way it doesn't matter what he does for 80% of a season as far as we're concerned.

Madrid have taken both midfielders I've most coveted of the up-and-comers now, unfortunately. Who are the next elite wave coming out of France, or will there be a couple of years' lull now?

Especially since you also lost Marcelo and Carvajal seems old 4 games out of 5. They played a huge part in their ability to retain the ball (especially Marcelo who was a phenomenal baller). I know Real Madrid are looking for full backs but as is, it would be a huge drop in quality on the ball if they were to go with this midfield + Mendy + Carvajal.
Yes, great point and a huge role to replace.

This was Modric's best season in terms of assists too. Kroos usually did better, but half his assists came off set pieces

At the end of the day, from open play the Casemiro-Modric-Kroos midfield averaged like 15 assists a season between the 3 of them. I don't see that as something Camavinga and Tchou can't reach, particularly if we add another playmaker

Good news is Rudiger would allow us to move Alaba to wingback, so we get some creativity back here. We do need to replace Carvajal and hopefully this summer. That's the final big hole we need to fix. Then it's a solid backup forward

0 chance but if only someone could convince papa Perez to go all in for Reece James

I’m jealous but better him going to Madrid than to the scouse. I wonder why United had never made an effort to try and get him. Perhaps Ten Hag don’t see him in his system

I don't think its just about assist. Apart from far superior creativity, Modric and Kroos has been among elite passers in the game too.

In terms of passing stats:

Modric - 1.3 key pass, 58 pass (90%)
Kroos - 1.8 key pass, 77 pass (95%)

Camavinga - 0.5 key pass, 32 pass (90%)
Tchouameni - 0.6 key pass, 59 pass (86%)

Quite a big difference.

Real really need someone with creativity and good passing to play alongside these 2 in future, when Modric and Kroos retired.

You reckon Alaba will go for that? Wasn't one of the reasons he joined you is because he sees himself as a CB?

I was going to mention him as he's a logical fit, but checked myself because of his stance on what he wants to play.

It looks like you're reloading in a prudent way regardless. Thank the stars your football people know what they're doing!

It's not just the above, it's their pure understanding of midfield control. Retention; metronomic play; when to kill the game; when to energise it; when to make the opposition run; when to turn the screw. It's a level of nuance few midfields in the world have had during Modric and Kroos' run together. Add assists and goals on top, but by no means is it what makes them special or hard to replace, although it obviously heightens the point.

Well yes but I was specifically speaking about a midfield of Camavinga, Tchouameni and Valverde.

Modric was never really about assists anyway. During his best period, his stats were ridiculously low. But boy could he set the pace of the whole game by himself, what a fantastic player he was.

Well seems Real Madrid doesn't really care about what players dream of after all considering Tchouameni reportedly "dreams of Liverpool" and yet, to Real he goes
