Are you implying that Pirlo wasn't truly world class?

I gey your point re Fachetti and Park but showing Messi running past him a few times does little to illustrate it imo.

Pirlo is a one pace player. He never ever sprints. Park is perfect to man mark someone like him and stopping him dictating. Also, Pirlo isn’t in the top tier for his position in a historical context, Messi is and Facchetti is, it was more highlighting the ridiculousness of assuming Park could have any sort of impact on this game.

So that applies only for defenders or Iniesta isnt an elite midfielder?
You play players to their strengths, some players are very versatile some not so much. It would be pretty idiotic to pick Iniesta and play him in a team that will park the bus.

I haven’t read through the thread and what your tactics are, but if it’s attacking and is leaving Godin stretched and in 1v1 situations then yeah he is vulnerable.

Of course, i agree with that but thats not what you said in a post before :)

As for my tactics, they are pretty simple as you can only play one way at the highest level in a 442 system.....defend as a unit, press at certain point, play fairly direct football(not hoofing it of course) and use counter-attacks at every possible opportunity.

@Gio

I like Dalglish more than most for obvious reasons, but the best of which is when he scouted for rangers, the only player he uncovered was seb rosenthal.

Another great value for money signing that was - £4m for 20 games. We barely signed anyone in those days unless they had a crocked knee.

To be fair to Rozental, getting caps up front for Chile at the age of 18 when competing with the likes of Salas and Zamarano for a spot showed some real talent.

Can you imagine the hype around him nowc, so long as the YouTube videos were befitting of his proposed talents?

The glory days of Scottish football. I’ve still seen fewer strikers better than Larsson and fewer left backs than GVB, across any league.

Pirlo is certainly TRULY world class though, which was my point.

I kind of agree about Park, he probably has even less business being in a all time draft than Kane!

Not really. Park is a water carrier. He does not have any game changing things to do, and for what he's tasked with perfect even in an all time draft. Kane is spearheading the attack and the responsibilities that come with it are on a different level than anything expected from Park this game.

And welcome back to the drafts. Participate in the next one!

Haven't really kept up with the drafting aspect of this one but there must be some better options than Park surely? Players that work similarly hard but offer more quality?

Depends on how you judge these things too I suppose.

I don't have time to participate man but will always click a draft match thread when i see it! Some great drafts and match ups recently.

The guy outscored Messi and Ronaldo in a calendar year, has 2 PL golden boots and is on course for a 3rd, maybe your dislking for him is causing you to underrate him? Id be overrating him if he were up against GOAT defenders but hes not. they are modern, currently active and both would struggle against Kane.

Naw
Its clear with the Neymar discussion I just fall on the stricter career requirements to enter historical all-time consideration than some people.

Crappy and Arbi are spot on regarding Kane being influential in this game given he's not facing elite defenders.

Having said that, that peak Godin under strict defensive assignments would be able contain Harry, but even that came in circumstances where the entire team spent whole games cutting off any service whatsoever. By himself he could do a good job for most of the game but Kane doesn't need many chances to score.

I would not bet on current Kane to score against peak Godin at Atletico myself.
Kane's stats are a little inflated by playing against the weakest generation of PL defenses both in individual skill level (no CBs on the level of Terry, Ferdinand, Campbell, Adams, Carvalho, Vidic, even Carragher and Ledley King are probably as good or better than any current PL CB) and some systems just not being great defensively compared to 10-15 years ago (like Wenger's current vs. Wenger 2004, 98 or Benitez Liverpool vs Klopp Liverpool).

Godin’s success was part in due to the system and the supporting cast. His CB partner in this instance wouldn’t work in that athletico system and doesn’t compliment Godín at all.

Any striker in any era can only score against what’s put in front of them, and every single time spurs play anyone, he’s the shortest odds for first goalscorer for a reason.

Same can be said of Kane though as I mentioned. He benefits from the weakest generation of PL defenses and plays in a league that suited to his strengths and weaknesses.

We can address this again after the WC and CL next year and see if kane lives up to expectations in the summer and if he moves to a challenge like Real.

I don’t think moving to real presents a bigger challenge to be honest. Winning at spurs would be significantly more difficult and reflect better on him.

If he actually led Spurs to winning the league sure. But that needs to happen before I even consider it.

A few top 4 finishes and not even a domestic Cup is very meh for me in a historical sense. For me I need to see a good international tournament or consistent CL knock out performances to rate him in historic sense.

Initially we picked Park as we both like him and we didnt really plan to use that sub. After picking him and talking about it we realized we could use him against someone like Pirlo. After draw it made a lot of sense to sacrifice one attacking player to make a game a little bit tougher for Facchetti as personally i dont really rate Kane and Yaya(AM version) at this level so it made a lot of sense to shut down as much as possible that left flank of arbitrium + on the upside we had fresh Best on other side against much lesser player.
