Attention PS3 tards

Breakthrough!

I left it alone for a while and had another go, was on for a good five minutes then just as I went to turn it off so i could attempt recovery mode it kille ditself again so its definately a heat issue.

Givin git a clean up and replacing the thermal paste when it arrives should definately do the trick...right?

It should do, I've only ever fixed one like it but that was last year and the thing is still going strong. The only thing I've done other than that on a 360 is build my own heatsinks for the ram chips out of crushed copper pipe, but I doubt the PS3 is that shit.

Again, I think if the paste works, something has been spilled on it. In which case a clean up with fix it permanently. I wouldn't use it again until then though.

Sweet, thanks for the advice Lambs.

Another thing to note, its been off for a good hour now and has only been on for a total of id say...about 20 mins today (including blank screen time) and its fecking baking underneath! im surprised it hasnt got the YLOD yet tbh

Left it off all night and day thinking it would work after a long cool down so I went straight for recovery mode and it worked  did a full restore and everything was peachy and I was even able to turn it off with no problem aswell. Had it on for about 2 mins. Turned it back on and it so nearly did it, gave me audio but a glitchy screen.

Cant wait till the thermal paste arrives, I have a very high confidence now :)

My mate's xbox died today.

Yet he still went out and bought another. :wenger:

I told him he should have got a PS3.

Well...I did it.

Had it working and I really thought I fixed it but 10 minutes later...For....feck....sake.

I dont know what else there is I can do bar do the heat gun thing but thats only needed for the YLOD which this is not.

Right, I went in to have another look and it seems the heatsink for the RSX (I think its the RSX) is actualy never touching it! The one for the Cell seems to be doing its job as when I opend it up again some of the paste came off on it.

The problem seems to be being caused by two things:

1) The RSX chip seem to be going inwards instead of out of the casing

2) The heatsink seems to lean to one side

So my Dad is going to measure the size of the chip and will cut off a very thin piece of aluminium at work tomorrow and hopefully this will extend it just enough so that contact between the two is actualy made.

no audio or video? yeah you can use it as a paperweight...:p
