I have been offerd an 80GB for £69...the catch being that everything works but there is no audio or video.

Is there an easy soloution that will make this an absoloute bargain or is it a job for Sony?

Ta

No audio or sound eh?

I'd pass, that sounds fecking terminal.

So what does it do?

Essentialy everything but give you the visuals or audio. I have been reading some Sony forums and in some cases it just seems to be a case for a system reset and in others its the start of the YLOD.

Hard decision is this, 75% of me wants to take the gamble.

A risk is only worth taking if you able to accept the possibility of losing.

Research how much it would cost to get something like that fixed if it was the worst case. Add to the £69. Compare to how much a typical used system would cost on eBay etc.

If it might be the start of TYLOD, tell him to feck himself. Why doesn't he fix it?

Thing is, if I get it working i'd most likely put it on the bay as a working 80GB still goes for around 150 - 200 and a faulty one usualy goes between 20 - 100....I think im gonna do it...time to make the call

You're thinking in terms of the best case scenario. You have to be ready for the worst, not just with how much money you're going to spend, but how much time you're going to have to put into getting this thing fixed.

Oh I know, if I cant fix it using the methods posted then ill just put it straight back on the bay of which I could make a 30 quid loss or just about break even

Just found out hes been using AV cables rather than HDMI....god wouldnt it be brilliant if its just an issue with his AV cable

Although I've fixed a few RROD on 360's, I've only fixed one PS3. That had no sound/video, however it had been pissed on by a drunk.

I just had to clean the inners (Mboard mostly), crack the heatsink off and replace the arctic silver. Hopefully, your's might be something similar - like coke or something has been spilt other it. Otherwise if it's hardware (not the lead), it could be any number of individual or multiple problems.

Can I hijack in here with a PS3 problem

We have a reasonably new slim, and it's developed a problem where when downloading, the download can crash, which causes the PS3 to run very very slowly and not load games

I'm pretty confident I could fix next to anything on a 360. My 360's been going for over 4 years now, thanks to frequent patch up jobs and a tri-monthly dismantlement, which includes cleaning of laser and cleaning of fans (and dust in general).

Have you tried turning it off then on again?

I always wonder why I never get these problems. Maybe it's because it's on almost 24/7 because the missus always forgets to turn it off at night, and in the day it starts recording shit TV programmes.

Keep your electronics on all of the time people, they may give you a big electricity bill and destroy the environment, but they last longer.

I wouldn't dare leave half the electronics on that are made nowadays! Oh and sod you Weaste, if everyone takes your advice and leaves their 360s and Dell PCs running all the time, we'd end up with the great fire of England!
