Atalanta B.C.

They've looked a bit tired since that draw with Juve. The rest after their match with Inter will be crucial for them.

Seems like Illicic is not going to recover in time for the game with PSG, unfortunately.

I really hope they get in 2 against Inter in their last game of the season and hit the 100 goal bar... Would be a nice crown on their exceptional season..

Well thats fecked up if true

Crap, that's terrible. That goes some way into explaining why he's been off colour, recently. Hopefully Atalanta give him some further support, too. So far, they've let him go back to Slovenia, which is good.

What a team. I wouldn't be surprised to see them pull a Leicester next season if they keep hold of their players and invest in reinforcements. Juventus look on their way down.

I really like Atalanta. This is only the third game where I see them playing but still. Really going for it. No nonsense and quick passing. Hope they can keep that going.
Don‘t see their players standing around like ours do it way to often in my opinion.

You seem a big fan; who are the players to watch?
If you want my suggestions, Papu Gomez and Duvan Zapata are fun to watch. Gosens is a good attacking left wing back, and Ruslan Malinovskyi has one of the most powerful right foots in football.

Well i like Gomez hes had an impressive season also Pasalic and Zapata :)

Thank you! I'd love to see them stay together for at least another few seasons. Sadly that doesn't often happen with smaller teams :(

Edit: Just looked up some names; ages are 26, 27, 29 and 32 - that could work in their favour for staying together, I'd assumed they'd done a Monaco with young players bursting through. Their manager deserves serious credit

Well if you can envisage it then it can't be considered 'doing a Leicester'. :p

Would be incredible if they could manage it though.

He's having the sort of impact that Sarri had with Napoli. He's getting players who weren't so well regarded to play really, really well together. Some of these players showed some promise a few years back (Duvan Zapata and Papu Gomez), but for whatever reason, they weren't able to kick on.[/QUOTE]

papu and ilicic(sigh) have had genuine a ballon d'or worthy season

Duvan is awesome. Muriel is a fantastic game-breaker off the bench and Malinovski's shot is football porn

The rest is all Gasperini

Someone posted on GoT that in 17-18 they and Lyon were in our EL group. I remember they destroyed us 3-0 and 5-1 (We didn't think it would be an easy game but definitely thought we had a chance). Now both of those clubs are in the CL QF and we are languishing in 12th place in the PL.

Heartbreaking for them. I hope they sustain their play for next season, they're a good team to watch.

Their defence isn't going to take them places. Hard to see a Mourinho Porto or Bentiez Liverpool even if they do qualify.

Serie A finishing in August cost them. Just didn't have the energy to play their game for the full 90, and it cost them in the end against a better side

Ilicic's struggle with depression depriving them of their best player post-covid was also a big hit

What? Really??

That's such a shame.

If they had their fitness levels from even 5-6 matches ago, they go through here comfortably.

That being said, this was a great experience for them, and something to certainly build upon. Need to do some investing in the squad, add a bit more quality defensively, and some more depth and keep pushing forward. A few years of champions league football could completely change the financial reality for a team like Atalanta.

To think clubs like Chelsea complain about their quality of defenders, those guys spent the whole game being outmuscled by the bulky frame of Neymar. Must say Zapata was hopeless. Literally got nothing out of Silva and Kimpembe despite being twice their size.

Why weren't PSG knackered?
They were chasing the game. Also they weren't exactly burning the pitch. It's just that slower pace and less intensity massively boost superior technical quality and in that regard there is no contest between these teams

Not buying it. Their last game was 12 days ago. Almost 2 weeks of rest.

No more fuel in the tank, you know, the last gig of a decathlon... are you not tired? Tiredness is pretty damning if opponents are technically better. Not an excuse, though, just most times things do not happen, and not because of magic.

They'll never win anything playing with that style though.
It's good to watch, but they carry on playing the same way.
At some point there has to be a plan B, and alas, I don't think they have one.
