At this stage would you be satisfied with another domestic cup, a 7th place finish and 62 points?

Domestic cup must ensure qualification to Europa. Otherwise, what's the point?

With De Ligt, Mazra, Yoro, Ugarte and Garnacho playing regularly, this might still be possible.

Point being? We should be competing with them, they were worse than us last season. I don't accept that we can't get top four just because Chelsea have improved. It used to be 4 or 5 teams fight for the top four places in the main, now there could easily be 6 or 7. Three are pretty nailed on as they are way ahead at the moment.

So that leaves three or four other teams with realistic aspirations. Given the size of our club and the money we spend, it can't be a case of saying, 'oh it's a bit of a stretch for us' just because a number of other teams are decent.

We need to be up there competing with them. As it is under this manager, we're being destroyed by them.
They finished above us last season, and they have improved. It is unlikely we will finish above them.

Irrespective of our satisfaction the club simply can't afford staying out of CL qualification

Funny how football works because I feel a proper hypocrite for saying no. Last season the whole "who had a better season Arsenal or Man Utd". I'd imagine the majority said us, including me, yet now we want Arsenals season

But 100% no, he has rode that horse. Cup wins should come with a decent league showing at the minimum.
I don't know how anyone who said that could have believed it.

Yes, it's great to win trophies, but the league is really the benchmark of where you are as a team. You play the same teams as everyone else home and away so there's no 'easy run' or significant reward for a lucky result.

Our league performance was shocking last season and the performances largely dire, and that form seems to be continuing this year.

Noone in their right mind can look at a team who's finished 2nd the last couple of seasons (and play a standard of football that is light years ahead of what United are currently serving up) and say we had a better season just because we won a cup.

That's just not a legitimate claim.

I forgot they ended up ahead of us, that's even worse given how bad they were.

In keeping with the theme of the thread, should we be satisfied with that, is that acceptable?

Honestly don't care where we finish (within reason). I just want to see clear, actionable, progress. Controlling games, winning the vast majority against opposition we should be battering and going from there.

If we manage that, the league position will be tolerable - the table rarely lies. We are SO far from that it's actually painful.

Absolutely staggering as to how far this club’s standards have fallen.

Haha..
We need to start winning..
To the Op, Did you see the stats in the last 30 games ? We have around 40 points ..
I don't know how ETH survived the summer

Absolutely not. I have been ultra-consistent in my belief that it's performance, more than results, that matter for EtH.

I said that when I was supporting him (during his first season) and I am consistent in holding the same belief now that I actively want him sacked.

If the question is, 'would I be happy as a fan, taking the manager out of the equation?'....then again, no....I'd be happy on the day we won the cup...like when we won the FA Cup last season, but it's still a poor season overall that puts us further from our ultimate ambitions of competing at the top of the Premier League and Champions League

If we dont qualify for the Champions League we are going to be in trouble with UEFA and/or the Premier League over our PSR and FFP situation so it is absoutely imperative that we either get top 4 or win the Europa League.

No idea. Depends on what way you mean it, you could say top 2 are the only positions acceptable for a club our size. With our current team? No idea until we get another manager. With Hag? Top 20.

Winning the league was unrealistic 3 years ago. Top 4 is our level they said

4th is now unrealistic, and 7th is our level they now say.

A couple more years of this and 7th will be unrealistic.

This.

Anything short of Europa League win and at least 5th place in EPL would be unacceptable

Considering how we started the season both of these goals are extremely unlikely

Agree, that was my minimum hope and expectation when he was given another chance this season.

We've beaten a league one team and did alright against Southampton after really struggling in the first 30 against them.

Everything else has been pretty dreadful, ultimately no change to last seasons dour performances. I don't want to recalibrate my expectations until a new manager comes in because we're going nowhere under this guy.

Of course not, it was football rivalry. Try not to take it too literally.

Yeh I'm not a fan of domestic cups at all, they are obviously a nice bonus on top of a league or CL challenge, but a mediocre league campaign+ a domestic cup just doesn't mean anything to me
