At this stage would you be satisfied with another domestic cup, a 7th place finish and 62 points?

Absolutely not. It should be 4th minimum and any domestic cups a bonus.

7th? 7th?

May as well pack it in forever and sell off Old Trafford.

Why are our fans so eager to throw away salvageable seasons time and time again?

I just want us to be a coherent team with solid patterns of play that steadily improves from week to week. Process before throphies. We are so far behind at the moment.

If it's the Europa, maybe but the manager will have to go still

How do you figure that?

Squad members' performances in the 20/21 and 22/23 seasons, or at other clubs prior to joining United. Players don't suddenly forget how to play football overnight. When every one of our current players have looked good in our better seasons or at other clubs before they came here, and now everyone looks shit, don't you think it's the tactical setup and environment that's not letting them perform to their level? See Chelsea 22/23 and 23/24 as well. They also had a better squad than what the league table shows in those 2 campaigns.

Keep in mind that another FA or League Cup will win over a significant portion of the fan base again regardless of how we play in general or where we finish in the league.

Despite enjoying the FA Cup win I wasn't particularly pleased with this last season, so two seasons in a row would be unacceptable.

We spend more than Real Madrid most seasons but sections of the fanbase have the expections of Real Betis.

£700M clearly doesn't get you much these days. 7th in the Premier League.

No.

Absolutely not.

I'm not someone that views the cups as unimportant (that's a loser mentality for clubs who can't win trophies or are knocked out after choosing to play the reserves).

However, it's far more important to me that Ten Hag is out of the club as soon as possible over considering what would be 'acceptable'.

I can't take watching us being absolutely blown of the park by the other top 6 clubs anymore, it's genuinely making me sad as well as angry.

If we were to get top four and win the Europa it would mean he's drastically turned a corner and is beating quality teams, that's the only thing that is acceptable after the time and money he's had.

That's not going to happen, nothing else is acceptable. Get him the feck out yesterday.

Why not? Once we won a FA or Carabao Cup we can boast again that we have more successful season than Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool given that most likely City will walk the league again.

Mindful that we still have tougher tests to come, I am already starting to recalibrate my expectations for the season.

At this stage if you offered me another domestic cup and 7th place with circa 62 points, I would actually bite your hand off. Whilst that would only be two points more than we won last season, at this stage any progress is surely be better than nothing.

Thoughts?

If we finish 7th, the season after finishing 8th I think another cup would be the opposite of encouraging - it would merely serve to underline how feckless we've been in the Premier League. What sort of team wins two cups while being that bad in the Prem? Not the sort of team I want.

That boast would be pure BS. And if the club actually believes that is true, we'd be in big, big trouble. PL performance is and remains what basically defines how good a team you are.

I'd take playing good football and competing against our biggest rivals in the league any day over any domestic or EL trophy. So definitely a big NO!

I will welcome any trophy as long as the foundation is in place and it looks like we're on a right track, but the trophies we won last season was a huge net negative for us in the sense that we still have a manager that has the club in free fall.

I think 4th is asking a bit much.
Not really, it is now because we've only won two league games out of 6. If Villa can get top four then we definitely can with a decent manager.

It's not to say it should be a definite, as there are quite a few teams potentially able to achieve it, but we should definitely be competing for it with a good chance of making that fourth spot, not miles off the pace with the season just under way.

If ETH stays I can’t get getting finishing in European places this season.

Funny how football works because I feel a proper hypocrite for saying no. Last season the whole "who had a better season Arsenal or Man Utd". I'd imagine the majority said us, including me, yet now we want Arsenals season

But 100% no, he has rode that horse. Cup wins should come with a decent league showing at the minimum.

With this squad CL qualification or a tight 5th should be bare minimum, cups are a bonus but league position is king..... TBH playing well against decent opposition would be a start

You'd see last season people are mocking Arsenal for finishing 2nd with no trophies and claiming FA cup as the holy grail because it's written in history

Football fans are as hypocrite as it is

Yes but this season Chelsea are looking stronger than Villa.

My expectation start of the season was to properly challenge for the Europa League. This has not changed, although it will likely need to happen under a different manager.

4th is long gone. We will be 9 points behind Chelsea and Villa after next weekend. You dont turn around a mess like this during a season. So id be more than happy with 62 points and an FA cup.

I mean I’d be surprised if ten hag managed that, I’d take it if I knew we were keeping him

We should sack him and go for top four though, we’ve got a decent squad and a good manager should be able to challenge

No

Another season without CL football would absolutely cripple us. We need top 4 more than anything

Yeah, no one has ever turned round a 6 point deficit, 6 games into the season. Come on, man.

I would not be happy with 7th and 62pts, for the record.

Today is only 1st Oct and we all already know that realistically Top 4 is gone with the way we are playing. This is how far we have fallen. Standards have now been worse than under Woodward. Ineos is all talk only in term of football.

It's extremely sad to say, with the way we are playing now, I will bite your hands off with 7th and a cup.

I'd be happy enough with that.

We can always watch the other teams when we want to see good football... and then there's Man Utd, for everything else.

Point being? We should be competing with them, they were worse than us last season. I don't accept that we can't get top four just because Chelsea have improved. It used to be 4 or 5 teams fight for the top four places in the main, now there could easily be 6 or 7. Three are pretty nailed on as they are way ahead at the moment.

So that leaves three or four other teams with realistic aspirations. Given the size of our club and the money we spend, it can't be a case of saying, 'oh it's a bit of a stretch for us' just because a number of other teams are decent.

We need to be up there competing with them. As it is under this manager, we're being destroyed by them.

No. I would not be satisfied with anything other than a automatic Champions League spot.
